Hey all! I'm planning to come back to FFXI on the 15th of this month (give or take a day). I quit because I bought the new slim PS2 which doesn't have the HDD on it and my computer's graphics card isn't good enough. But I don't know if thats the only thing. Can anyone tell me if my computer will run it okay? It doesn't have to be perfect, I just want to know if it will run it at all. Here are the specs. Thanks!! Can't wait to comeback and play! :D :D

HP Pavilion a347x

2.60 GHz
Intel Pentium 4 processor
256 MB
80 GB
Buying the nVidia GeForce 6200 OC Grahpics Card

If somone could tell me if that can run FFXI alright I would be very grateful.

Yea it'll play great on that, im playing on:

3.40GHz P4
1GB 3200 DDR
120GB HDD
6800GT

and it plays great on mine, I've also had FFXI playing on:

2.40GHz AMD
256 SD-Ram
And some old 9000ATI card

Played realy nice on it too, so your computer is more then enough to play it.

For bare minimum, I was playing on a Via Micro-ITX, M6000, with a nVIDIA GeforceFX 5200 PCI, 40GB Laptop HDD, and a mere 256 MB of RAM. The entire footprint of the machine was about the size of two CD drives stacked. FFXI runs on very Little.

It's not hard to overkill this game what you have is more than enough! ^^

I run XI w/this

CPU - PENTIUM 4 650 3.4GHZ (overclocked to 4.0GHZ stable)
RAM - 4 yes count em 4 Gigs of Kingston Hyper X ram PC3200
VID - ATI X850 XT 256MB
HDD(s) - Two WD 200G S-ATA
Audio - Soundblaster Audigy 2

I'm running on an Athleon 2200 myself. It wouldn't hurt you to add another stick of RAM. 512 makes everything run smoother.

Hmm..how do you get more RAM? I'm not a computer genuis by the way..forgive me if I sound like an idiot.

Hm. Cool, I'll look into getting some more RAM after I buy my new graphics card. Thanks alot guys n gals.

Too bad your CPU is gimp =P And that's a bit of overkill on the ram <.< Unless you run 893,823,492 memory-intense programs at once >.> I'm fine on 512 OCZ PC3200 Platinum (2-3-2-5 stock)

AMD ftw!

And yeah, that'll run it, but another stick of ram would help loads. You buy it from the internet, or local PC shop (pretty sure best buy even carries ram), and it should have instructions, if not it can pretty much only go in one way, make sure not to force it in though. You'll need to make sure it's the same speed as the original though. It's probably PC2100 because it's HP >.>;

God, I'm such a nerd :(

Woot! You were right about the PC2100. I don't know what that means but I called up Best Buy and I have my new RAM ordered (512 MB). Your not a nerd, just educated in current technology. Thats what I say to my friends whos lives are computers..hehe= ) thanks a bunch

Don't start me on AMD I gave them thier shot and they failed.....Can't take the punishment I dish out overclocking. and the 4 gigs of ram I know of course isnt needed Eulore =P I had to fill those 4 ram slots with something so whynot?

AMD and Intel are like ford and chevy fights lol they all have thier pros and cons..... I dont really like the small FSB on AMD processors. What good is a huge MHZ count when you have a slower data path.....

i used to have it running on a 1.1 gig pentium with 512 ram and the nvidia 5200fx

i now have it on the amd athlon (2.8 gig) 512 ddr and the same nvidia 5200 fx vid card.

your asking for a lower processor life by overclocking anyhow. yes, you can overclock..(this is based on everyones OPINIONS), but if processors were meant to be at the speed that you overclock it to, they would have made it that speed in the first place.
i dont remember the specs on my processor for the fsb, but i think its like 350-400 and the board i have is 400. there isnt much that would require you to have more than that unless your doing some heavy hitting programs and ffxi isnt one of those

If it dies I replace it simple as that I get all my parts super cheap anyways..

I've been overclocking PC's for a while I know what it takes to kill a cpu pretty fast...As long as you can keep the cpu cool with a mean heatsink and fan and some high quality thermal goop things will be fine .^^ My mobo is designed to overclock it came with a slew of programs to OC my ram video card and processor.

if it were to be OC;d they would have made it to the specs that you have it at now or whatever. like you said, they are like cars. people upgrade cars as well, but it doesnt mean that they are meant to be upgraded. IE-nitrous....shit goes boom. its kinda kool watching the intake manifold from a mustang cobra being blown off/
me personally would OC also, howevver, i dont have the money to replace parts when they do go bad.

Intel has the higher mhz, and smaller FSB makes it better for me to tweak my system.

Unless you fill the whole 2mb cache on an intel, amd will be more efficient.

AMDs run cooler, last I read. I used to overclock a lot, but quit when my XP 2700+ died at 2.5ghz. I had some beast of a copper block from thermal right and a tornado on that. Kept it nice and cool.

Oh, and artic silver 5 ftw (unless there's a new artic silver out, been out of the computer/overclocking scene since basically I got into XI, lol)

Some people did some tests and AMD (top end CPUs at the time from each) beat Intel at everything except video compressing, which is explained because of the massive L2.

all i have to say is athlon 64^^ i run one on a dfi board (which are sexy for oc) and i can do sexy sexy things with it, I'm amd all the way, 1600 fsb nothing wrong with that ^^
