Anyone else a fan of the WA series? I have loved them since the original, I only played it cause there weren't many PSX rpgs, same with why I played Beyond the Beyond before FFVII hit, but I'm glad I did(in the case of WA anyways) and I became hooked to the series.

Anyways, WA5 releases this upcoming Tuesday/Wednesday, and it uses the same HEX battle system from 4, with some adjustments.
It's toned down on the platforming elements of 4, plus it features a lot of cameos to past WA characters from 1 to 4.

Anyone else planning on picking this up? The first shipments of the game are going to be limited edition and come with an 80 page artbook in an embossed foil package for the same retail price as the game is sold to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the series, after those are gone it'll just be the game itself, no foil package/artbook.

Beyond the Beyond sucked like hell... it was a terrible RPG imho.

Wild Arms # 1 was fucking awesome however! It had a very Legend of Zelda (snes) like quality to it which won me and many others over.

It was also rated the 2nd best RPG of the year -- FF7 which came out a few months later ended up getting the best RPG of year award -- understandable but lets not forget that WA1 was an amazing game in and of itself.

I picked up 2 and 3 but I never had the time to finish them. I enjoyed the story of WA3 but I quickly grew tired of grinding and lost my facination for RPG's at that point.

I hope to go back and finish them (along with FF12) in the next few months.

Big fan of the series, hence my toon's name. Too bad WA2 was garbage. Almost done with WA3 (Nightmare Castle I think?), but getting distracted by work, and now Persona has drawn me away from finishing it.

I haven't read much into WA5, and that's fine. I like surprises. All I did know is that it's still using the HEX battle system, and that's good because I liked the battle system. I just hope that it'll be harder than WA4... WA AC:F is still the hardest in my opinion.

Man, i wish i had the money for this lol, and i agree that WA:4 was too easy, i one shotted one of the final bosses with rochel(sp)'s Finest Arts. those special bosses you needed the gaint keys for were insane though, and WA 3 was just awesome( never beat any of the other ones D: )

Funny, WA2 was my favorite, different strokes for different folks heh.
Anyways yeah WA4 was rather easy, and atm I'm currently replaying WA:ACF and WA3, although I probably won't have either beat by Wednesday.

ACF I don't remember where I am, and 3 I'm currently otw to the Sacrificial Altar, so slightly near Nightmare Castle, but not quite there.

I really liked AC:F. They changed enough to make it feel like a different game. I just didn't like how they changed Belzek's name to Berserk. I finished it a long time ago, and I've been going around questing and killing the hidden bosses in an attempt to finally take on Ragu O Ragula. I think my characters are ~level65 with about 70 hours poured into it so far. Best boss fights still were Boomerang and Lucied. Boomerang is just so badass with his incredible theme music. My favorite change though was how Jack's Fast Draws stacked with Accelerator. The first time I used an Accelerated Speed Fang I think I got a boner.

Yeah ACF was fun, I still miss the original, which is why I still have it though and pop it in every now and then lol. ACF was altered enough to make it feel like a different game imo, but still the same WA "feel" if you will that the original had.

I enjoy the sidequests/minigames in all WA's too, the millenium puzzle boxes, secret garden, telepath towers(in 3 anyways), getting EX file keys, fighting Ragu for sheriff stars, and getting 4 total by doing an EX file new game lol, ah I can't wait for 5 and all the cameos from past WA's, plus I hear the abyss is only 30 floors now, that 100 floor abyss in WA3 was a killer lol.

Picked it up today. So far my MAJOR annoyance is that there was no animated intro like the last four (five if you include AC:F) had. Also, the music doesn't sound like Naruke's style. I know she only did some work on WA4, but for this one it sounds like she had no part in it.

Eh, there's no animated intro because the ingame graphics are nearly as good imo, the intro is fine as it is. And Naruke didn't, she was ill or something.

I'm enjoying it fine though, I actually like the new composer(s). WA5's a lot better than 4 was imo(gameplay wise).
Anyways I've currently gotta go to some town to pass my golem hunter test, monsters have taken it over or something.

It's just not Wild ARMs without an animated intro. It's as much a staple to the series as Chocobos are to Final Fantasy.

I've logged about two hours so far, haven't played it yet today seeing how I just got home from work. I'm enjoying it so far. The Wild West theme is back once again, and the artbook was nice, despite it not having any of the artwork from AC:F in it.

Nah, it's WA w/o it, now if it didn't have mediums, a wild west theme(as minor as it was in WA4 there was a hint of it), tools(4 had the tools you had to carry from room to room), interesting save mechanisms(memory statues, save parrots etc), golems, Elw, puzzle boxes, the adventure taking place in a land called Filgaia, and so on, then it wouldn't be WA.

Other RPGs have had animated intros, it's not a WA only thing, and besides the fact, the WA4 one kind of sucked anyways, I'd rather they just use ingame graphics.

Roommate picked this up, it's creepy as hell to hear the Main character's voice actor, Yuri Lowenthal, doing upbeat and care free; he does emo characters so well, it's just disturbing that he's pulling off happy just as well.

Completed the game yesterday ^^, overall it's better than WA4 ( i hate WA4 ugh). Apart from the not-so-good ending as compare the the WA1-3, getting all sidequests done and 12 sheriff stars should be pretty fun >.>;

Heh yeah I'm on my 2nd playthru atm, playing as Knightblazer(WA2 for life) and the skill sharing was worth it to play thru once more lol. Plus the end boss being higher level the 2nd and 3rd times you play thru, and increased xp, 2nd game is X2, 3rd is X3, goes up to X10 I think.

Need all EX File keys though to get both(skill/spell sharing of active team members, and Nine Lives outfit), then start the EX New game.

Yea i got that costume and my first impression when i wear it is... OMG THAT IS HORRENDOUS! Then i switch back to Jet costume... >.> ... It looks like Dean into Leather fetish when he use Nine Lives outfit... -.-

Pssh, Knightblazer>you.... speaking of KB, I'm gonna start a new game on WA2 >>

I've been looking to rent this game from all over the place, and i haven't found it a single place.

Can someone tell me if it would be worth buying? On a scale of 10, preferrably. 1 being as good as WA4 (i hated it sooooo mcuh, and 10 being WA3 (my personal favorite, i still play to this day)?

To me it's a 9 or 10, what did you not like about 4? If it's the HEX battle system 5 uses that as well. But anyways, I enjoy the gameplay, the music kicks ass, even if Michiko Naruke isn't present, frankly I'd say it's better.
I enjoy the characters, the story is a bit on the weak side, but better than 4, not as much high maintenance platforming like there was in 4, which is a relief, still some platforming bits though.

Most of all the cameos in the game are sweets, characters from 1/ACF to 4 are included, and most have an outfit for the characters, or a cameo weapon, plus throwbacks to the anime and whatnot.

If WA3 is 10, then i'll rate WA5 around 8-9. I hate WA4, reason: Characters.
