WTF is with all these fucking galka mages lately? Let me clue you guys in. If you don't have a level 75 job and capped mp merits your mp is going to suck period. Lets take a galka BLM for example the amount of mp gear needed wont make it up that your nuke are going to be weak because we lack INT. Seriously if you want to be a mage make a mule sell your stuff from your galka and level that mule. You're wasting a race that isn't meant to be a mage. I understand that you think galkas are cool so do I, but do you think you're helping over all exp with the gimp damage from your nukes the resistance rates of enfeebles being higher because low mnd/int? Not to forget the down time would be unbearable because we simply don't have enough mp to keep up constant chain 5s. You are only hurting yourself and experience parties. Look into mnk war or someting that is melee orientated. I want to cry every time I see a galka mage leveling that doesn't have a 75 and merits.

Meh, in pre-75 I'll take a galka mage who knows wth he's doing over a taru (or w/e race) that doesn't have a clue. 75+ you can merit to make up the difference to a certain extent, as you pointed out. =P

Fluffers... nuff said.

Fluffers is merited he has jobs at 75.

If they're skilled I'll take them, but what are the odds of that happening? Is it honestly that hard to be a mage? Sit back cast, but galkas have restraint on what they can do. Hell when I got raise on PLD I had to have an MP head piece to get enough MP to raise and I was using astral/ether ring with some other minor mp+ stuff. I just don't see a big point in being a galka mage if you haven't got a merit because the MP pool is drastically low and the int/mnd doesn't stack up to that of Elvaan Hume and Mithra (I wont be THAT obvious, crazy tarus). They could be useful in doing something else like oh I don't know leveling a tank job seeing as though I have seen shout bitchathons over no tanks available.

I don't know that I've seen a galka level a mage job as their first to 75 (I'm sure they're out there though lol). But yeah I think that the knowledge needed to do well as a galka mage is, in most cases, only attainable through already leveling at least one job to 75 so I think that it goes hand-in-hand with the ability to merit.

No harder (or easier) than any other job I suppose, tanks included. =P I do think that each job has it's challenges though. I think the "hardest" jobs I've played so far are rdm and nin, but they're not so much hard (so far) as they are busy.

Tanking is hard. Holding hate becomes a task at higher levels and it becomes a task that makes you pissed off so you stop trying. NIN isn't hard it does keep you busy which I like because I don't really care for meleeing because it's sit back and let auto attack do it's work.

I'd imagine holding hate can be difficult at higher levels. I agree with you on enjoying keeping busy (<3 rdm).^^

There are definitely very difficult aspects of mage jobs that are certainly comparable with trying to keep hate. Rdm and whm...well it's pretty obvious why these can be challenging. Blm may not seem that challenging but it has it's difficulties too, especially when the lives of a whole party or alliance rely on you hitting that stun macro at the right time! ;)

Can't speak for lvl 50+, but I have a Galka WHM friend who has done very well as he's made sure to gear himself appropriately to make up for the stats he lacks.

Also, in the majority of parties, players that select races that excell in the stats which their job relies on, often have very gimp gear (meaning not even the "average" priced gear appropriate for their lvl). These people still party, and probably hinder the partie's performance moreso than a Galka mage type would.

So telling a player that they shouldn't play a specific job because their race might have poor stats is kind of pointless, if they can make up for it in gear.

A Galka BLM fully equipped and unmeritted isn't going to do as well as an equally full geared unmeritted Tarutaru BLM, but I very much doubt its going to be as bad as you make it out to seem.

galka mages are good. As a BLM, for an example, you rarely use all of your MP every fight unless you want to end up tanking. So Galka BLMes re good unless they're completely moronic. Additionally, they have better INT then elvaans, so why not flame Elvaan BLMes?

Galka WHMes can be awesome too. RDMes aswell. You don't need merits, you just need to spend more time obtaining good gear, and have higher IQ than your average vacuum cleaner.

Speaking of properly gearing a Galka to be a mage, their RSE is awesome for making up for their lack of mp. I agree with you about the mp pool as well. At least in xp parties, I rarely got low on mp especially in higher levels.

Totally agree. There are plenty of good Galka mages.

Skill > Gear > Race

So, I guess I don't see what there is to flame, especially considering it boils down to what someone else does with their $12.95/month.

