why not just ask nicely before making accusations?

Tonight, I decided to go down to Norg to trade in some rusty subligars and rusty leggings. But before I left Khazam I thought I would run out and bust up a few smithys for grins & to see if they would drop some gobbie armor, and maybe help out some low-levels by thinning the gobbie herd.

So I go out there and kill 3 or 4 smithys, and then I see someone run past with a smithy on thier tail. I don't know whether they are xp'ing off them or not (some people do, though I don't personally consider it the best idea), so I follow this person. The goblin isn't claimed, so I figure it is probably aggro. We were close to the zone, so I figured I'd just follow and help if I could.

So I see a party grab the gobbie & I watch. Then they call for help, and I run over, Blizzard II it for 300-something and critical it with my sword for 130 and it dies shortly thereafter.

I start seeing a lot of /bow to a level 27 THF, and not a single "thanks" or what-have-you to me. No matter, I'm not there to show off, I just thought I could help out. Then the 27THF (Shadowraven) says in say mode something about "damn high-levels won't leave us alone, stealing our targets" and I think wtf???

So I say "sorry, it wasn't my intention to steal anyone's target. If you want me to leave just say so" and I get in reply "said"

I go back in to Khazam, but I send a tell to Shadowraven saying "would you have preferred I ignore the help call and just let the party die?" and s/he replies "we don't need you killing our mandies, it's hard enough to pull here without you stealing our targets"

Well now I'm once again being accused of stealing targets, and I find out that they are xp'ing off mandies, not the gobbies. I'm a little low on blood-sugar and so I'm crabby. I could have been more politic, but I sent back:

"I WASN'T KILLING ANY MANDYS, I WAS TRYING TO HELP YOU OUT KILLING F'ING GOBS"
"I don't kill mandies out there b/c I know people are xp'ing off them"

and the reply is:
"I saw you out there killing mandies, so just keep your shit"

and I reply:
"I was out there about 10 minutes and all I killed was 4 gobs, so f-off"

and I get back:
"watch your language"

then:
"maybe it was another rdm"

Which made me think...yes, there was another person in RDM AF gear out there that might have been killing mandies. Ferque (58RDM) was out there with his flag up & was killing stuff--I didn't look to see what he was killing. I was in anon mode with my hat on, Ferque was not in anon mode and since he's level 58, did not have the AF hat on. So I said: "maybe ferque or someone" and left it at that and got nothing in reply. No "sorry I accused you," nothing. I just went on to Norg and did what I initially went to do.

I could have been more polite, but what bothered me about this was:
1) there was another high-level RDM out there that may have been killing stuff that low-levels are xp'ing off of. Please don't do that, people. I will even leave the goblins alone there if I see parties xp'ing off them (though I will take links away).
2) Shadowraven saw RDM AF armor and *assumed* that I must be the person s/he saw while pulling. The this person gets all accusational on me when I'm just trying to find out what I did that made them mad.
3) "damn high-levels." I can understand some frustration, but I don't think I ever came off to high-levels that way when I was a low-level because I knew I would need to ask people for help someday.
4) The whole thing could have been avoided by doing the following:
When you are out pulling and you see the person stealing your targets, just send them a nice /tell, asking them if they would mind leaving those for your group to xp off of. That's it! I bet 9-times-out-of-10, the person didn't realize what they were doing and would stop. Hey, they might even offer to keep goblins off your back if you are NICE about it. But no, let's not /tell the person that you can *verify* is doing it...let's jump on the first person we see that *looks somewhat like* that person, who also just killed our aggro for us.

I don't know...am I out of line on thinking that this case of mistaken identity could have easily been avoided?

I don't hold too many grudges, so I didn't blist anyone involved or anything. But I will say that comments like "damn high-levels" make me want to find something else to do when I see people that say things like that shouting for help on their G1 or AF1 in 15-20 levels.

Just...please...could you actually make the effort to make sure you are accusing the right person? And how about a little effort to just try asking someone the next time you have a problem with something they are doing?

As far as I'm concerned they don't own any mandy or gob out there. Yes it is polite to ignore exp mobs. But what your doing is fair game. But yea I know you and your a good guy so it sounds like some over aggresive kids. Its cool man, good days and bad days. I killed Miser .

I get yelled at a LOT when I stand around fighting a Yhoator Mandra (no weapon, only shield, it's great for ups..), even though I pulled the Mandra from over where the Anemone pops. Unfortunately, if I try to explain this, 3/4 of the people say I'm making up monsters.
