Wii Titles Region-Encoded
Games and online content will be region-specific.
by Alex Simmons

UK, September 15, 2006 - Wii games will not be region-free according to Nintendo UK's General Manager David Yarnton. Speaking exclusively with IGN at Nintendo's European Wii press event in London, Yarnton confirmed that Wii games and online content will be region-encoded, meaning European gamers won't be able to play titles from the US and Japan and vice-versa.

The news follows contradictory comments made by Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's Vice President of Marketing and Affairs, which IGN reported on yesterday.

With Square Enix in that list, hopefully we'll see Rad Racer and some Final Fantasy ports. And Chrono Trigger would be lovely.

FF1-6, Chrono Trigger, Mario RPG on Virtual Console.

However, Square-Enix on Wii = Crystal Chronicle, which without Internet play will be doomed to failure like the GameCube version.

Anyone else notice Sega on that list?

Might we get to play some genesis games on our wii?

Thanks for staying Batshit insane Nintendo <3

Yeah, Sonic 1 is already confirmed, as it was playable at last years E3, dunno what else though (for the love of god, bring Streets of Rage and Phantasy Star)!

Its reported that we will get to play Genisis AND 32x games on the Wii thanks to the VC. We dont know if Sega will allow more, but, we're all hoping they will.

and so the death of sony shall begin

in other news.. yay for Wii and it's downloading of old cool nintendo games and good price.

What was it like?

I don't understand why they would port it since the Wii is backwords compatible unless they were making changes such as easier multiplayer capabilities.
