Anyone heard of any new FFXI online games or a MAJOR (not expansion) change to the current FFXI?

I mean its so old now, its almost impossible to start over or start new. It is not at all the game it used to be, and I refused to do anything over again when everyone around me willl just have multiple 75s and be done with everything.

Do you think there will ever be anything new? Some pondered a FFXI-II a while back, but it isnt happening.

thoughts?

this game is just old now. Most people stay for their friends. I mean..basically everyone is or should be done with almost all of the content. I cant imagine many people are new on any of the servers lol

I truly loved this game, but ive just done everything and dont want to redo it. I LOVED leveling to 75, and playing with friends, but all my friends quit as did I, and tbh i would pay $500+ for a game of the same quality of FFXI, but with 2008 graphics and obviously a completely different plot

Not all of us are as...decorated, as you. Believe it or not, a lot of people still are on promvy's. Hell, a lot of people don't even have zilart complete yet.

I agree with you though, FFXI is showing it's age. The game is nothing short of amazing, Its the only mmo (and I have played nearly all the pay to play ones and just about all the free ones) that really caught my heart. It has its problems, less now then before, but it's still showing the wrinkles and losing the hair.

Pretty much though, nothing's really on the market. Eve,Wow, Lotro, and FFXI are now currently the top tier mmo's.

Good news is, this year will hopefully change the mmo community for the better. Many big hit mmo's will be fighting each other and the current giants for the bigger slice of the limited mmo population, odds are one of them should be good. Huxley,Warhammer, Age of Conan, Spellborn, and Aion. My point is, a big migration from a lot of the old mmo's will be happening soon, and no matter how much we love the games we used to play, we all move on eventually.

My personal hopes go for Aion, asian mmo's are really well done (FFXI, for example?) . My only real dislike is their "grind" fetish. But, that should be less of a problem with current mmo's. The only reason grinding became a asian mmo staple is because it was designed to help get the asian population into mmo's by making the games easy (through more repetitive action then usual.) and it kind of stuck with them as the way a normal mmo should be.

This day and age, they're as sick with grinding as we are. The "grind" mmo market is saturated and undesired, mmo's like that simply can't survive anymore. Aion, for example, is an asian mmo designed from the ground up to appeal to the western culture but still incorporate all the delicious things I like about asian mmo's.

It gets my vote for hopefully best mmo of the above stated, with age of conan a close second. Here's some videos if any wants to take a peek.

Keep in mind the game is still in early beta, and I'd suggest watching most of these to the end.

A look at a few areas (lovely watch! All in game too.):

i just dont understand how you guys do it lol, I mean the part i liked most about this game was acheiving the unachievable, and now that its so old...everything has been done, and most of the competition is based on how quickly and efficiently things can be done.

but w/e,I wasnt saying you shouldnt have fun anymore, just saying I did really love this game but it has no future for me, and many others who have nothing left to do except try to get every single last item they didnt even really want, but dont have.

and dude, aion looks pretty sweet, hadnt heard about that ( I dont really keep up with game announcements)

Well, people play for different reasons. Some like leveling, some like being rich and don't care about story, some like crafting, some are story whores. As long as you have fun, you're not wasting time, since the purpose of the game has been accomplished. When you stop having fun, you need to move on, maybe come back once in a while to sample what you loved so much again. That's just the way I see it. I'm enjoying FFXI now, I'm having fun, but I'll probably be trying Age of Conan out when it comes out in three months.

People like you who have nothing left should just play a new mmo, I don't know if FFXI is your first mmo, but this is the way it is lol. SE is working on a next gen mmo, but it probably won't be out for years and truly "new" content is released yearly for FFXI in expansion form, so I'd find another game to play if you feel you've accomplished everything.

If you're really attached no one is saying you have to leave forever, I still have friends of mine who play games like Anarchy Online, and they keep themselves busy with like WoW, and come back everytime something new is released in AO. I suppose you could do the same too.

Oh and yeah, not a lot of people know about Aion. Everyone's all hot and bothered about Warhammer (though I think they're probably just going to ruin another great story like blizzard did with warcraft's story. Might still be an amazing game though.) and I try to point the game out when I get a chance.

Well. I'm level 53, finally. on DRK. There is still a lot for me to do. And there are new people quite often. A way they could maybe bring this game back to life. Is yeah. Up the graphics but that requires more ban with. So when there is a break through in net speed, there will be a break through in MMO graphics.

I like FFXI and Quetz cause I meet great people on it. And you can find people with similarities and become pretty good friends. It's just a way to have fun and do things with friends. If anything, the need to just wait. Use up like 2 years to think of a HUGE new addition, and then realease it.

~

I will admit Aion looks orgasmic

FFXII meets WoW meets LII

Why don't you do the next best thing? Help others~ Everyone everywhere in this game needs help with something. If you're up for it. I'll give you a pearl for the "Oath" LS. Check it in the LS Recruiting section.

