Why is this server so anti-Dragoon?

So, basically, my lvling all the way to 55 on DRG/SAM was a wasted effort, and I should abandon all I've done since I've started? this is giving me just reason to quit this game overall, because anything I try to do with DRG, someone thwarts. nobody cares about whethre or not yer a good player when yer seeking, everyone prefers, DRKs, not DRGs, or some other DD. It's rediculous. I wanted to be a DRG since I was but a small BLM. Well, whatever, if none of you have seen me, dno't anymore, you know why.

You really didn't read what everyone posted did you? Suggestions were made to sub /WAR with your DRG and this should help with invites. A lot of these posts above are positive but also try to explain why you're not getting invites. There are few misfit classes out there that kick ass but are usually passed over for other jobs due to lack of education (rolls in pts, what the class is actually capable of doing) and shit players. I play SMN and have the same problem, you just have to buckle down and do your best. Buy the best gear you can wear and put it in your search comment, learn your job and pick the best subjob that can maximize your abilities.

Nobody here has really said DRG suck...they just basically say most DRGs suck and they tend to whine too much. Make yourself stand out in the DRG crowd full of gill sellers and idiots and you'll see more invites flow in.

If this truly was the job you wanted to play, you'd stick with it and eventually it gets better. You may even want to look into setting up a
static.

I have to say that I wont invite a DRG that doens't sub WAR, same with DRK, MNK and SAM. By having provoke you open up the doors to work with a THFs. It sooo hard to land a proper SAnTA without a back up voke. The other day I joined a PT with a DRG/THF, he made it work, but he was really really good at what he did, his timing was perfect, and it worked. I agree with the "noobie" comment about DRGs, not saying you are. I also think you're over reacting, wanting to quit....no no, just have different subs leveled....and put that in your search comment, see what other jobs are in your PT and pick your sub from there. And remember everyone has trouble getting a PT sometime, except BRDs....bastards....lol

Its not their abilities which are wrong. Like deci stated they have a huge problem in their ws. And further more they are competing with the worst. Rangers.

Exactly, rangers and drg has almost identical WS elements on them. On average the dragoon cannot begin to compete with rangers nor any other melees. And further more it was foolish to not add a Transfiction (Was it like this? Penetration element, the one you start to start a distortion skill chain) in penta thrust, one of their most damaging ws. Penta thrust itself doesn't go well on any sort of skill chain on mobs we fight frequently.

Dragoon's damage on average is pretty high, and added to the wyvern's damage it can surpass the drk's damage. But when ever it comes to WS potential, the dragoons are no match. They cannot end the skill chain doing high damage with thief sub. This is where they lack. When the monk, rangers, darks doing 1200~1500 damage with 1200~1500 light skill chain damage, the dragoon are left behind. Yes impulse drive, skewer, and other ws are very weak compared to the other 2 handers. Upping the damage may shed the light for the job.

I still find it funny the first 75 on our server was a Dragoon...

True but back then DRG were the shit.

Should probably point something out here for all the DRGs stuck at level 50. Whatever you do, under *any* circumstances, do not sub THF that level. Level WAR or SAM if you have to, but a DRG50/THF is usually seen as a gilseller, and thus totally ignored when looking for groups. (Because some gilsellers get it in their heads that they want level 55)

And... yea, unless you've got some really good reason... sub WAR. If you haven't tried it yet, you'll be amazed at the difference it makes. I didn't sub WAR when I started MNK, and really didn't want to have to sub it, but when I tried it I never looked back. I've heard the same from just about every other melee, too. Heck, even the bane-of-all-existance from Brady Games says that the only bad thing about WAR is that it's even better as a sub than a main job. Not that I belive that, but...

*ack, end of period, maybe I'll be able to post later*

DRG/THF with a search comment that seems legit? Hmm or a rank higher than 1? It's not hard to tell a gilseller just from the name and/or rank + search comment (if there is one). Other signs are gimp or wierd sub, incomprehension of simple english, or attempts to communicate in english, but poorly, unless by some very wierd and rare chance the person in question is a JP trying his hardest to pretend to be NA... which I highly doubt would ever be the case.

