This is why I hate computers.. cause I am ignorant. ; ;
I have seperate drives.. one for music/movies.. one for documents/pictures.. ones for games.. and my main (windows) one.

See I did this for spaceing capabilities. But.. I think I understand why I lag during pt's.. why when I zone, people get a FULL block ahead of me...
Seperation of Windows and FFXI by an entire hard drive.

When I enter the game.. and that really pretty CS shows up?
Yeah.. never seen it right. When it shows the town from an aerial view, just before the attack? it hovers there.. then you hear the explosion.. then 2 seconds pass... THEN you see whats going on.. the video ends up with the visual about 10 seconds behind the audio ; ;
Is this true? I know NOTHING about computers aside the absolute basics.. my room mate does all the pc work for me. I know how to make a ghost image! yeah.. thats the extent of my cpu knowledge.

I also cannot use model viewer.. cause it checks C.. my game drive is D

I only borrowed a DVD drive to install.. I no longer own it.. is there ANY way I can fix this besides uninstall/reinstall? ; ;

I wanna see the opening CS.. I dont wanna have to face a wall in 1st person while I pt (as a mage).. I wanna use model viewer.. and I wanna try out these map things >.>

k lol buy a CP card if u got dirvers for ffxi and windows
it will remove even windows load up

and have ffxi on a back up drive and then instal POL viwer and then just dump the ffxi files in the right places
hope i helpd

Honestly the best thing to do is reinstall FFXI onto the same hard drive as Windows.

I do have a couple of questions though, why the two drive set up? Also how old is the PC if it does not have a DVD drive in it? You may be having a problem not because of the two drive set up but just because of the power of the PC you are using. What type of a graphics card are you using and do you have a stand alone sound card or an integrated sound card?

I have a feeling the two seperate drives is slowing you down a little but it is likely a combination of the two drives and the limitations of the PC that are causing your problems.

Actually i have a dual HDD setup with windows installed on the smaller driver and all App's installed on the larger HDD.

The theory behind the dual HDD setup is that it will run faster since its not accessing everything from one drive... it has the cache from both HDD working to load programs docuemtns music etc.

Also i built the PC about 4 years ago and i don't have a DVD drive either :)

One other thing, to get your Model Viewer to work, you can change the path it looks at.

Under: File > Final Fantasy XI Folder. You can just change that path to have D: instead of C:.

4 years is pretty old for a PC, what is the processor speed and type? Also how much RAM do you have on the PC? I don't think it is the Dual HDD set up that is the main cause of their problem, I think it is a combination of the outdated PC and the Dual Drive System. There is nothing wrong with running Dual HDDs but if you are just running Windows and FFXI and nothing else I wouldn't expect to see a huge performance boost from it, and depending on how much RAM the system has and what kind of video card/video RAM it has there may be no benefit at all, in this case.

Also in the last 4 years read/write times for HDDs have improved, maybe not by leaps and bounds but all of the little things add up especially when trying to run newer programs on an older machine.

Edit to clarify: What I am trying to say is it may be a good idea to leave other programs and music files on the seperate drive, but move FFXI onto the hard drive that has the Windows O.S. on it.

If you are getting problems with ffxi on a seperate hard drive from windows, the problem will get worse having them on the same drive unless there is something defective with your game drive. I use too have two seperate hard drives for my gaming rig for a long time and it works fine. That isn't your problem. It sounds more like you have the wrong video card drivers or just really weak hardware.

1.1Ghz Processor
1.2Ghz Ram
256MB GeForce 3d graphics card..
Above and beyond the system specs for XI.. far.. far above.
I dont have a DVD cause I have a CD and CD-RW.. never needed a DVD.. can't afford the money right now.. I only work a few months a year, just turned 18 so now I can get a REAL job... as is I'm about to be de-activated on FFXI for a few days ._. but oh well :p Thanks for the advice.. if I uninstall, I guess I'm gonna lose some info.. what all will I need to replace? if anything.

BEWARE: make sure to copy win.ini and win.cfg when uninstalling with the FFXI disc, you can also just use add/remove and skip around it. Kyp's pc took a dirt-nap for a week before we figured out that these files are changed with the installation/uninstallation and occasion FF decides to add a unique key [player name] = your name here. During uninstallation, upon removal with disks it removes those files due to them being modified during installation.

As you can imagine Win.ini and win.cfg are quite important to windows.

You cant have 1.2 ghz of ram, and 1.1ghz processor is very slow....A vid card can be 256mb, but might not support pixel shaders and ect, so what is the exact hardware? If you know....Give names

:P at least explain the difference between ghz and gb ... oi ... vague smartass responses ftw

You're right you can't have 1.2 ghz of ram, however you can have up to 4 Gigabytes of ram on a (admittedly) nice motherboard that can handle that sort of expansion. 1.1 ghz processor is slow, but it's adequate to run FFXI. Minimum specs are for an 800mhz processor. :)

As far as the processor, if you've got the money you can get things in the range of 4ghz, mine is 2.0 and handles this game EXCEPTIONALLY well.

On another note, some boards allow mix and match ram sticks, so you can have 1068, plus 256(technically 254.) which would be 1.2ish.

Why do I have to explain? She probably looked at the wrong thing and thought it was RAM.

It just kinda came off assholish, i'da figured you'dve at least said not "not ghz, gb" but meh

I dont think im here to be an asshole....I just wanted her to post the exact names like "AMD 64 3000+" so that we could help her more. There are LOTS of 256mb cards that play FFXi rather shitty...

i prolly just read it in my head wrong .. rough day. You're bang on about everything else, we computer nerds need specifics! gotta know about the specifics of the innards before you can diagnose from behind a monitor. :)

Psh I aint a computer nerd lol, its not that hard to understand PC parts if you've built a PC before though.

If you've built a PC you're a computer nerd, sorry bud.

ya ok, you're retarded.

Do you have any idea how easy it is to build a PC? Im far from a nerd
