Why is the PS3 a fail?

Im not someone that will put that really old "graphics or gameplay" shenanigans in the loop, but to be honest, I would probably enjoy the Wii's games must more if it had more power. Twilight Princess was just wonderful, and its a GC game, and I kind of wonder what the Zelda Wii exclusive will look like

My roommate is a total Zelda fantool and thinks TP is a simplistic game. Mostly because its AI is lollable.

Theo amuses me so much, Antor XD

well, in every game the AI is pretty 'lolable' lol, but the games are still pretty awesome, regardless of that fact.

Hell I already bowed out of the argument. I've pretty much said everything I care to say, and fully realise at this point all I'd be doing is repeating myself.

So fuck it, lol.

I love all of you, keep up the good work. XD

Yeah. :/ It's actually sadly why I don't like them as much now. It was cool back when I was six, but now I like challenging things. I can totally respect if someone likes the game, though. Partially as to why I don't really like Nintendo's current strategy with the Wii is because the hardware just isn't capable of some really complex things.

However, I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to multiplayer games that don't have any real need for an AI challenge, the Wii has potential to be awesome. Warioware, although a stupidly simplistic game, is fun with a group of people, and when I can play Mario Party I'm hoping the same will come from that too.

Just to add some rocket fuel to the fire...

Extrapolated NA sales figures based on NA NPD numbers through March 2007:

NPDmar2007.png

And the March NPD sales figures:

HW Sales
Nintendo DS 508K
PlayStation 2 280K
Wii 259K
Xbox 360 199K
PlayStation Portable 180K
Game Boy Advance 148K
PlayStation 3 130K
GameCube 22K
Xbox n/a

PS3 outsold by GBA two months in a row. <.< Poor Wii still supply constrained...

And DS is still printing money for Nintendo. O_O;

And you know what?

This was a month before D&P's release. <.<~

We already know that the Wii will more than likely outsell the PS3 for quite a while. The price alone practically is enough reason behind that logic. However, extrapolation of data is always a bad thing to do.

That's not really extrapolated, it's directly based on known NPD sales figures and ends with the last known official numbers.

lol, that's what extrapolation is. The chart even says "extrapolated." It's a decent idea of what may happen if current trends continue, but it's not necessarily true that they will. That's why extrapolation, for the most part, is just an educated prediction based on current (read: not future) trends.

EDIT: And this is not a PS3 defense. Who knows, the Wii might get even bigger in sales.

You should go take a look at sales charts back during PS1 :P that was doing horribly for awhile until what.. a year and half to two years later? Something like that. PS2 never really became awesome in games until about the same time. In fact.. I've never seen a system have so many awesome games until it was about a year or so later. It seems the same this time around too. One or two might be cool but when it really starts having tons of fun stuff for it comes a year or so later

Though, I still don't get why so many don't seem to understand this now.. and at this point, I don't care.. think what you want, I'll just watch and see more fun stuff come out for all the systems :P

PS1 wasn't also the most expensive console and wasn't expected to do well right out of the gates at all.

EDIT: Oh, and your argument sounds a whole lot like, "I'm not racist; I just hate black people."

Really now? I have no problem with the PS3 except the lack of games, its loss of exclusives, and its claim to be motion sensing. I even said many pages back I plan on buying one when it actually becomes worth it. Right now it isn't, and it isn't getting any closer to being worth it.

You really did miss the point on that one. It senses motion in some way, except it doesn't sense motion. That's what you're saying. It's self-contradictory, just like saying you're not racist but you hate black people. More important people and companies in the industry call it motion sensing, and I'm just going to place their word, well, way the hell over yours. Internet junkie or Sony and IGN? Honestly, who would you believe? Me or Kotaku? It's pretty cut and dry.

I find this ironic, because you didn't seem to think those "more important people and companies in the industry" were valid sources when they were saying you were wrong before. It must be nice to selectively accept the sources based on if they're agreeing with you or not at the time.

In fact, you told me to stop talking when I referred to such sources, so why don't you follow your own advice?

You can hate blacks and not be racist. Seems people have forgotten the meaning of racism. Racism is believing your race is superior over another, or one race is inferior to others. It's not the same as hating. You can say you hate blacks because of their culture, and that isn't racism. But if you believe your culture is better, that is racism.

