Does anyone else that plays and enjoys the game have an unsupporting wife/husband that is against you playing the game? I do..but I have to sneak onto the game to play a bit, lol. Where is the justice?
 
my first online game was socom1... my wife used to hate watchin me play and would get pissed cuz i would be up all night playing. then i talked her into playin and within 2 weeks we bought a ps2 and stuff for her. feels good to have someone to play with, so i feel for ya lol.
 
Hey Kicamo, kinda off topic, but did you by any chance get into FFXI through socom?
 
sort of...because i used to play socom so much, i was part of sonys GAP thing because i used to be a regular on the sony forums, i got into the ffxi beta throught GAP. if it wasnt for gettin a free hdd for beta testing ffxi i doubt i would be playin it today.
 
Stine and I started dating in July 2005 and she had been playing for nearly two years already by that time. I started playing FFXI that Labor Day, and we played together until New Years Day this year.

I can say there were times where my play-time did irritate her, and vice versa, but more times than not we were together playing, and we still do on other games, be it Fallout 3 (watching her play is half the fun!), Guild Wars, or even Pokemon :D
 
Dagoat and I are married in RL and play FFXI togther. We have four children aging from 10 years to 6 months old. What we do is set aside time where we do not play the game. We will go do things together as a family. Last big thing we did was drive across a few states to go see historical sites. Our pet project is to take the children to every state. Maybe you can talk to your wife and set up times where you have your game time. The other option is get her hooked on the game.
 
just do what i do, "put her to bed" to the point she doesnt wanna get back out of bed and go play lol. works for me AND we are both happy!
 
Getting your wife to be okay with MMO gaming is like getting her to be okay with you having sex with another woman. Unless you can get her involved and convince her that its something she wants to try to do, you're going to run into problems.

Make sure if you get her involved in FF somehow, that you do it on seperate accounts. Sharing an account on FFXI was the beginning of the end of my wife and I's relationship.

This opened up a whole new can of worms that we never realized before how much we were incompatable, after 7 years of dating, 3 years of marriage and 3 children. We've now been seperated for the past 2.5 years, with divorce papers finally in the works.

I still refuse to believe FFXI is the single base problem that caused our demise. However, I do believe it opened our eyes to other serious problems in our relationship.

So good luck to you in whatever you choose to do. Just believe that FF can, and will be a gateway to the end of relationships, if you let it.
 
My husband doesn't care for FFXI and he gets irritated if I play it a lot, but I really don't play a lot any more, I am a very casual player so it isnt an issue lol
 
You shouldn't stay up all night playing, that's probably what upset her. Video game addiction is a hot button issue lately so she's probably just concerned.
 
My mom acts like a wife sometimes...(I'm too young to be married myself!!) But she hates how much I play lol ("You never spend time with me! I never see you!") But I like when she understands things like...I can't leave an xp pt at the drop of a dime, or that I'll be busy for a few hours for a dynamis run somedays.

She let's me play, but wishes she didn't...

Yeah, if you can't get her interested in playing with you, I think Mysticalone's solution is win-win.