The community has always been on everyone's "why I play/like this game", and that helps with the fun factor like you said.

But my guess is that it'd take too much work, cost too much money, or both to restructure the game and do drastic upgrades. It's not as simple as "toss in new skins", when you make a big change in one area it effects a lot of things. That's why everquest just poped out everquest 2. It was probably an easier change.

I don't think FFXI can have the required changes it needs to refresh itself completly, and as I said in another thread I made it's going to end up killing itself with it's xp system eventually. Yes, new people are trickling in, but not fast enough and even then eventually you'll have too many 75's. That's a problem mmo's that don't allow much soloing all face.

I have no idea what S-E's nextgen mmo is, if it's another FF game, or if it's a sequel to FFXI, but my guess is they're doing the same thing with FFXI that happened with everquest, putting their focus on the nextgen mmo and leaving FFXI there as long as it keeps pulling in profits.

FFXI is still a fun mmo, I enjoy it greatly, and I hope it keeps coming up with interesting things like lovely new areas and classes and events, but it can only do so much. :c

I just have a hard time seeing enough change in FFXI to have it compete strongly with the kind of nextgen mmo's we're starting to see. Hell, WoW is currently the most successful mmo and I doubt it'll do any better.

Well. They could bring in an ENTIRE new plot. Maybe future travel and a nice story line on it and why you look weird and yada yada, plus increase NPC user interface is a new thing I hope. Maybe even AI. That's the ultimate next gen gaming. AI NPCs. Who can move where ever when ever how ever, withing restriciton...like...a choco vendor can't really move, and have shop times and all that. Like...in Aht Urghan, have the choco vendor leave from like 10pm - 7am or something and have weird standing NPCs running around and not always in the same area...it makes things more 'real'.

To have an AI NPC that can logically choose to like, talk to you and crap. And if you get your fame high enough, they'll stop as the walk by and give you a pat on the back or something. Plus, to increase player interface. Change a battle system to it rellys on player skill not just level and equipement, but to move in and out of the path of battle, and dodge arrows and crap, that part is far away but I'm so looking forward to it.

I'll admit Aion has a gorgeous world. Not sure how the gameplay would be, I'd need to read up.

I play FFXI because it's habit now. lol And I'll convince myself everyy so often to keep playing.

shit lol the more I see of Aion the more I like it. warhammer looks lame.

Exactly, that would be amazing. The more unique and interesting things you add the more people keep interest and the more you differentiate yourself from the other mmo's.

i dont play anymore lol, u know the game is more fun without help dont you?

I loved this game with pling and help didnt exist. when I played through it a second time on nin it was too easy.

plus sea and everything was too easy when everyone knew exactly what to do.

Cause honestly. Think about it, we created AI...now it's just to be implimented into a video game.

I personally, feel if they made .hack//G.U. a MMO it would do quite nicely with a lot of work and planning, I heard Japan released a game like .hack//. Lasted a year if that. THat game could be great with great minds behind it.

I enjoy help 'cause I still learn things. I like getting help because not many people help anyone these days, In game and out...it's why I made the shell. Everyone is only caring for them selves more and more, in both worlds...it's pathetic.

But to help someone feels good, and to get helped feels good to 'cause you know not everyone is a pompus stuckup jackass. Plus, you have fun with friends. Sure both of you discovering something is fun too. Even better when your high level friend forgets something and you get lost for 2 hours :)

Yeah, it's really captured me heart. Obviously, there's no way to tell how good it really is until release but I got my hopes up. They have a neat free enviroment system akin to platformers, as you can hold on to edges and climb up stuff ect.

You also have free form flying once you earn your wings, and it's pretty realistic. Rain will make flying harder for example and effect stuff like ice spells (you'll see the rain freeze for example) and it can be manipulated for effect. They actually have aerial combat in and semi-realistic aerial dynamics(i.e. strong winds will spin you out, frost spells my partially freeze one of your wings making flying a lot more harder)

I don't mind pling too much, I hate how people use it as a wheelchair though. I've actually had people refuse to party without a pler, it was pretty sad.. newbs and rank 10's alike too.

My gripe with preset stuff like sea in FFXI or instances in wow is JUST that, I hate it. Once some asshole comes up with the best plan it turns from an unknown foray into adventure into a orchestrated play. Obviously there's reasons for that, but I hope we start seeing some highly dynamic stuff.

:P I love it when a plan goes to shit because of something unexpected (not because of nubness or crapiness) and we all do our jobs and hotspot a plan and it comes together. Its a damn good feeling.

I hope there is no more MMOs labled Final Fantasy.

I'm waiting for someone to try and put together a sequel MMO in which you transfer your character to the new world and wind up keeping some small fraction of what you had.

Didn't Guild Wars allow you to transfer characters from one version to the next?
