So I came home from work last night and hoped to boot up my pc to play some ff11 I'm sure many can relate here ;)

However after I made it to the windows 2000 screen instead of a log-in screen loading up I get a quick blue screen flashing something about a physical memory dump so I think its a registry problem even though everything was working fine before I left.

I try pressing f8 to safe mode or restore last working config. and in the end not one of the options on the trouble shoot screen is working anyone else have ever have this issue / have a solution?

step 1. write down, verbatim, the error code generated.
step 2. get on another computer and google it.
*optional*
step 3. rebuild with windows xp pro, and toss out windows 2000.

sounds like a crashed hard drive... but you may be able to fix it be re-installing the OS

My notebook randomly crashes with the exact same error... Dump of physical memory, all that jazz.. Usually happens because (Im assuming) of a fatal error within a video program, because all of the time it happens (if I remember right) its when Im playing some sort of video file in windows media player, or an online media player (not sfw's)

I know this isnt any help, just kinda pokin in...

its not that I can write it down it flashes within a second a restarts immediatly I tried to take a pic of it with my cell phone camera I got some of the problem but pretty hard just to see it.

I've seen it long ago when I tried to shutdown or something but now it goes to that and resets the computer and it starts a never ending cycle of restarting until I hold the power button

after my brother tripped the breaker a few times, his Desktop now does what the OP says, exactly.

Time for research

My solution in the end was install another windows 2000 where it would let me choose which to boot off of, copy everything you wanted to keep from the old one to the new one and then delete it off.

Your going to have to reinstall most programs but better then a complete format I suppose

yeah, after researching this for a few minutes, Im beginning to noticed how fatal it is to the computer. Whether I recover from the XP startup cd (which isnt anywhere to be found) or just do a clean install, files will be lost.

Oh well, his computer sucks anyway

Yeah recovery console didn't do crap but XP did have an option 2000 didnt for boot repair so you might get lucky

if needed, buy a new cheap HD and just do a clean install on the new HD. that way, you can access all of the old info (pics, music, etc) on the old HD so you arent losing irreplaceable things.

did you recently add any new hardware or new software?

well if you add another install of the OS you choose which to boot from and the other info is on hard drive I just wouldn't copy over system files because you know some of them are corrupt :D

eh, its not my computer, I dont know anything about it or whats been done to it. Im just the 'repair man.' Ive let him know that hes going to have to do a clean install, he should be fine with it. He doesnt really do much on his computer (that I know of)
