Would you take a lvl 20 SMN with no aviators?

I have been thinking of lvling my summoner so I could sub it with my WHM so I could have more MP and have auto refresh at lvl 25. My main problem is that all I have is carby. I tried to fight the others but I died several times and frankly I do not want to waste any more gil on these fights. So would yall take a lvl 20 summoner with no other summons then just carby that would help out the WHM in healing people in Qufim? I know I sound like a dink for asking this but I been wondering if it would be possibe considering the bonus of having this as kick but sub that may help out parties in my lvl 50 range.
 
Oy Please go get your avitars! It's a pain in the ass but even if you're only leveling it for a sub, if you don't get at least some avitars you'll make the rest of the summoners look bad! Frankly it's a rut we're trying to get out of besides even if it's only your sub you've still got to play it in parties and you are really jipping your parties out of the full potential of the job. At least go get Garuda if you're not going to do the rest, maybe Ramuh or Shiva also...They're great in Qufim. :cry:

My advice.. if you don't want to get the other avatars.. why not just solo? go to korr. tunnel and use carby to solo EM~T worms til you hit 24 then head over the qufim and solo worms there as well... other than bst summoner is probably the best solo class in the game
 
A person in my LS (Marael) leveled her summoner to level 33 with just carbuncle and got parties just fine. And she's still an excellent summoner, I would put any summoner like her in my pt anyday
 
If the summoner has a whm sub, I would always take them if we have a free spot. They wouldn't waste a whm spot, but I think they would be very useful still with their cures. I haven't partied much with summoners though. Sabia, we still have to get partying!!!!

Other than that though, the only class I would probably be opposed to letting in is a Beast master. They're a solo job. I liked the topic though...lol. Is it really spelt aviators? or avatars? lol. Because I'm thinking planes when I see aviators..hehe

lol It's Avatars. Aviators is a fancy term for pilots, though i think its more in reference to military pilots.
 
Its avatars. Sorry for the confusion :oops: Anyway thanks for the input. I will consider all of the suggestions. I did try to solo in that one tunnel I forget the name. The worms were too hard for me so I may need to try Highlands or Dunes. As far as soloing the avatars I lost to Titan several times. He has a stamp on my butt that reads "Property of Titan" LOL. Anyway I might not lvl smner or may do so. I wanted to see how others felt if I did try to lvl it with just carby. I do plan to fight the avatars with a party of 60+ but thats going to be awhile. Later.
 
Hey Dodge, I've done all the low level Avatar battles and if you ever want any help or suggestions I'd be glad to help you out. I'm sorry if I come off as kinda pushy but before this board I would lurk in the shadows of the FFVault summoner boards and the ones on Alakazam - and frankly they're not all that positive. It's even starting to creep up on this board (see the "Jobs you hate the most" post). I really, really, REALLY love this job and have a tendancy to worry about the way that other people see it since a majority of people I talk to about the summoner (even fellow summoners) are so negative.

So anyhow...Like i said if you need some help just look me up and I would love to help you out! I found a rather cheap strategy that seemed to work on everyone but Ramuh really well. I suppose you can get away with being a "healer" but you really end up sucking as one until lvl 22 (with only cure I until then) and the job gets really cool at about level 25 when you get the group blink ability with Garuda.

Its np Sabia. I have heard some yell and complain about SMNer and some say thats all they want to be and are happy with it. As for me I do not pay much attention to the people whineing and complaining about how others play. I believe its as simple as this, THEN DON'T PLAY WITH THEM THEN. I know I complain also but it feels good to get things off your chest. Well with that out of the way I would appriecate your suggestions. I have wasted alot of gil on fighting Titan alone. I even thought I was doing good till he started doing his 2 hour. Anyways the only ones I would care to get are: Shiva, Guarda, Ifrit, Ramuh, and Titan (cause its a revenge thing now :wink: ). Like I said I may not lvl smner or I may do so. I am undecided about it. BLM as a sub has its perks also. If the BLM is unable too escape us out then I will do it. Later
 
Okay Dodge I did some digging and this is pretty much the strat I used

The gear I went in with was the Black Tunic, Hermit's Wand, Mage Sandals, Two Energy Earrings, Jutice Badge, Windy Ring (another one of your choice), and Black Slacks....The Hermit Wand is the one that you're absolutely going to need. There is nothing worse than getting an inturrupt when your summoning carby...

