Winning "Mog Bonanza" numbers

My 4 mules got an exp scroll (easy to guarantee) , main rank 4. I was very close to rank 2 >.< (1 number off, lol).

I almost won something. 10178... If only it was the first four numbers.

now lets play Global Thermonuclear War

While FFXI does cost a lot of money, it also saves a lot of money. Here's how I figure:

Time it takes to beat an offline game... about a week to two weeks depending on the game.
Cost of an offline game... $40-60, so let's say $50 for argument's sake.

Assuming I'd spend the same time playing regular games as I do FFXI, that would be around $100 to $200 per month just on games. Compared to the $20/month I spend on FFXI (I have a lot of mules), that's a savings of anywhere from $80-$180 per month.

After playing four years, that's a savings of $3840 - $8640.

Add into that bar tabs I *haven't* run up, other hobbies I *haven't* dropped money into, and DVDs I *haven't* bought, the savings runs well over $10,000. All for a cost of giving about $1100 to SE in subscription plus about $140 in the cost of the game and all the expansions.

$1240 to save $10,000? That's a *hell* of a good investment.

EDIT: The money I've paid SE divided by total playtime yields a grand total of $0.17/hr. That's damned cheap.

Only things I really spend my money on these days is FFXI and expanding my CD collection.
New gaems are nice, but they're so few and far between I don't really count them in.

lol, whenever my friends and colleagues tell me that online games are expensive or waste money, I usually do tell them that it saves me money instead. Since I go out less, that money is not spent.

Unfortunately a quick check in the bank does not verify this claim...... I guess I do go out less but I spend more each time I do go out now -.-;

No winning for me... not even an xp scroll cause I didn't read and thought it wasn't the last number right to get the scroll

Checked numbers for 3 other friend with total of 5 char and got 2 xp scroll... two other friends got rank 4 and a LS mate got rank 3 x2.

Wish they only said winners on each server so we could at least know if anyone on Quetz got Rank 1.

Announcing the winners names is like putting a big bulls eye over their character for RMT to go after, I'm glad they didn't announce the winners.

Yeah, because knowing a character's name is the same thing as an IP, the RMT would target them with their hacks instead of the shotgun approach they're using now.

Hey I know that Taj was able to hack like 5 people a few months ago just through 1 of them buying gil or something so idk =p.

That's different from the RMT targeting them. He had their IP's from their website, the RMT wouldn't have your IP from just your character name.

Do you give up on life because you buy lottery tickets and don't win? Give me a break

Yes, brb while /wristing.

Really though, it wasn't the fact that I got nothing that makes me dislike the game even more (since I'm quite used to that, thanks), it's the fact that just about no one got anything. Seeing as to how few got the grand prize compared to how many people got lottery balls across all the servers (without even considering how many mules some have), it's like they just went and picked the absolute least chosen number rather than randomly picked one.

One big reason I quit the game because I got tired of the drama and the poor droprates. People obsessed too much over gear that made very meager difference (with the except of under half a dozen items). People argued over priorities and crap and then people who got those items thought they were some kind of god. Why? Because they were extremely lucky or spend a damn lot of time standing around, waiting for pixels to appear [and botclaimed. GG]. And should you happen to get some of these drops, having as low as a 5% drop rate, what are they used for? XPing for merits so you can hunt the same crap even more and kill it slightly easier.

The whole "don't forget your family and friends" thing is extremely self-defeating since it expects you to camp 3-hour windows for a 5% drop, and it gets considerably worse since most all endgame HNMLSes expect you to camp anything they want to camp, which can be three or more HNMs a day.

Life card is very goddamn overplayed, but seriously how can anyone have one if they're stuck doing that crap? I got sick of playing since all it is is throwing away an abhorrent amount of time camping crap that's marginally better for the most part and costs so much damn time that it's not remotely worth it.

FFXI was indeed a fun game for a while, but when theres other games that don't require you to waste quite literally dozens of hours a week for something you may not get for months down the road (something that might not even be close to that helpful to you), I'm afraid it loses it's luster. Some believe that good things should be insanely rare, and I can respect that, but personally I just chose not to take that route - I'd like to play a game because it's fun, not play a game for months upon months and hope to unlock the "finally be accepted as not-gimp so you can have fun" feature.

I will forever miss a lot of the experiences I had with some people in the game, and I will also miss hanging out with a lot of the people...I just simply can't take wasting any more for things that are of such marginal gain and yet mandatory to be seen as "not gimp".

Really wish alot of you would have been around for the ZNM releases. The camping aspect is gone. The absolute most we've had to wait for an NM (besides getting there on our own) is 5 minutes while another group finished up a tier 1.

Drop rates I agree could be better, but if everyone had everything, then this wouldn't be the game it is today.

I'm 2/29 on HQ staves recently, have lost a ton of gil, but I realize that eventually it will turn around. Do I get pissed? Sure. Do I think the game owes me?

No.

For those who say so few one the grand prize, its a LOTTERY. Have someone who knows math do the odds for you, there was never supposed to be a lot of winners. I got an exp scroll for every mule because it was easy.... 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0, 10 last numbers, 10 marbles. Works the same way if you have 10 characters, you do it right you were guaranteed at least one Rank 4 (which bottom line breaks even). Past that, it gets ridiculous how many you need for the higher Ranks. I got a Rank 4 on main, and I don't have 10 characters, so I consider myself lucky.

10~20 of every rank 4 prize has gone on the AH already.
I have a feeling that i'll just grab the 100k.

I didn't even get an exp scroll, lol, but that is because I just let the moogle pick all my numbers for me. The odds of getting rank 1 is at least 1/100,000, which is why not many people won.

That has absolutely nothing to do with it, really.
