A member of my static wasn't going to be able to pt again until Monday so we all decided to lvl by ourselves to 49 by Monday night. Last night then me and my fiancee (THF) get together a PT with some other people and head out to Quicksand Caves.

So here we go, THF, THF, WHM, RDM, NIN, PLD (not the best pt set up but at this point I'll take what I can get early rather than looking for pt with thf friend and getting pt at 8 only to have to go not too long afterwards.) Out to altepa, out to Rabao, then QC. I have about half my mp from warping and teleporting people and sneaking them to Rabao (starting to get a little pissed about people not having sneak oils now..) so we all run in, set up camp, and I run a little ahead to see where the other party is, what kind of mobs are sitting around, etc, and I turn around to see the RDM following me. I think, wtf? ok.. maybe he's just checking shit out too. So I run back to camp, and I see on my screen ...

RDM: Pulling Antican Signifier <annoyingnoise>

I have no buffs casted on anyone, no reraise on me, half my mp, no protect shell blink, no food eaten yet, NOTHING. I should WTF ARE YOU KIDDING ME and lo and behold here comes the RDM back up the path with an Antican in tow.

Awesome.

So I protect everyone, shell everyone, then run back to a safe spot and start casting regen on pld, etc.

I get down to about 250MP, Antican isn't even a quarter dead yet. We are getting sleeped, silenced (i had my echo drops go me) .. RDM is melee'ing.
Now I'm down to about 100MP, and lo and behold the RDM finally casts refresh on me. (Had only casted it on himself before that about a minute before) I rest about as much as I can before I have to get up and heal again, and ask the RDM to please help me heal. I start healing again, and the RDM pops a cure IV, therefore grabbing hate. We all get sleeped, he gets hit, and bolts for the door (he was pretty much dead meat at this point..) instead of maybe throwing a cure on me or the pally so we can pull everyone else out of sleep. He was gonna die anyway, why he couldn't just do that is beyond me. Antican follows him to the zone, whacks him dead, and comes back for me.
I take three hits (two while fleeing) and get whacked.

I dont know how but from a gift from the Star Sybil the rest of the pt beats the antican.

DOUBLE Y00 TEE EFF.

After getting raised by someone from the other pt I checked him. He has lvl 25 armor on (and crappy stuff for that) and no hand armor and no waist armor. wtf.

Dudes name is sangoku or songoku or something. The rest of the time we ptd togethter (there were no other mages available at the time trust me i was looking) he fought like he had just gotten the job. He converted in the middle of a battle while he still had 250 mp left (Which took away from helping me heal when needed because he was too busy healing himself and dont give me the rdm isnt main heal when you're the only other mage in the party you CAN HELP THE WHITE MAGE OUT A LITTLE BIT) . He was subbing summoner (look, it just seems like a real shitty idea to me)..

I just had to get it out. The guy isn't an asshole, he knew he made a mistake, and maybe with another job I'd pt with him again, and maybe i just dont know the RDM job that well, but somene who has a clue needs to smack the shit out of this guy.

And he gave me the "i dont have time to farm" line when i asked him abotu his armor.

Anyone who has time to get to lvl 49 has time to farm. psh.
 
That really sucks... until you reached the name I was thinking, oh man, don't let this be the crappy rdm I've had problems with.... but then you mentioned the name. Yeah, I don't know why but I think if a red mage is going to melee, they should also take into account, they do have a mp pool to use so they should be using it! I mean, having a red mage that doesn't refresh is like me not wanting to burst... I mean, we can get by but it's more efficient if its done that way. My stupid rdm had a freakin NINJA sub while partying. He wouldn't refresh unless asked and barely threw a cure on the tank.....this was when we only had a rdm and a blm in the party. No other healers.. *sigh*

But back to your situation... ya, that really sucks when no other mages are present. I've hit a bad streak of rdms lately. No convert, no refresh, no dispel even. I mean, I didn't know such bad mages existed. And it's true, you should have enough time to farm for your equipment at that level AND be able to learn how to do your job properly or be open to some, possibly harsh, criticism.
 
Classic case of a crappy person. Happens in all the jobs all the time. If you ask me, just be glad they are there to make you look good. ^^
After some crap like that, I would kick him and blist, because ANYTHING he has to say would be in my opinion not worth my time.

About sub... nothing wrong about a rdm subbing smn. Since rdm learn both blm and whm spells subbing blm or whm is pointless except for slightly higher int or mind. You get a few low level ga spells and erase with whm, tele at higher level, and with blm you get escape, warp, level 1 ga elemental spells and drown ect. spells. Most rdm go blm because of int, and I always went blm more because of escape and warp :P

smn doesn't give much in the way of extra spells, but you do get a nice mp bonus, higher int AND mind (though not as much), strong clear mind and auto refresh. I've even seen rdm/brd work well, since you can cast the first ballad to pump up your refresh. Unlike other classes rdm have a far less restriction on subjob choices.
 
BLM has definitely gotta be the best choice, but not only.

Conserve MP, Aspir, and the power to boost nukes are invaluable. Also helps your sleep and debuffs out.
 
Unfortunately, until 50/25, smn isn't too great of a subjob (as the mp boost it gives will hardly outgo the boost /blm or /whm would). At 50/25 you'd get Auto-Refresh, making it considerably better for a sub, and at 60/30 you get an additional max MP boost...but before then, it's pretty bad for a sub..

