One way to provide additional account security is to use a token given to the account holder who's use would be required to login to POL. If given the option, would you buy a token to secure your FFXI account? The token would be of nominal cost, say, USD $5. In exchange, you would have a device that would give you an additional password to your account, as it changes every 30 seconds, or a 'hardware key' that you put into your USB port that POL would look for as a second factor of authentication, providing extra account security.

WoW considering a FOB?

Know how to use your computer, and accept the fact that any time you give your account info out is a chance to lose all your stuff.

If you can do those two things, this additional security is completely useless.

wouldnt it make it imposible for those who play their friends characters when they are needed for, but cant make, events and whatnot?

Lots of ppl share accounts very successfully, something like this would make it impossible to do if they live in different places.

I cant remember hearing about an account actually being hacked, just ppl screwing friends over.

But if your REALLY worried about someone stealing your FFXI account then $5 is a small price to pay to put your paranoia to rest ^^.

It's not a bad idea for those who are paranoid or the not so computer savy, but all in all meh, kinda silly to me.

Extra security would be nice, but I'm not sure of an actual need for it. 99.99% of accounts that are stolen/hacked are because they gave their information to someone else. If there was a hardware component it would cut down on the accounts being stolen/hacked because of the impracticability of passing around that hardware device; but then that's not really anything in the way of security. If you did pass it around they could still steal your account since they have the hardware thing and there'd still be nothing you could do about it, so overall adding it wouldn't do much.