Make sure that the minute the Avy kills carby and you're at the bottom/top re-cast him right away! The only time you should be anywhere near the avy is when you are doing your SL, other than that stay as far away from the avy as possible! Like I said with this battle plan I only had problems with Ramuh....He's just damn mean! I took titan/ifrit on my first try. Always fight the Avy's on their weak day or on a light day when carby is stronger....I hope this helps...if it doesn't go so well, or if you have any other questions just shoot me a /tell in game.

About the worries I have with this job, my main concern is not getting invites 30+, I think I play a pretty good Summoner and have done all the reading/practicing I possibly can. When you end up with people bashing the job class on boards/chat rooms people stop giving summoners invites.
 
Ok thanks Sabia. I will try it out sometime :). I am trying to get WHM to level 60 before I go on vaction in August. So I might not try it real soon but I appreciate the help.

yeah i was planing on getting mine 2 either 25 for the mp regen or 30 for the extra mp boost for my red mage (go red mages!) ibut see i also wanna get my avatars doing the high lvl battles but i decided i will swallow my pride and get garuda and shiva solo because they seem 2 help out pretty well
 
GET THEM ALL!!! you are SEVERLY gimped without them. you know why there are level 20 battles? BEFORE!!! you had to go kill the avatar as a level 65+ character, now, would you rather raise a job past the 60's just to get avatars when they made it MUCH easier just to go in and kill them. be greatful because of this thing they added. get your avatars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


but o no, the cost is to great, summoning is a pretty cheap job. buy little pieces of armor here and there that add mp and stuff. BIG WHOOP DI DO. once you have the avatars and all that mp that comes with the job, your fine, im a 49 rdm and i STILL wear full RSE, the only really expensive part of your life are these little fights. i got news for you, THATS CHEAP. so what? 20k a fight? 30k? i buy dispel 70k a new sword cost 20k each one of my spells cost 20k andi get hit with a new spell every 1-2 levels, and often, i get 2 spells that level, once i had 4 spells, then i have to buy the same mana boosting equip as you, i got my astral rings my earings my hairpiece my sword. but then, i also have to buy int and mnd bonuses, got my red cape and alot of the gear ibuy adds mnd or int + mp. DO NOT COMPLAIN TO ME ABOUT COSTS TO MAKE YOUR JOB BETTER.
 
Hmm, I agree that Summoner is a relatively cheap job prior to level 50. However at 50 you will need over 1.5 million just to buy the austere (sp?) gear. Which other than the pants is better than the summoner AF. And then at level 51 you will need another million or so gil to buy all the staves. At least I want all the staves. From what I have been able to tell the staves knock 4 mp off a tick when you have the matching avatar out. Carby = light staff, Titan = earth staff etc. My summoner is only 47 but I tried it out with my white mage and subbed summoner 60/30 whm/smn and with only the light staff and a pineapple juice (or a ballad or refresh) I am able to keep Carby out for free. So far I have only been able to get the austere shirt and hat (was 530k) and the light and dark staff and am seriously starting to worry that I won't be able to come up with the other 600k for the feet & hands before I hit 50 :/ As for the rest of the staves... I believe they will have to remain a pipe dream for now along with that vermillions cloak... So anyway the point of my babbling is that yes Summoner may be cheap in the beginning but be saving that gil, you are going to need a ton at level 50 if you plan on making summoner your main job. Of course if you plan on subbing it I guess all of this is besides the point. Either way get your avatars, I can't stress that enough.
 
Also forgot to add, whenever I level any low level mage job I spend a ton each time I party on food. At least 20k on pies and juices. I drink them non-stop. I think this is just a huge help. But it definately adds up if you party everyday. By low level mage job I mean pre-refresh. And even if I have a bard in my party I will still drink juice non stop no matter what level I am. I absolutely love that they stack.

Oh, and I forgot about the new himmel stock (staff) last I saw it was up to 250k... If I remember correctly It's level 40. +60 mp

Chill out it was a question. There are people that wonder this. There are some that go ahead and do it. There are several that go to later levels with just carby. There are some that are nice enough to ask. There are some that like to be rude and answer in harsh tones. Anyway my point is this is not under Flame Boards. Please be considerate and answer in a nicer tone. Just say I like my summoners in my party to have all their avators. Now see thats not so bad :). I think attacks should be under Flame Boards. People are just trying to ask questions and learn here.
