just curious because if i do choose to make a come back i would have to start from scratch. how hard is leveling? say from 10-20 also how do i make sure that i get back on the quetz server? does the world pass thingie need to be applied or what?

Short answer: Not very.

Long answer: Basically, Abyssea has made the leveling process from 75-95 pretty straightforward, and you can enter it at level 30, but you'll typically have to pay for the privilege, or have friends take you in. Prior to that, in a similar fashion, Grounds of Valor (the dungeon equivalent of Fields of Valor) have made it pretty easy to get your jobs up. I've taken 3 jobs from 37 to 50 in one afternoon in the Crawler's Nest, for example. In the long run, skilling up will take more time than leveling.

If you've got friends who still play, it'd be fairly simple, all things considered. If you don't know anyone though, could be a little tricky to do things like subjob quests, since I doubt you'd be able to find too many people who needed lol.

And I'm pretty sure you can just pick a server these days. Dunno for sure tho', haven't actually made a new character since 2007.

I hate leachers(keying=leaching as some lvl 75 can do it and they can attack too!) so I wont take level 30s to abbysa(unless they pay me like 10 million gill or more)...although I have no issues with Grounds of Valor and/or FOV since everyone helps kill/cure/fight(do something! don't stand there like an idiot with a bag of keys...sorry my personal nerd rage...). I miss normal XP parties and I swear one of them doing this stuff would level up faster than the trios I seem to get on lower level jobs lately.

The thing is that most people have stopped inviting other members and think that solo is the way to go but if you can find them you can ask to join forces although this makes for some rather unconventional parties. Hardly anyone seeks anymore which I think is a total shame. Also since people level up so fast they start lacking skills like weapons, magic and such so this presents an issue when you want to make spells stick to mobs, have puppets do things or have your mele character hit the broadside of a barn. This makes it so you'll have to spend hours pounding on crabs just to get enough accuracy(or nuke things in the case of magic accuracy) just to hit(get spells to stick)...in fact one of my sister's friends spend two whole months skilling his puppet for Puppetmaster(and it's still not quite right). Skilling is faster thank it used to be but it's still a pretty big pain...

From what i can tell the game seems easier to level but the gil seems to be a little tougher to obtain. i can probably solo to 30 then check out the valor grounds or whatever the thing is called. ohh btw anybody know if that noob meeze is still on quetz?

I don't think gil was ever easy to obtain unless you bought it or ran a HNM shell.

Gil both is, and is not, more difficult to obtain.

A lot of the old BCNM fights and scrolls people used to farm for gil are pretty much ignored now. Utsusemi: Ni is heading for 1.5 mil on my server, for example. A lot of the used-to-be-cheap Ancient Magic scrolls are going for several hundred thousand for similar reasons, etc etc.

Once you get a substantial reserve of cruor, the currency in Abyssea, you can start turning it into gil as needed. There are a few ways to do that, with varying levels of efficiency, but some research on your part should turn up the one that fits your situation best.

Do people still have exp parties in the dunes and qufim island? or am i looking at a solo journey to 30?

Sometimes, though Grounds of Valor may have changed that since the last time I raised a job from 1. For a while there, Qufim was a very popular level sync destination.

You'll never have to pay for experience points if you still have friends in the game. I used to do 'bring a friend' nights for cleave parties... As long as you can bring someone who comes as something useful they can bring one leech and one keyer. Never pay for XP.... When you have to pay for it you've failed at RPGs.

Game was flipped on easy mode before they released Abyssea.
Once Abyssea came out, it was flipped to retardedly easy mode.
Now it's in the "you've got to be a moron or can't make friends if you can't succeed at this game" type of easy mode.
If you're competent and have friends or can network your way into some...
You'll be fine.
Just don't expect the game to be what it used to, or what job you play to function like it may have before.
If you're interested in maining a certain job because it played a certain way, you might want to ask some people before you zip something to 95.
Best of luck if you undertake restarting. ^_^
