Why was Peregrine allowed to make a new account and post here?

I'd agree there are discrepancies. Perhaps favorites...Which I can understand in this specific example.

If precedents are going to be set, they are based on the current case that generates the precedent. You don't go back in time and reevaluate the sentence you gave people because things changed days, weeks, or years after.

You ban people, based on this example, that allow perma-banned users a communication vehicle to QCDN? Fine, but you don't call up every other issue like that, of which there have been several, and repunish them.

FYI

I do agree re-punishing people would be dumb, which is why we throw out examples of say necrosis doing worse, and such. The main point is that there is favoritism. If the mods go out and publicly say "yes, there's favoritism" then we can't argue with that, as this forum is a private one, but from everything I've heard and seen, the administration tries to treat the forum as if it was a "public" forum that promotes fairness in treatment.

If the administration says "We will perma ban cecilee because we don't like him, but we won't even talk to Daveman about it because we like him more", or "We will temp ban necrosis, and perma ban juvenile because we like necrosis better", then that would certainly shut everyone up.

But as long as the administration wants to give out an image of fairness and equaility, people will argue about situations such as this.

If I'm wrong in assuming that coming out as fair is a goal, then I'll obviously have no place to complain as being able to post on qcdn isn't a birth-right of a human being. If the administration want to ban every user with 3 vowels in their name, or have "ban day" where people are banned for any reason, or give differenet degrees of punishment for the same violation to different people then that's their right to, just can't claim to treat everyone equally without favoritism.

-------

As for cecilee possibly being peregrine, I personally do not know, I do think they know each other in real life, but doubt them being the same person. If there's proof about it, then ban away though. I just think it'd be unfair to ban someone just for having strong connections with peregrine. Zylia and I do talk to pere often enough, I personally think he's a decent guy as long as you keep him away from a forum. I personally didn't like how he posted here either, I usually stayed away from his posts, and sometimes I argued directly against him. I fully understand that peregrine was permabanned, and that should he make a socket puppet, it should be banned on the fact it's a sock puppet.

----

Oh and sneaky, read the first few posts in this thread, and tell me about retroactively banning someone. Cecilee seems to be banned as a direct result of this thread, unless we get an official reasoning explaining otherwise, and going by what the first few posts on this thread from the mods said, I'm gonna have to say that things were applied to past situations, even if it's just one-two days.

They have red names and were trusted with the responsability of making these decisions and are un-biased most of the time, until you have a red name, it's their call.

I only read up to page 4, but about the peregrine thing... if he wants to talk to people so bad, can't he just uh... /tell people in game? I mean, honestly...

I've read the entire thread.

Being that Peregrine (EPIC douche) had any kind of access to this forum, it makes sense to me to ban the user that allowed it. If this case needs to be the one that sets the precedent, so be it. I do agree an explanation in Crime and Punishment is overdue, since all bans are reported. Although, this, to me, is very self-explanatory. I'd assume an "explanation" would really function as more of a recorded document versus a definition of what transpired.

I have only read the first page but this is response to Marajades post.
Rules aren't rules unless they're followed.
I agree with this 100 percent. I see this not only on the internet, but real life also. I worked in a store and i saw my manager breaking the rules just to avoid confrontation with a customer.

I have the feeling that the message wasn't directed to a specific person, but rather to do something like stop a thread from continuing. I don't actually know what the PM was about, but /telling in game would most likely not be the right option.

In addition to this, peregrine has quit the game a long time ago, I do not know if he has the game installed or not, but there's a good chance it's not even installed.

Necrosis only got a one month ban though, for letting Vang on his acount publicly. Jevenile got permananned for the same thing. I see different rulings for the exact same offense.

If I remember correctly, Juvenile made a new account and wasn't rebanned. Supposedly Vang had figured out his password and didn't have permission to be on his first account anyway, while Necrosis knew exactly what he was getting into.

He doesn't play FFXI anymore.

Too lazy to quote again, but I agree with what Daveman said at the top of the page. If you want to be fair, then be fair across the board. If you want to play favorites, then admit it. Don't play favorites and keep acting like you're 100% fair. That's not directed at any particular admin/mod, and honestly I don't care if things are a bit unfair. We all know some idiots deserved to be banned on principle and that Scrubs is the better show anyway.

god well if he doesn't play FF anymore wtf is he doing here still trolling the boards? lol

when people quit they should just gtfo, especially if they weren't well liked.

This, i didn't know. I thought juvenile was another one of the "you've already been banned, but we won't ban you again" people. What you say is indeed the case, then i stand corrected, for the second time in this thread...

You do realize that a pretty good portion of the user base either don't play anymore, don't play on this server, or quit for a decent period of time?