There's this lvl 40'ish thf (Llill or something) who somehow keeps getting into parties... he's got a lvl 10 NIN sub, which is the first obvious sign something is wrong with this guy, his gear sucks, he's rank 1, in battle he pulls whether or not you are ready (yeah I had the luck of partying with this shmuck), he doesn't understand anything you say, doesn't SC, stands to the side when he uses sneak/trick (there's no one to trick onto), uses Viper Bite nude (as in without SATA at all) and at random, and so on. How this dude continues to get invites or start parties I DONT KNOW, but the party I was in had no frickin clue he was a gilseller character until I enlightened them on the obvious. all while I'm explaining this he keeps doing his thing, not even realizing we were talking about him.

So yeah stop getting this shmuck experience, if you happen to see the guy, not to make this a flamerant or anything. Just saying, a gilseller is so obvious it hurts.

another possiblity is that from what I have seen dragoon seems to be very popu;ar you can not run through jueno without running into a dozen dragoons. sheer numbers of surplus in any job means more compatition. I have had dragoons in mystatic do great so I am susre teh job works well but if there are a ton of dragoons on teh server its gonna be harder to get an invite .

just my 2 gil on the matter

Why do people hate playing WAR, anyhows? Is it the responsibility they can't handle? I always enjoyed being a tank and damage dealer, and took pride in being able to hold hate and participate in skill chains. Makes the battles alot funner when you aren't just auto-attacking and smacking a WS macro every once in a while.

I use DRG for my weekly static. I must say I am impressed with the abilities and damage that DRG is capable of. I have parser results from the last party. Keep in mind that this is levels 29-31 with excellent gear (THANKS JAG!).

Parser Results

The members are Alanon (DRK), Kiere (WHM), Jender (BLM), Jag (BRD), Squirrelin (PLD) and myself (DRG).

Please ignore the entries for Parn, Blastermage, Amora, Jotten, Delphina and Tribune. They were jackasses in a party next to us... and are lucky they are being spared an honorable mention in the FLAMEBOARD! Their stats showed up because I forgot to set chat filters. :?

*sigh* I play a DRG/THF because...well.....SA+Double Thrust = very very nice damage. I've impressed quite a few parties with damage well over 400 at lvl 35. I really don't plan on changing my sub any time soon, but if it gets to that point....*sigh* Dragoons + wyvern damage is very good, and i impressed a great many people being able to solo an EM at my level when subbing rdm for healing breath. I sat in Jeuno for 3 hours and got no invite, besides an invite from a gilseller, from which i promptly dropped that party like a bad habit. I'm just afraid i'll not be able to fulfill my pact to a great friend to get DRG to 75, with full AF. Yes there are bad dragoons out there, but there are also good ones, so you shouldn't shun a dragoon based on the fact that they *might* be bad. I mean....the same could be said for any job, bad SAM's, bad DRK's....ya never know.

C'mon, show some DRG love XD

Personally, I hate WAR for the simple reason, it doesn't appeal to me, tanking is not something I like. I'll heal, I'll debuff/nuke, I'll be a DD, but I hate tanking. This is mostly because every party I've tanked for, I've died endlessly until I left. At least as a DD, I can do dmg, and not die as often. But, I have no other choice, it seems, but to lvl WAR...I'm dreading it severely.

I see it as even though many gilsellers are DRGs, whenever I'm seeking, it's always either, me the only DRG seeking, or one other, which is rare. I understand WAR gives some good stats and what not, and being Elvaan attributes to that, but, I like having "Store TP" and <Third Eye>. And most party's I've been in where a THF was present, I've been able to successfully keep hate using my Jump abilities. the only times I've noticed I couldn't keep the hate was nuke crazy blms.

True be it that Penta Thrust isn't good for SCs, but Double Thrust is, and I'm willing to use ANY of my WSes, whether it be Penta Thrust or Vorpal Thrust or not. I'll do whatever i need too as DRG/SAM to do my job efficiently. I'm always open to advice, I've taken advice and used it. Yes, there is exceptions to dicks who think they're better, but yea, that happens. .

Well, if any of you need a DRG, and wish to test my skills, /tell me. I'm up for any challenge, I may not always do it correctly, but I try to be the best my Elvaan blood can produce.

