WTF?! o.O Help prs!

Ok, I was logging off the game this afternoon. was out of the "Choose a Character" screen in in main POL menu. My foot got caught on the cord of my laptop, and it slid off the chair it was on, and fell onto the floor.

Now, for the real pain in the ass.. Everything else seems to be fine. But when I go to log into FFXI, I make it thru the POL menu to, the "Message to Our Players" screen. At this point I get a window's messge saying, something to the extent of: "Please wait, Window's is configuring FFXI for install..." i hit cancel but it pops back up.

I tried a system restore on two different previous days, and both failed. It said the System restore was incomplete and nothing was changed on the computer.

So, aside from chucking my laptop off my roof, for being a shit; do I need to uninstall and then reinstall FFXI? Has anyone had this problem before? Help prs! ><;;

i think from the 1st login screen there is a scan function, that will check your shite...maybe give that a go? /comfort
 
Before getting a new computer, try re-install. If that doesn't work. Cal POL and you'll probobly have to mess with your FFXI config maybe?
 
Shyrra had the best suggestion so far -.-

1. POL check file function didn't work. still gave me the "preparing to install" bullshit.

2. tried uninstalling the programs whole computer freezed and spazzed out on me. IDK what else to do at this point. Gonna take it to IT at school and see if they can do something about it. -.- I fucking hate technology.
 
That sucks Iso!! I was wondering why you logged off so early ><; Hopefully you can get working soon!
 
I had this happen to me way back before I quit. To be honest, if you hit cancel enough it eventully goes away and it'll let you log on (least it did for me).

I tried scanning for any missing files and after that I called POL help desk thingy and they were of no help either. I decided to live with it for a while. Game worked, just a small bit of trouble logging in.

I came back a few weeks ago to the game and played around for a friend of mine while they were on a trip. Well, after system restoring my computer and reinstalling the game completely it just magicly worked. Other people that I've talked to that had the same problem said that as soon as they were able to get rid of the program and reinstall the game, things went smoothly again.
 
This recently happened to a friend of mine. He eventually had to uninstall and reinstall everything. He wasn't to pleased hehe.
 
Did you just straight up delete the folder from C:/Program Files ?

Make sure to say no when they ask you if you want to delete the .dll files. :nono:
 
Stuff you download during PoL updates I think. Dont wanna update again do you? O.O :shok:
 
well, i had to manually go in and delete everything. now it's uninstalling and reinstalling now. IDK if i deleted teh update files, but idc at this point. -.- i just want my computer to stop acting like a douchehat -.-
 
At this rate, Iso will be back around the same time I will! lol sorry Iso, had to do it. But if you just reinstall the core files, like your doing, that should fix it. Don't delete the update files, cuz that'll be around 4 years worth of updates you'll have to DL again...I think.
 
Lol, well somemore funny news about my crappy laptop:

I deleted all the files for FFXI and POL manually. Then I threw in the CD's and uninstalled and reinstalled POL. Well when I opened POL there wasnt anything in there.. kinda just like a blank blue screen. Didn't think much of it, and tried putting in one of the FFXI install disks. it said it had to uninstall as well, but froze on me. So I shut down the program and shut down the computer. Igotoreboot one more time, and as i typein my password, windows opens. My background is there but everything else on my Desktop is gone! O.O;; Nothing is on my screen now. Taskbar is gone, all my icons, nothing will load. ><;; so I guess I'm taking the piece of shit to IT today, and they'll have to either work some vodoo magic to make it work, or reformat this pieceof shit. /sigh... this fucking blows chunks -.-;;;


So how was everyone else's weekend? o.O;

Sorry do hear about all your troubles Iso... Yes, does sound like they will have reinstall everything. Hope you had any important stuff backed up.. Hang in there, I'm sure IT will get it working again.
