Hi there. I'm a blm, and a taru. I've been eyeing the sorcerer's ring (Magic attack bonus of +10 if your health is at 75% or lower). However, I wouldn't want the party to get anxious or worried that I'd die. How would you feel if you had a taru with this ring and 75% health in your pt?

I don't check gear in xp parties, so I'd never know about your ring unless you told me. I'd slap a Regen II on you if you were in the yellow but in no danger of dying. Just tell your healer to let you stay that way.

It'd be kindof difficult since BLMs usually can't maintain high MP without resting every now and then (which would = going up past 75%hp from resting) and most parties aren't up for letting a BLM take a free hit ^^; but it could be useful in some situation, I suppose..I think just going with a Diamond Ring or something would serve more use without the loss of HP, but that's just me.

I'd /poke your tarutaru corpse.

True, we do need to rest. However, with the right gear you can bring your hp down (i.e. astral rings) and then switch back to normal gear.

I had a BRD in a PT once that pulled, so he could get the LE on his ring to work. Worked out fine, but the whole PT knew the situation from the getgo.
If you're interested, I'd try it out w/ a group of friends/linkshell and see how well works, if it's great, take it to pick up PTs and let them know. If it's terrible, you've just saved some death and rr time for pick pts ;x

I am a hume that does this and have 700+ hp when yellow, which is similar to a Taru at normal hp. Most people find this acceptable. I have a blm friend called Favre who is Elvaan and he has 750+ in yellow, which is in the Taru hp ballpark. A Taru on yellow would be on about 530-550 which makes it very precarious. Most Taru's I know wouldn't go for it as it makes them too one-shottable. I feel it's more a non Taru thing, but it's your choice, but be prepared to die a lot^^

you use hp>mp gear swap in, depending on the type of mob you're fighting it can be just fine. actually i know a few blm who got zenith gear just to swap in for this kind of thing. i dunno if it's worth the risk you take but it can get overly confusing for your healer. it also limits your use of drain... or more to the point makes you swap your gear back to drop your hp back after, a lot of hassle considering that extra mab is gonna draw extra hate and you'll be down hp.

The way I see this ring and a taru: You don't need all that damage, since you'll be low on HP anyways, making you more vulnerable after a MB to getting 2~3 hit from pulling hate.

And getting HP to yellow is easy.... If you have a full set of zenith.

As long as you have the gear to drop yourself down to 75% in the first place, I say go for it. Just make sure your everyone with a cure spell knows about it. One thing that does kinda suck is you can't use drain, and that is one of the better damage/mp ratios. It was also not be an option in any area with undead. So while it would be fine in my eyes, I would also not carry that as your only ring for that slot. Keep that stoneskin up.

As a BRD, I love to use my Minstrel's Ring with its latent effect (LE). When I see the situation is appropriate, I use it and notify the party. The LE gear is great, but had it's situations where it's not approprate. So be sure you have good handle on your party and how they will cover you if you grab hate.

If I don't have confidence in the party, I don't use the ring at all. I don't want to be a liability to the party by eating sand and killing exp while they are waiting for me to not be weakened. Like any gear, it has its time to use, and time to equip something else.

If you were in my pty, as long as you notified me and depending on how good the tank was at holding aggro, then I would be cool with it.

yeah my strat for Maat is going to be to poison to 75% outside the BCNM and then go in and let that latenet kick in and cast some massive spells on him, followed by a sleep/bind or w/e i feel right...

Also, it probably wouldn't work if you subbed WHM, because they get Auto-Regen, not to mention I would more than likely toss out Regen, because I'm paranoid...

I used it in xp parties from 50-about 66/67 after that got to high paced to manage. In later levels there is a lot of gear that will help you drop your health in the yellow in a split second just from the gear swap (mostly zennith gear).

I give the ring a A+ rating but untill later lvls and the right gear its a pain to maintain. i supped rdm and just kept stoneskin and phalax up and didn't have to worry about hp regening. mp goes up a lot faster then hp's when resting so with stoneskin i could poisen and rest at same time. The WHM'S were the biggest issue. I had a few good ones that worked very well with it. If i yanked hate they kept the perfect cure on me (usually a cure 2/3) to keep my health low and give me some cusion for some free mp ticks back that my heath could be yellow when done.
