WoW is coming out today, and a few people I know are leaving for it. For those of you who have it/did beta. What is the combat like? How would you rate it compared to FFXI? Worth gettting? The graphics kinda bugged me, but I just read about PvP arenas...something I wish they had in FFXI, anyway, I'm looking for info from someone who's played it. Compare and contrast with FFXI. Thanks ^^

hmmm are you restricted to certain jobs with certain races? how does the ability sytem work? I only played WC 2, 3 I didnt like so much.

Hmmm I was lookin at the site, and it looks good, I think I"ll have to try it out. One additional question, if something pops up does it crash the game (like here)?

It's settled, I'll have to get my gurbby little mits on this game. It can be windowed ^^ pop-ups can no longer harm me!

Also the Gnomes are wicked cute.

Some races are restricted to certain classes, for example, Paladins are only open to Dwarf and Human, while Shamans are restricted to Orc, Troll and Tauren.

As for multi-tasking, you could Alt+Tab out of the Demo with no ill effects.

On another interesting side note, WoW is split into two factions; The Horde (Orc, Troll, Tauren, and Undead) and the Alliance (Human, Night Elf, Dwarf, and Gnome) and if you have a friend in the opposing alliance you could not send /tells back and forth. At least again in the beta.

I didn't get to much into the craft side of things so I'm not one to look to for answers there.

Dying is interesting too, instead of the FFXI homepoint kind of situation, there's a ghost plane kind of set up; where when you die, you can choose to respawn and take the XP hit, or wander as a ghost and jump back into your body with no loss of XP. And, instead of setting a homepoint, your ghost or body will return to life/un-life by the nearest grim-reaperesque figure.

www.wowvault.ign.com has a quick and easy run down of all the classes and races.

Actually I was reading up on it all, I think i'll go Gnome(Taru) Rouge (THF). When you die, your items take damage, and you have to pay to get them repaired. And teh crafting is cool, there's enginer, (this one interests me, you can make sheep bombs) and other standards....probably get it after thanksgiving break, unless i take my comp with me =P.

The PvP seems pretty cool too, but I digress. I'mma havta find out which servers my friends are playing on and go there.

I'm tempted by it, I admit . . . but I just got back on the FFXI horse this month and I'm not going to jump ship all over again right away . . .

After all, Sabia needs a whole bunch of Subligar wearing dirties dancing at her and Swishe's wedding

So you're back in FFXI?

And I'm not saying anything about jumping ship, I just want a more "casual" MMORPG to play, like when I have an hour or so inbetween work and school, well we all know that you can't play FFXI for an hour. But I hear you can do ok in WoW with just an hour. Therefore I'd be playing both. Lol Taru THF and Gnome Rouge....I'm pigion holin' my self. =P

I was playing a Troll Rogue back in the beta and he was all kinds of cool.

I can completely relate to the desire for a less time intensive game, from what I got playing the beta, WoW offers a good single player experience, and lvling is fairly easy since my time was limited I didn't get to much in the way of a team experience except for the odd dance around the fire.

see thats' sorta what I'm goin for, a simple online game. Most single player games have lost their sparkle that draws me to them. I love being able to chat to people. And FFXI is great! I love it! I finnaly stopped getting lame ass PTs. But my THF is gonna be 55 soon, and we all know what means from here on out it's 20k+ a level. So I just want a nice little distraction that I can log on and play for however long and not feel gimped. Not to mention the current trend of prices on our sever is making me sick. Seems like pretty soon I won't be able to afford anything, and the game's economy will hit a depression, I"ll have stacks of cash and it'll be worthless. I just wish I knew someone who go the collector's edition of WoW so i could use that spiffy guest pass and try it out
Anyway, next time you're in game DS, drop me a tell ^^

I can I can . . . hehehe I have created a new moniker for myself as the sig says . . .

as for not being able to afford anything, you could always seek with an onion knife equipped and blame the gil sellers before throwing on something more Thiefy . . . just for a lark
:D

lol. I just found out the coolest thing about WoW, they have RSM, race specific mounts, and Gnomes get a robot-chocobo!

Rouge is makeup and the PvP arenas are not yet implemented, FYI.

You can always entertain yourself dueling, or running around with /pvp on or just playing on a PvP server until they are.

I played an Undead Rogue up to 10 or so before trying out the Hunter. Sneaking around was a lot of fun, but the melee combat didn't have the oomph I was looking for.

Please elaborate, what do you mean by "oomf" like is Rouge weak? And I"m aware of the PVP situation....is Hunter expensive? like RNG here? Any details would be great. ^^

the combat is really standard fare from what I've seen, point click, watch them attack.

The Rogue combo system was interesting, where you build up levels using one skill and then release a more damaging combo attack.

On the note of sending /tells to friends in opposite factions (an alliance person sending a /tell to a horde person [or vice-versa] for example) I have been told that it is not possible until one LEARNS the "language" of the opposite faction. The means of learning the language is something I do not know, as well as if this is true or not.

I also like the fact how mages (blm) have all the teleport spells
