So I may be leaving to go into the military, which would mean 12wks at least of no FFXI no loving people from Quetzalcoatl, but i was thinking people post that they have to quit, why, what could be so bad that you need to quit?

At some point people hit a point in which they are playing and aren't having fun or at least the tedious and frustrating things out weigh the good. Typically at those points in times you look back at the years invested into a game that has no real life significance other than entertainment. Some people feel guilt at this point while others just feel as though they are done.

It can be many things. Perhaps people reach an age in which they want to start focusing more time to family, find an significant other, improve there financial state, or so on.

When most people say they have to quit, unless it is financial, they really don't have to it is just a reorganization of priorities and they deem FFXI low enough on the pole to be cut out.

whe the game becomes more important that real life is when you need to quit. if you ever turn down leaving your house with friends because you have to play a video game then you need to quit

I quit a year and a half ago. I quit a bit because of money (college > me.) But, I also quit because of personal issues.

I was starting to notice that my social skills were lacking, I felt anxious around strangers and even friends and family sometimes. I realized then that maybe I was spending too much time on the internet and not enough out in the real world.

I've gotten over all that now and now realize how things have to go in order to not find myself in that position again. I really only play now when I have a few spare hours or it's late at night and I'm getting home from the bar/party and not quite ready to sleep yet.

That's just my own personal experience, and other people have their own reasons. Just thought I'd share how the game affected me awhile back.

Good luck with the military though if you decide to join.

I just feel if you cant balance real life and video games there maybe something wrong there. Ive been yelled at for year by my parents about not being "social" or playing to much, but the truth is it has never hurt my socially or in school work. I have seen people lose girlfriend or boyfriends over video game, which i kinda sad, but my curiousity was just for the reason to see if the game does get really boring at any point or is it just as much fun as you make it?

Scuili if you were that bored why start a message board?

Sculli was playing FFXI while you were still sucking on your momma's teet. I believe he started up QCDN.org back then, retired, passed admin rights to Pupusa, came back, accepted admin rights back, retired from FFXI again, and now sits with a double-barreled shotgun in his rocking chair on the porch of his house in the swamp, fending off alligators and drinking tomato sauce because FFXI just isn't his thing anymore.

amiright

If you take a moment, and think about your question, I am certain that you will come up with the correct answer to it all by yourself.

Once you do have the correct answer you will also realize that thinking about a question before posting it will quite often eliminate the need to actually post the question.

work 37hrs/week ontop of school fulltime, and family things to do... that's why :(

Not to be outdone because I love good banter but my question was relavant you tell me the difference in bordem between posting message to people like my or running around the world of quetzalcoatl, i think i would rather be bored in a video game, and my question was not irrelevant it was to find out the nature of a man who sits around with a shotgun drinking tomato sauce.

QCDN History 101

I have been playing EQ since beta 3 and have pretty much tried every MMORPG that's not one of the "play for free" ones. When FFXI came out I gave it a try. I noticed right away that there was no convinient way for players to communicate outside the game. From my EQ time I was very used to server message boards. So I made QCDN on April 3rd, 2004.

I then quit FFXI for a number of reasons, but kept QCDN going as it was being frequently used and growing. A few months later I decided that I should let QCDN go to someone who's actually playing the game and can perhaps more closely relate to game and player issues. That is how Pupusa became admin.

Pupusa later ran into all sorts of RL troubles that were affecting his ability to manage QCDN. I was still having a look at my "my old board" every now and then to see how things are going. When I looked at QCDN in October of 2005 I didn't like what I saw. Pupusa was MIA and things were not good imho. I tracked Pupusa down IRL and took back over as admin.

Sure, since this wasn't my deal anymore I could have just walked away with a 'oh well' sigh. The reason I didn't is because a lot of good has come from QCDN. Sure, we got drama! But for many of the active QCDNers, and for many more of those who just read QCDN daily but do not post, QCDN has made a positive difference in their FFXI gaming experience.

That difference is what makes it worth it to me to keep QCDN going even though I do not play the game anymore and I do not know any QCDN user personally.

I didn't quit whem I went to boot camp. I've played just about every MMO you could imagine... and the only one I never cancel my billing on is FFXI.

...people always come back...

I know some people may leave because of drama in the game sometimes that they don't want to put up with anymore.

It could also be a horrible reputation for some or people hating on them, which makes the game less fun. Some people may run out of patiences too for the tediousness and time it takes to do things in the game.

wow.. thats happened before to me...
but thats cause I was playing about 8-14hours a day of the game.. which also included me having to go to school and doing the sleep thing

but yeah.. it really messes with you...

qutting was the greatest thing ever. no more sitting at 3 hour camps not even guarenteed a claim, claiming killing and getting shitty drops, spending 8 hours a day in sky farming. if only i would have saved my gil a little longer and not gave it away, ige is buying your gil, $500 for 100mil :'(