There is a difference between motion sensing and tilt sensing, because tilt doesn't detect the actual motion, but compares how level the controller is compared to a neutral state. Where as with motion sensing, there is no set absolute-neutral state, and detections are made based on how it moves, rather than how it's held.

No, that's not what I said. In fact, I totally stopped talking to you because once I deem someone not worthy of my time I completely stop responding to them (for the most part - you obviously caught me at a time where I'm doing jack shit). If perhaps you would have used "sources" after I first called you out on it instead of talking out of your ass maybe I would go back and read whatever you said. You're not a part of the industry AT ALL as a producer, developer, or marketer, yet you still keep going on and on about your opinion that really doesn't matter unless you are a producer, developer, or marketer. Call it immaturity if you want to, but I honestly don't care. Ignoring people like you makes my life a lot easier and saves me a lot of unneeded stress.

As of right now, I am a student in Game Design and Development. Not too far from now I'll probably be in Austin, Texas (there are other locations, but this is definitely the most probable) working for a company as more than likely a programmer (there's always the narrow chance I might nab a Design job). And it's better me than some dipshit who is a blatantly flamboyant Nintendo fantool.

All right, you're getting in to technical bullshit that honestly doesn't matter. It senses motion therefore it has motion sensing. End of fucking debate unless you're retarded. Hating black people is a form of racial prejudice, which is, last time I checked, racism.

A dictionary said:
rac·ism –noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.

Now quit being a dumbass. Thanks.

Again, you make blatant assumptions about who I am. You seem to think that you're the only one who is taking a degree and planning on entering the gaming industry, but you're not. I happen to be planning the exact same thing(entering the game development industry after graduation), several of my friends have already graduated with game designing degrees, they happen to agree with me.

Sorry that I need to actually do your research for you, you're obviously not much of a student of game design if you don't have any idea what developers are actually saying. Since you apparently don't bother to read anything that doesn't praise the PS3, here's a few of the interviews.

Interview with a developer from EA about how great the wii controls work with the new scarface

Interview with the EA developers for a harry potter game with how great the wiimote is

A company under microsoft wants to make games for the wii

The head developer of Gears of War thinks Wii Sports is one of the best games of the year

This article practically does my job for me, it's chock full of the opinions of game developers. A lot are anonymous to avoid damaging their company, but there's more than enough signed quotes to prove my point. A few want the PS3, but that's a small portion and their justification is solely based on the specs of the console since this article came out a few days before both launches.
Artcile about a survey of the gaming professionals and which console(PS3/Wii) they prefer

I found these in about 10 minutes on Google(I wanted the ones outside of Nintendo), since I didn't think I'd have to save every article I read, but they've been going on since the Wiimote was first shown. Little did I know that there would be people out there who don't even read them but still act like they know everything.

It doesn't sense motion, it senses tilt. It doesn't actually know how fast you're moving the controller without extrapolating based on rate of change of tilt. It doesn't detect motion itself. If the controller were held perfectly level and moved around, the console wouldn't know the difference.

Just a quick question to kill my curiousirty bug but what exactly makes a Sony "fantool" information more viable than say, a Nintendo "fantool"?

Big deal you're in school and all for game design, if that's a fact, you're not "there" or any more equipped to having a better say-so than anyone yet or possibly ever. Here's a tip, most bands don't "make it". Same goes for game industry hopefuls.

Does a Level detect motion?
gpsmon_level.jpg

Yes or no.

Thats all a tilt sensor is. If you hold both a level and a tilt sensor steady, in their neutral positions, and spin it in a circle, it isn't going to respond.

I guess spin is a bad word, move it in a circle would be better. As in, move around with it in an O shaped path, not spin it on one fixed spot, without rotating the controller, so that it's constantly pointing in the same direction.

Motion sensing would pick up that movement, where as a tilt sensor wouldn't.

I'm going to have to disagree with Tag though, a tilt sensor can detect how fast the controller has moved in it's detectable range.

An easy example of both in action. Planets spinning on their axis is tilt sensing. Planets rotating around a larger body(sun) is motion sensing. Motion sensors can do everything a tilt sensor can, but more.
