So one of my IRL friends told me he was interested in checking out FFXI. I told him that I'd get him a world pass so he could play with me on Quetz. So I go to buy a pass, but they're not selling the Gold pass yet. I told him I could get it now, or we can wait to get a gold pass. He said that he'd like to try right away. So after he spent all day updating, I gave him the world pass number. So there's one use.

After the maintanence yesterday, they started selling the gold passes. So I asked him if he wanted to delete his character since it was only level 3 so we could do the Gold Pass. He said he wouldn't mind. So I decide to use up the rest of the uses on my world pass so I can buy a Gold Pass. I bought another content ID and created another mule, and used up the rest of the pass. So I go to the NPC vendor to get the Gold Pass, and it says 0 uses, and it expires in 90 hours.

Why can't they issue me a new pass when it has 0 uses left? I now have to wait the 90 hours for the pass to expire. I think this is just stupid bullshit. Why have the pass still in effect when you can't even use it? :x
 
Don't hope you mind my asking, but what's a Gold pass? I've been off the game for a day or two.
 
I was also wondering the same thing, but to answer swish its probably because they figured no one would use all the uses in X amount of time, or some moron maybe doing that for the free 10 gil each time, and SE is just trying to persuade them not to.

A gold pass is for the new adventurer program. You and your friend you use the gold pass for each get a beret. when you are both wearing them in a party your level is capped at the lowest persons so you can level with them. kind of like a mentoring program, and a way to get more people interested in FFXI and a incentive to you if you get the person to play.

Holy crap. I could lvl PLD with my friend!

What level cap is this? What're the stats? Could I use it in EXP PT around level 25-28 without getting mauled by elitists?

Oh one more thing I just thought of.. If the lowest person in said party is HIGHER than you are, will it cap you to that level? (I know this sounds stupid and I doubt SE would do this.. but it's a whim, humor me.)
 
Q) Can a Gold World Pass be used just like a regular World Pass?
A) No. A Gold World Pass can only be used for the first character created on one PlayOnline ID.

The person who gets the Gold pass recieves a different beret as the person who he signed up. The level cap is set to the person who didn't buy the gold pass.
