OK,

So i've had this lovely xbox 360 since the exansion release and so here is my "review" on it. First off, i will say it is a increadable machine. The graphics are great (which is also its biggest downfall), its got a built in music player, looks good, nice controler (way better then ps2 peuny ass).

The first thing that i took notice to when i got it was that the lil lights above the numpad on my keyboard dont work >.<. Not that big of a deal, but it is always nice to know if you got caps lock on or numlock ect. That wasn't to bad, then i get into the game and OMG MY EYES!! GREAT GRAPHICS!! but it blinded me so much from being so bright i couldn't see straight anymore. after tweeking and tweeking with the gama ratios on the game and my tv settings i finally found a "decent" medium where i could at least see where i was going in darker areas (tunnels, caves) and not be blinded when i changed gear or looked at my menu bar. Its still bright, and still dark in tunnels but at least barable.

To me that shouldn't be that way. I know what the game is supposed to look like, i have it on ps2 and pc. They look normal, they aren't so bright that if i got to much +1 on it looks like i'm staring at the sun. This WAS my biggest issue but i dealt with it since i had just made a 600$ purchase MISTAKE #1. I should of taken that piece of trash back right then when i wasn't happy with it. The better graphics and the music sort of made me keep it though. OK MOVING ON!

I think the developers put WAY! to much faith in the little processor and video card in this damn thing. Any more then 6 people around you and a couple mobs and your lagging like your in a dynamis zone fighting 15 mobs with 60 people there. Last night xping at mamook staging point i could barely keep ni up to save my life. Not only do they attack really fast but the xbox lags in a different way then just skipping around like a pc does. When the xbox starts lagging it SSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWWSSSS DDDOOOOOWWWWNNNN. You feel like your at a crawl, yet the battle is still going on at normal pace. makes it easier to read the chat log for lost shadows buffs ect but damn, doesn't do you any good if you can't react fast to it.

THIS! right here has got me about ready to take a shot gun to the damn thing and send it to microsoft and tell them to fucking fix it cause thats about all its worth. Over all i'd give the new 360 a 5/10 stars for effort lol. I've got the service warrenty on it for 3yrs or whatever so i mean if its over heating maybe i should get a new one. but the thing is i dont know if it is or not lol. It just runs like utter crap in mamook area though. in a party or soloing it lags the hell and its annoying. I've gone so far as to turn off every effect possible (which they give you this option on xbox not ps2, idiots should of tunned the graphics down and left the effects option off like on ps2) and yet i am still graced with the DDDDDDDelaid reaction time.

So in my opinion after having the 360 and playing on it while i vote NO! if any of you are thinking of getting one for this game. the graphics may not be as good on ps2 but it sure as hell runs better on it and you can get one a lot cheaper. PC, even a low quality pc could run smoother then the xbox because of being able to control the graphics lvl on a pc.
If you got it for other games, thats fine but i would suggest playing ffxi on ps2 or pc. unless someone knows how to fix this lag issue i'm having in momook one of the best endgame merrit spots out atm :/

/sigh maybe the ps2 copy of the expansion is in stock now :p

funny.. i dont have any problem with my 360 lol. in fact.. i love ff on it.. and i doubt that the 360 has anything to do with your lag issues. it has a pre set max banwith thing, whatever that is. like ps2 does. you wont get the mass lag that is possable on pc. i say your connection suxxors. and 360 lives on. got to love voice chat with other friends lol.

Yeah, I have it on my 360. I prefer that over my laptop, desktop, and obviously my PS2. I haven't really experienced any of those problems.

My 360 works perfectly. I have retired my PS2. No uber brightness or graphical issues at all. I have no more lag than on my PC or PS2.

I still play on my PC over the 360. It feels weird playing on a controller and I messed up and got a compact keyboard which takes some getting use to. Besides my gen 1 HDTV doesn't have picture in picture so I can't watch television while playing anymore.

I've been playing solely on my 360 ever since I got ff on it. I've actually experienced less lag on 360 than my laptop and have chosen it as my ideal system for the high lag areas like past beseiged and dynamis.

why is it that mine runs like shit at mamook staging point merrit spot?

maybe it was having a bad day i duno. i just know that i have issues there, and i was trying to solo ose the other day and there was a party next to me and i could barely function.

which is what i ment marick. 360 has preset R and S caps. it will not go above them like ps2 will not also. while pc can go the whole ban with you have.. systems are limited.. and it has graphic of pc.. graphics and no lag.. i say perfect.. ONE THING!! recently my battle music has disapeared lol. i think i must fix it in settings lol..

Anyone know how it looks on an old CRT TV? Over here, LCDs are for rich people, nevermind HDTV. :S

mine runs awsome on my 360 i still play in pc only b/c i like to watch tv while i play but a friend of mine is hooked on the game now and wont play anything but the 360 version

I have also been having brightness problems. But i'm just going to plug my 360 into my monitor (which apparently can support HD) and see what happens. If the brightness goes then yay if not then oh well at least i can watch TV at the same time.

The only real problem I have on my television is my ability to read the chat log. That is another reason why I still play the PC version more.

The 360 is the better option for players that have their PS2s for a while right now. Because that console is old and if it breaks you will not find a new one (the HDD one i mean, it's not being made anymore). The 360 is brand new, it guarantees support for 3~4 more years. Not that many people will still be playing at that time before SE makes a new MMORPG.

I'm an Art Director and because of that I don't have a PC, I use Mac G5. I have the PS2, 360 and already reserved my PS3. My 360 is connected thru DVI in a 60" HDTV and it looks incredible (compared to the PS2). HD connections assure you the best image because you have less options to change. So you will see the games the way developers want you to see them.

The biggest problem I see the 360 really has is that it runs POL thru the DVD. When it loads you can't take it out, so i don't know how many loads the 360 make when in the game. That must be the problem when in high populated areas.

from the noise 360 makes when running FF11 (you notice it when it stops) I would say the damn DVD runs... all the time. WTF would they do something like that /sigh

But otherwise, I agree with previous posters, better graphics, less lag in high populated areas than on PC. Dynamis with 50+ is smooth, that says a lot. There are keyboard issues, music stops sometimes (battle and even the tunes). Sometimes it goes back on. It's obviously bugged but they'll fix it eventually, no biggy so far.

Xbox360 - best investment ever!

Sounds like you have some problem with you TV, not your Xbox360.
The graphics are great on my Sharp Aquos compare it with my $2000+ PC I just upgraded (benchmark3 ~5700). I don't notice this brightness you mentioned here.

Also, I have the Logitech diNovo cordless Keyboard, didn't notice the caps light problem either. Are you connecting it to your tv via component? I noticed the game description at the back it says 720p. However, I'm running it at 1080i and the graphic is astonishing (the color is excellent, especially in comparison to a PC).

I actually went the extra mile and got myself a Monster component cable. I noticed a 10~15% sharpness improvement of the images and the Dolby 5.1 sound is just amazing. This is the best investment ever. Now I'm just waiting for the HD-DVD add-on coming out arond thanksgiving

i'm not saying the graphics suck, the graphics are great but when comparing smoothness of the graphics in a battlesetting ps2>xbox takes the cake. As far as brightness goes i guess i just like it a lil darker and the xbox doesn't :/

duno, i was at my nephews house and he had a 360 also and the brighness was about the same so maybe its just not my pref.

I would guess that the televison upconverts the incoming signals to a faux 1080i.
