What a WONDERFUL way to start the weekend. At ~3:50pm est today my motherboard on my ~4 year old pc just dropped dead. The CPU fan was acting really loud, so I poked it, which has never lead to any harm. And it died. Panic mode set in, and after ripping it apart (well, just removed the motherboard tray and popped off the heatsink/fan) I realised I had no way to test any of this stuff. Thankfully, I worked in the Tech Shop at my college over the summer, and got to know the staff quite well. So I phoned up Peter, and he drove over (not like it's far from the college to my place, like 7mins walk lol) picked me and my fucking heavy pc up, and brought it over to the college, where we tested the shit out of it. So my motherboard was truely dead. It would, if we could get it to power, up would spin up the fans, beep once like it normally does, then die. So I got to borrow (this is where I again loved that I worked there) one of the colleges spare mobo's, dumped it in my case and made sure it worked, and brought it home. Fast forward to 10:30pm est, where I FINALLY got all the nvidia nforce 2 drivers out and VIA drivers in. (needed a win xp sp2 cd. I was wtf? I have sp1 only! huh? gogo bittorrent and 2 hours later) Got all the IDE and USB drivers in. Hard to use your keyboard and mouse when they are usb connectors lol. Then had to screw around to get the audio to work, but my patience pulled through (read, cursed the shit out of my pc) and got my sound back. Glee music yay music.
The upside to the mobo dying is I get to get semi-new parts! WOHOO. Gonna try and get some spare cash from my parents, cause they're cool like that and get me some of the new shit.
Sorry for the wall-o-text. Have a great weekend.
