Lately my computer will not open recieved files. Any files that it finds to be "potentially harmful" it automatically blocks access to with a Windows Security Warning, and thus far I've been unable to find a way around it.
At first, instead of clicking on the provided file links, I went into my folders and opened the item myself. But now windows is beginning to block those too.
It's becoming increasingly frustrating, and I could really use some help.

I had turned off all windows security settings that I could find, as they were continuously getting in my way when I would try to surf the internet, talk to friends, play my games, etc.
Should I turn anything back on? Is there a way to format my security settings so that I no longer have to deal with this?

Any help...would be great. :|

The most amusing thing; I've been trying to get a screenshot of the security message, but now that I actually want to see it I can't seem to find a way to make it pop up.

I'll work on getting a screenshot, but in the meantime if anyone knows what I'm talking about, please help? :(

EDIT:
I got the screenshot, here's what the warning looks like.

The only option I have is to exit the window or press OK, and either way my files are blocked. When I go searching through my folders they're nowhere to be found.

Dowzer's having the same trouble. Let me try some things here. [don't worry. I won't say anything that could harm your computer.]

Go to your control panel and double click internet options. Click the security tab and make sure the "internet" picture is highlighted (the globe) and click custom level. Not too far down the list, the list for "downloads" will be there. Find that. Make sure under "file download" it is checked on enable, not disable.

Just for some information, Windows has blocked these file extensions :

7z, aac, aia, ace, ade, adn, adp, aip, ait, amf, ani, aob, ape, apl, app, arj, asf, asp, aspx, avi, ax, bas, bat, bin, bmp, bz, bz2, cab, cda, cdf, cer, chm, cmd, com, cpl, cpp, crt, csh, csv, cue, dat, date, dib, diz, dll, doc, esp, exe, fla, flac, fxp, gif, gz, h, hlp, hta, htm, html, htt, icd, icl, ico, img, inf, ini, ins, ip, iptheme, iso, isp, its, jar, jpe, jpeg, jpg, js, jse, kar, ksh, lnk, log, lzh, m3u, m4a, mac, mad, maf, mag, mam, maq, mar, mas, mat, mau, mav, maw, mda, mdb, mde, mdt, mdw, mdz, mht, mid, midi, mov, mp2, mp3, mp4, mpc, mpg, mpeg, mp+, msc, msi, msp, msstyles, mst, nfo, nls, nrg, ogg, ops, par, par2, pcd, pct, pcx, pdd, pdp, php, php5, pict, pif, pls, png, ppt, prf, prg, prx, psd, pst, pub, pxr, qxr, rar, raw, reg, rle, rtf, sav, scf, scr, sct, sfv, shb, shn, shs, swf, tar, tga, .theme, tif, tiff, tmp, torrent, tpl, txt, url, uue, vb, vbe, vbs, vda, voc, vsd, vsmacros, vss, vst, vsw, wav, wma, wmv, ws, wsc, wsf, wsh, xaml, xhtml, xls, xml, z, zip.

So, if you want, you (or whoever sending) could change the file name to bubble.ext and when the person recieves it, rename it correctly. That's one way to bypass the error.

Another way is to download the File Extension Unblocker. It will unblock all of the file extensions Microsoft has blocked.

Try this and if it doesn't work, I'll find some more.

I downloaded that File Extension Unblocker and it worked to fix mine.

Well i'll be darned you learn something new everyday... What the hell is that?? lol Never seen that one, my first impression would be thats its an internet viruse but I don't know, looks pretty authentic.

I'll research.

one question? Are you using MSN or the MSN toolbar?

If not I take it your opening it from outlook.

If this is the case your having problems with SP2's attachement manager. You simply need to turn it off. (I think)

Let me know if i'm close ^^.

Alright well I just downloaded the file extention unblocker, and I hope it works. I haven't had a chance to see if it will or not - but I'll test it out.
Thanks a lot for your help Atrbiohazard.

I'm just using MSN. I don't have the toolbar, and I don't use Outlook; so I guess that I don't have any SP2 attachment manager to turn off? ^^;

It seems to have worked, I haven't had any problems opening files since.
However, if they pop up again I'll be sure to complain about it right here.

Thanks again! :)