I'm not so sure favorites has anything to do with this, so much so as this is being referred to as a precedent. As such, we cannot compare this example to past examples. Going forward, the consequential actions in regards to similar incidents would have to follow suit. Otherwise, if they did not, then mods would be playing favorites.

It's interesting that mods have paid little/no attention here, or chosen not to respond here for whatever reason, yet this gets brought up in the FB and discussed there. LOL @ that.

Enough time has passed. What is the outcome of this, since users cannot find out about it in Crime and Punishment? By "this", I mean specifically Kink, and specifically Pere. Are these decisions creating precedent, or can we all continue skating in the gray areas? It's serious business, I know, since we need to take shitheads' words that it's their family members using their IP address to access QCDN, and not them. Right. Sure. My roommate is a big fan of QCDN. If I get banned, I'll let ya know right now that she will be on QCDN from my IP. Don't be alarmed. Don't ban my roommate!

Discussing it in the FB as a spin-off topic when this thread exists is an interesting way to go about it though...This whole things seems more like an exercise in how flacid the mods can make their spines, rather than simply, effectively, modding and preventing perma-banned IPs from browsing the site.

Oh your kid can't browse QCDN because so-and-so couldn't stop acting like a cunt and we were forced to perma-ban them? Too bad for you, Suzie.
...But whatever, go soft for it. Pretty weak.

Based on all of this, I am 100% positive that I can do anything (examples: threaten to sue the site and make various other aggressive motions towards mods and the site, or generally be the most hated prick this site has ever seen), get "perma-banned", and still allow a family member to browse QCDN from my IP. That's a great big open door for people to abuse.

Mod team, I hope you can explain to me that I have interpreted your words in the FB, regarding this topic, in the wrong way. Don't bullshit me.

I think the more important question wasn't why he was allowed, but why he even wanted to. For someone who claimed to not give two shits about the people(as well as their opinions) or the website itself, he sure can't stand to stay away.

I think maybe he's just one of those people who HAVE to have the last word?

I hate posts like these, mainly because you don't know the content of the PM, and judging by cmdr's posts early in the thread, I somehow doubt all he wanted was to have the last word.

It makes you look like an idiot who just hates peregrine and decides to throw in a one-line insult without any backing up on it or substance to the current topic. Same deal with Skaw. You know why Skaw? Cause he obviously lied and did care about the site. Big whoop, no relevancy to the topic.

If you guys hate pere so much, I'll give you a way to contact him so you can insult him all you want without wasting space on this site.

That is a waste of time.
Pere knows how much he is hated. He doesn't want messages reminding him of that any more than anyone wants to spend their time messaging him.

I find it worth the time spent, for the board, not for the individual, to at least discuss this through, in hopes that perma-banned folks remain perma-banned, and do not have access to the boards through known loopholes.

I don't hate Peregrine at all, half of the damn time I agreed with him, however he's perma-banned and sounds like he doesn't play anymore. So the only real reason that he would be bothered about posting here is a) to cause more trouble or b) to have the last word, and as we all know in any argument he was involved with he always had to have it.

I don't hate Peregrine at all

But thousands do :(

And he wasn't posting, he sent a PM to a mod through another member - wasn't public, wasn't meant to be public, was made public.. for who knows what reason.... doesn't look to me like Peregrine was the one who wanted to stir up trouble if he was keeping it private. If he's having the last word with a mod, then that doesn't even have to be known. If the person who was forwarding messages was doing it to the point of abuse (which we don't know) I could understand. But if he sent one PM to a mod I really doubt it was to get the last word.

Especially considering he was banned almost a year ago.

Can we get a Bott to replicate him?

I AM A DOKTOR.

I AM UR RIDDILL

DYNAMIS? I AM MADE OF DYNAMIS

I AM DOKTOR

Not to sound finnicky, but if Peregrine thought he would be needing to use some of QCDN's private services (such as those given to members only - PMs for example), then perhaps he should have tried a teeny bit harder not to get permanently banned.

It's not the fact that it occurred that is making a few people cross, I agree a mod could have handled the issue privately. It's the fact that it occurred and no immediate action was taken until it was made public. Other than browsing the few public boards a guest can enjoy (I don't believe the Flameboard is public anymore), he is not entitled to use any of the site's functions, even if it was "oh just one time to send a PM". Why? Because he was permanently banned.

And we all know that to, the point was is useless posts are useless to us, peregrine, and everyone.

Agreed (that it's worth it to discuss), your posts have been relevant to this topic, despite me not agreeing with most of em, I was referring specifically to people like skaw/sharpe who bud in without actually bothering to understand the situation just to make a one line insult, not to your posts.
