World History: Europe, Asia, and NA

So killing 200,000 innocent civillians prevented a lot of deaths. I see. wow.

Ironically enough when you look at the actions the Japanese were willing to take it actually did. This of course depends on whether or not you believe the Russians entering the fight against the Japanese the following week was what actually caused the Japanese to surrender.
Consider how many people the Japanese murdered from their own nation in the battle for Okinawa. can you imagine how many more they would have been willing to sacrifice along the way if the war was drawn out? People were used as human shields. Entire families were lied to and told that the American forces would torture and rape them to encourage them to commit suicide. Those are the atrocities they committed against their own people. Think about the things that would have happened if the war HAD been dragged out for months or years longer than it had.
Japan had TWO bombs dropped on them. After the first batch of em died they still were willing to let the rest be slaughtered. Let's be honest here. A country attacks you with a nuclear device and you have no means of combating it. You are screwed. take the surrender. You dont wait to watch even more people die.

It was more of a 'Don't forget what you've done yourself' sort of thing Raes. In no way do I excuse either side's actions.

That's the thing, we don't forget. Particularly in the last 20 years or so, US history that's been taught has been significantly how freakin' horrible we are. What we were discussing was whether other countries do the same, and the answer is usually no.

Even in the earlier part of the century, while it may have been mostly glossed over, history courses at least touched on the bad things we did. They may not have really delved into mistreatment of native Americans, the failure of Reconstruction, and other ugly parts, but they were at least mentioned in passing.

I've seen pictures of a plaque in a Japanese museum remarking on how the US forced Japan into WWII.

We're in agreement then. ... How did it devolve to this in the first place >.<

Amazing isn't it? I believe it was some question about what kind of history are being taught in schools.....

At least you have history to learn, and not 300 years of complete and absolute... nothing. Our history class is either American History, or World history, since a large part of our own history was never recorded.

Back in school I was learning other people's history as well since we don't really have much of our own, except the mythical discovery of our island, then when Raffles popped by for high tea and when the Japanese came along and had dinner with the British.

As an independent sovereign country we only have 42 years of history so... not much to worry about in classes!

Back when I had history classes we learnt stuff like the arrival of the Portuguese in Malaya, then the Dutch and British (Malay and Indonesia), Thailand's history and I think I might have done a little bit of Myanmar though I can't remember it now. Of course we had WWII in the books, mainly the Japanese in SE.Asia.

I heard that the year after us, they changed the scope and included American Civil War. I'm not sure.

has anyone wondered/seen if the JP players did a similar survey about us?

Don't tell me you forgot about the history pamphlet already!
Bermuda had so many damned cannons and forts ready to blow the fuck out of anything that even tried invading us that we never really had any big wars to put in the history books as anyone that bothered trying was fucked and they would be going through way too much effort to get a land that only has a use as an outpost at best.

Now if only you could somehow stretch that paragraph out to last 1 school year lol

Considering what most projections were calling for in casualties from an invasion of mainland Japan, yes. Projections ranged from a couple million or so up to as much as 14 million, assuming Japanese morale held.

Also they saved saved Europe just because of this, they are saviours. They made the war to Viet Nam to save their people I guess too. Later they invaded Irak to free people of Sadam also, and invaded Afghanistan to stop drog traffic and and terrorism.

edit : forgot to add sadam's mass destruction weapons

if i give you a dollar will you stay on topic?

Well technically there's the discovery of the island, wreck of the sea venture, the fact that this apparently saved the american asses living in jamestown(and subsequently means we made it possible for america to even exist),history of slavery on the island(including the fact that the great-granddaughter of cheif powatahn(pocahanta's dad) was a slave here, the abolition deadline set by england for all slaves to be freed and the fact that not a single colony made it to the deadline without all te slaves rising up and kicking the asses of anyone trying to keep them a slave as long as possible when the orders to set them free had been signed, the woman's rights movement, the civil rights movement, our medal we won at the Olympics once for boxing, our general political history, the founding of the bermuda company, and some other stuff im too lazy to keep on typing. And of course the assassination of the governor AND HIS DOG(when we're told about this in history class the sentence always makes it seem like killing his dog was the real crime or at least 10x more unforgivable. On a side note: it's widely beleived that the guy hanged for committing he murders was innocent and was framed for convenience sake)

Because it' obvious that those nations were inventing biological weapons and experimenting on their own people, testing flamethrowers, grenades, bubonic plague, cholera, anthrax on live subjects, . Because they were obviously performing exploratory surgery on people while they were alive and conscious? Because hundred of thousands of women were raped and murdered and put in a ditch, or worse they were kept alive to become "comfort women" by Iraq and Vietnam? Because Vietnam and Iraq were in the middle of a full scale attempt to actively take over the world?
The Vietnam and Iraq situation is NOTHING like what was being done in world war two just on the basis of on how large a scale it was occurring and the atrocities being committed.

In both of those instances, we were actually. You're welcome for not being forced to speak German, by the way.

When did we invade Irak, I've never even heard of such a country.

Just surrender already like your heritage is telling you to.

Yeah cause we all know how the French win wars all the time :spiteful:

For some reason I'm reminded of Kevin Kline in a Fish called wanda this topic.
Oh you English are SO superior aren't you. Well would like to know where you'd be without US the good old USofA to protect you? The smallest fucking province in eastern Europe thats where, so DON'T call me stupid lady just THANK me. If it wern't for us you'd all be speaking German!

* leaves singing Deustchland Deutstchland uber alles*.

We'd not of been German, they gave up after the RAF slaughtered the Luftwaffe. The majority of historians are in agreement that we'd of won the war without the US though due to the Russians. Although Red Alert's storyline would probably of come true after that and it'd of been a GB+USA vs USSR war that probably would of eclipsed WWII.

Also Pchan is just sad that France's military history is so pathetic.
