Alright I just need to say this I hate Windows Update’s auto reboot function. It is such a pain when you’re copying over large amounts of files for work, and Windows Update decides to spontainously reboot your computer in the middle of a file copy. You’d think that the dev’s of Windows would be put in some code to check and see what processes are running, and if a file copy is in process not reboot the computer. Anyone else have simmilar annoiances?

Wrong Section. Buy anyway, I agree, it's very annoying.

Sorry figured flame board, flaming windows update would be approperate, feel free to move the thread or delete it.

cant u change it to make it so it doesnt auto install the updates? ive nvr messed w/ it before but im pretty sure i saw an option like that somewhere.

You can? how? I've been pissed off millions of times by windows restarting when i go afk or leave the pc on overnight for a download.

Um... LOL yes you can and it's very simple. Just open it up to the windows update screen and tell it what to do and when, you can even have it so it won't auto-dowloand the updates at all and you can always update it manually whenever you want which is what I do.

There fixed. I have a feeeling that i've done this before though...gremlins in my pc?

Just because I over simplify just about verything with screenshots: (this is all based on having Windows XP Service Pack 2)

Start menu > Settings > Control Panel > Security Center

From the security center, click on the "Automatic Updates" link to bring up your auto updates options.

and select the option that best suits your preferences. (Windows Security Center will constantly annoy you with little message if you turn off your updates or set it to something it doesn't like, so I suggest just having it do all the updates on a day/time that you know you won't be on the computer, like when sleeping or at work.)

Windows doesn't touch coding at all, they takes bits and pieces from other OS and add in their fair share in places they know they can put it and wont fuck things up. Thats why viruses can easily penetrate a Windows computer, so easy to write code for them because Windows doesn't try out write their own. And it there is a segment of code they don't recognize, they write a program to hide it. This is all proven, a Windows computer running something that takes up 10% CPU usage, 24 hours later takes up 50%. When you open an application on Windows, then close it, sure the window went away, but the process is still running. On a Mac, it's completely different, lets say you start up Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. Then you close out, your back to square one, Mac actually ends the entire process. Thats why with a Windows P.o.S. you have to restart atleast once a week, and why else do you think they invented the "clean up disk" function...? To get rid of all the code left behind because they don't know a code to fully shut it down...or where to put it. To be honest, I run on a Windows, but when I get an ounce of lag on a 3.2Ghz processor with 4Gbs of RAM...we have a problem, I restart every 2 daysish to call it 'safe'.

So in your case, you prolly have some sort of virus in all that random coding and your anti virus can't detect it, surprisingly, if possible I would recommend getting the "Windows Live One Care" 50$ for 3 computers for a year. It's fixed up my computer from time to time.

Plan B, would get into a position at work where your not 'expendable' and demand to your boss, "GET FUCKING MACS OR I QUIT!" and that might do the job, /comfort and good luck.

Least you don't get viruses because your computer updates when it is supposed to.

Or he could just not do something stupid like open random attachments, update the anti virus software and perhaps maybe just maybe update it at a time that is actually convenient for him since windows was actually forcing him off the pcmid work/download since i doubt waiting up to 1 extra day is going to open someone up to 10 billion random viruses?