And yeh..whats the deal with the high-levelled morons running about lately? Just last night this WAR/THF (...eh?) kept making -_- faces each time we killed mobs easily (chain 5 for 286exp....he goes -_-), he eventually splits because he hates the exp. This game needs like, an IQ test before you register for it or something. :roll:
 
yeah, see i wouldnt have a problem with the extra mp pool if he had actually been using his mp. but like i said, he converted at ~200 mp.. he was barely curing.. and he had no dispel, had no haste.. ><

Songoku..... I think he/she was in Crystalguard LS. But I havent seen that player for ages in it.
Cant even remember if it was that LS or another......

I know the name of another rdm that makes me disband without even saying anything.

The name is Guillotina I think... when I first was invited to pt by him/her, I checked the member info of the pt, (always do that), and see that
G-tina is the rdm.... with below 200 mp.... and 1000+ hp I think. and this pt was somewhere between 55 and 60.
I ask, "Are you really the rdm?", G-tina say "yes I am", I then ask, "Where is your mp?".
G-tina then say the most redicules thing I have ever heard from a player, "I got MP>HP gear on, and I'm subbing ninja, because I want to melee."

I was stunned by this line.. a rdm, in a pt, that subs ninja, wears MP>HP gear and only wanna melee.
I dont know how much good this would do as solo, but in pt? no thanks.


Oh, and hi folks.. dunno if anyone have ever stumbled over me ingame.

One night I was unlucky enough to have a Dunes party (/shudder) with a guy that bought his NIN off a gil seller. It was equally bad for about the first 2 hours, then got marginally better.
 
oh man now i feel like such a shit for not just disbanding the party right off the bat
 
I have never been a fan of subbing SMN. Me personaly as a WHM the extra MP and auto-MPregen never seemed to outwheigh the clear minds, conserve MP, and the usefulness of spells like Warp, Aspir, Drain, Escape.

You ain't seen shit until you see a High level anon Whm suddenly cased Stun out of nowhere! That made my head turn because there is only one way to get that spell as a sub.
 
whm/drk lol. Btw, its still painful to watch a whm solo even subbing drk.
 
One thing I have to say, is Guillotina is a good RDM if you give him a chance. I will say though, that this original post was probably referring to Deucrobont, someone who used to be a friend of mine.

Deucrobont is not only a bad RDM, but a pervert who kept saying sick things to me once he became my friend. Back when I was around Lv.40 or so, he kicked me from a party because I "let the Samurai die" now, I was out of MP and without Refresh, therefore I clearly wasn't slacking off, him, with full MP, would only cast on himself. He kicked a perfectly good WHM, for a SMN, without warning.

Another thing, was for the longest time, he had been without leg armor. It bothered the hell out of me every time I saw him, he even had the nerve to harass my friend who had been playing the game for me while I was away. Saying "I know it's you Lyrai."

He's an overall asshole, and a horrible RDM, not to mention he "claims" he is fluent in Japanese because he's half Japanese, and goes to Japan every so often. That's why he only knows a few things.

Wow... He subbed DRK?? Was it in an exp party?
 
The worst RDM I have ever pted with was Gainen. This guy was one of the reasons I had to take a break (if not give up) on PLD. This guy not only didn't refresh unless the whm and I would spam "Refresh please!!!! <call>" but would cast the En- spells on himself and melee while casting his lovely Ninja enfeeblers. Not only did he do all this but his macroes were in /say mode AT LEVEL 51!!!!!!!!! He also lotted on and got a Crawler's Nest coffer key after it was clear that the monk and the drk were the ones to get that. His reply to us asking why he did it was "I need money too, lol." Anyways, I had to rant about this guy, sorry.
 
RDM/NINs.... I swear to god I hate that combo SOOO much. I despise it to no ends because I happened to know a RDM/NIN in real life and all I can say is wow.... Now granted, the combo CAN work if you are creative, rich, and above all skilled, especialy in soloing things. In a regular EXP party however.... Whats more is the combo is typicaly used to "Show off" and look cool.

Now granted I am sure we have all heard the stories of a RDM/NIN chain 3ing offa IT mobs ore whateer the hell it is the stories say, I will believe those when I see a movie and I see what gear said person is wearing.

My RDM/NIN was 48/15 (15 is giving him credit considering he's now a 51/15 rdm/nin). The guy didn't cast any spells and was concerned about meleeing. He didn't use any of the benefits of a ninja... I mean, at least pretend you like the ninjitsu by casting Utsemuni... and cast the Element spells.. but nope. He didn't refresh, he doesn't convert... I meant, there's no skill and at that point... LEVEL 50!!!!! you should know what's expected of you.

I saw this guy trying to farm Hoo the other night.... and it killed me because there was no one else camping there... I know he can't do anything other than dia the NM and I had to go out somewhere. I could have easily taken hoo *sigh* I'm positive this rdm/nin isn't improving his skills at this time... I give him at least a month before he figures out how to play his job. A person who admits "Sorry guys I wasn't the rdm you wanted me to be" (which isn't bloody hard, enfeeb and refresh, and then do whatever you want), and doesn't fix it.....well, he's just hoping for those desperate parties (which I'm usually part of...lol) Ah well..... just my complaint as this rdm/nin REALLY sticks in my mind as a bad player.
 
As you grind your way through the 50s you will come to thhe conclusion that most people hae not improved since the dunes, you just notice it more now.