It's crazy, and I was thinking this was a game, ment to be played and enjoyed ><

There is something about a hulking brute being smarter then your average pear, or about a wee one tanking and protecting an entire party from enemy assualt ; )

Sure it might not be the best of stats but it's a sight, look past efficiency every once in a while and realize it's ment to be enjoyed.

I am going to agree with the OP about playing a job that your race was not meant to play. I, myself is an elvaan 75whm and 75blm. Had I known that I would play a blm I would have chosen a different race. Why? Sure we get RSE, but lets see which pieces I actually use.. RSE2 hands? lvl 62 55MP +4INT (i think?). No, not when you can use A.hands, which of course any race can use. RSE2 feet? lvl 62 30MP +3INT. No, cuz I got Rostrums (30MP +3INT +3MND) which once again any race can use. Lets see for whm, standard gear, nobles, blessed, zenith, all of which any race can use. So no my gear has not equalized the demerits of being elvaan. Even if I had all the gear I want and finish merits (INT, potencies, skill, MP), a taru can obtain that same gear and merits and therefore i'd be no better off.

So if i agree with the OP, why don't i level a melee? i got a 74 drk, and god i hate melee jobs; i really like mage jobs, so i levelled my mithra mule until i realized how pain it would be to redo all quests, mission and other crap to get my char where it is now.

I've always had good expirences with galka mages in the past maybe it's because there are not too many D: One thing I do notice with each galka mage I've been with is they really know how to manage their mp pool. Sure, lack of mp is a handicap in the magic world but the past mages I've been really know how to conserve. Just recently on my drg I've had a chance to lvl with Milgard on his blm. He was nuking just fine dmg wise, kept up the enfeebling and still had enough mp left over.

The argument about INT for galka is kinda meh. I think elvaan rank worst in INT and their MP pool isn't much better than a galka's. Not dissing races just stating what is. Raes will tell you :\ he gets mad when I search out for taru melee because I think they are so cute with their little axes and back flipping monks *_*!

Besides... Galka's in WHM AF look like pajamas which is soooo adorable so that's a win <3

What are the odds that someone that doesn't know what they're doing have the appropriate gear? No one should be burning their MP each fight. That is slowing down the group. If they are then an adjustment needs to be made for the party. What newb has the money to be buying astral rings? A lucky drop on a BC/NM or buying gil? What are the chances of a newb BLM conserving MP? I am sure some of them studied the jobs, but what are the odds of them just diving into the game?

I'm not saying all galka mages are bad. I have had good experiences with some Fluffers being one of them. I'm just saying it is a bad thing that there is so many when the race is obviously geared for other things. I love the diversity, but in the past 2 days or so I have seen alot of Galka mages leveling. There isn't enough gear slots to give the mp and stats needed to compensate for the general flaw of galka for not being more geared for mages. Gear that gives mp/stat tends to be a small amount.

If SE didn't want certain races to be certain jobs, they wouldn't have allowed it. Simple as that. If the player is good enough, they can perform a job just as good as any other race in my opinion, especially if they have the gear to substantiate it. Elvaan's might have the most strength and tarus the most mp, but when it comes down to managing hate when necessary or managing mp thats more on the players side than anything.

That said I'm a firm believer in skill > gear > race.

You could be merited to the max, have the best gear in the world and be a tarutaru rdm and still not be able to cast all spells and keep spells up like you should. I'd much rather have a galka RDM who knows his job, does it well, and knows how to manage his mp and keep people alive and hasted than a tarutaru who leveled RDM as a taru thinking they're the best mages, got easy xp parties to 75, and swears in merit parties that he wont haste one person cause then he'd have to haste them all (true story :p not a taru though..)

Just my opinion on it. Before I quit there was an extremely good galka WHM (forget the name now ; ;) who was leveling in the same range as my RDM. Good gear, good skills, very positive experience with him (in fact if he was seeking we would purposely grab him over other whm seeking)

News flash: Galka's who work up mage jobs know (or at least ought to) how to gear for the job pre-75. Merits mean dick, i mean i'm sure it's great to have those tossed on and all but there were quite a few excellent galka mages around pre-merit system, they're not required by a long shot to lvl mage jobs as a galka.

Personally when i did it i got nothing but praise for it.

If you bump in to one who doesn't have these things going for them, keep the pimp hand strong, otherwise this thread is brimming with fail.