Thanks

as a war, you just have to be ready to do whatever the PT needs. i've even had a war/nin be main tank at lv 49.
as for subbing sam, it may be nice, but before 60, it's kind of a waste. why give up double attack, berserk, attack bonus for 1 tp per hit extra and 1 dodge physical attack?
even after 60, i wouldn't be so sure to /sub sam. /war is still useful to be first provoke for thief.

As a 58 thief, I can say dragoon is one of my absolute favorite DD partners, them and rangers. Since I'm a mainly a burst damage job, I love having their DoT around, and this means /war sub.

Dragoon fits into SCs extermely well with thief, and grouping with thief means /war sub, unless you have a ninja tank and there is a 3rd DD with /war. Dragoon+thief was just meant to be since their creation, thf+drg and thf+rng make awsome SC partners from 3 to 75.

Also that acc up trait makes a real noticable impact. I partied with a drk with snipers and the royal neck collar(4acc), he left and got replaced by a dragoon with dex+3 rings and spike necklance(both had lifebelt too of course). The dragoon absolutely owned the darkknight in tp gain, dark was hume, drg was elvaan, and both were 57. And with the exception of soul eater, they hit around the same damage numbers. Of course if the dragoon had that same acc+ he would've just completely destroyed everything, but 4-5k per hour, who's complaining? All in all, I absolutely love grouping with drgoons, having to SATA midbattle off the drg midbattle isn't a worry either if it must be done.

About drg/thf and a better WS, there are faults in the long run to this.

1. Grouping with thf(A job drg fits with very well) becomes far more of an annoyance for both members and the tank.

2. Less DoT with drg/thf, 100-200 more points on a WS isn't going to overcome 3 minute berserk, double attack, after 60/30 attack up, and at 70/35 warcry. Although /thief works rather well on some DD, drg really isn't one of them when compared to /war, their WSs aren't their main strength, it's DoT between them and their wyvren, and nothing enhances DoT more than /war.

3. Lastly those emergency extras such as provoking an add/link(hopefully asleep) or if the main tank died from some freak accident. Along with that goes defender, not really importent, but it's still there for a rough time.

Lastly drg/sam, I honestly would not invite one if all i cared about was getting as much xp per hour as possible. And after 50, this is what I care about with such high tnls, and it's going to get much worse too. Hard time setting up for SATA, less DoT, overall little impact. I can think of one time drg/sam would be useful possiblely. In a ninja tank party with 3 melee damage dealers, you could serve as a link to set up a SC for both guys if it can be done. But when you're in a normal setup as one of 2 melee DD, you want more DoT to be the most valuable you can be to a party.

And you may even gain tp faster with /war sub than sam sub pre 60, because of double attack...Well it would be close anyway. But you're just SC openers most of the time, what good is a few more tp going to be when berserk would enhance it far more?

Thanks Armi!! :D

Hm...
huh?
Elei sexy.... :p
Please note at 55.. SJ Sam is not good. You only have Third Eye and TP Bonus which is quite useless.
I have tried both SJ SAM and also WAR at lvl 75 and both have it's pro and cons.
SJ sam. I always manage to get 100% TP quickly. (w00t, i beat my thf friend)
SJ war. Berserk, warcry, double attack, provoke... ooh baby

My only real problem against DRG is whenever I farmed (Wether it was Buburimu, Maze, Konschtat, even Onzozo or Nest..), I tend to grab more than one monster (perhaps...3, or 4, since I used Earth Crusher)...and even if there's numerous of the same monsters happily minding themselves in the area, almost every time, a DRG will prance up, jump on every single one, thus killing em and getting the drops...then they'll bite my head off for "stealing their mobs" (/...)

But as for parties....I found DRG relatively useful in most cases, they seem to do rather well vs. Robber Crabs/Greatclaw..as to an eirlier poster, why the HELL would a DRG sub whm to heal themself? =P if the parties doing their job the healer should heal the DRG rightoff and the tank should be keeping the hate off the DRG and others for a mostpart O-o

WHM sub is only for healing breath- it's a free Curaga for the party every time you use your WS. Not ideal in most partys, which have a WHM to handle healing, but it can have its uses.

Eleibfrid = teh sexi purple DRG r0ck0rz!!!1111 ^_~

I need to get my DRG job....
