Yay for LotR nerds!

About damn time really.

OK >_>

Last news I'd heard of this was that Jackson put his foot down and refused. The other directors listed as possibilities were absolutely fawking dismal. This, is fantastic news.

Yeah, I'm such a dork, this made my day, lol.

"A director for the prequel films has yet to be named."

He's still not directing it. Hopefully it ends up awesome.

Granted, but he'd have absolutely nothing to do with it prior to now. If he's at least on board, I have all the hope in the world.

Yeah, this is definitely good news. 2010 and 2011 are sooo far away, though.

Joblo reported that Guillermo Del Toro will direct.

If he does, this movie is going to be zebra fucking balls to the wall awesome.

prequel movies

plural. hobbit. movies? sounds likely to be absolutely ridiculous, as LOTR *would* have been had they kept the "two-movie" format as initially planned. hopefully they'll wise up and keep it a single film. bets on that "additional content added" include gandalf going to kick Sauron the Necromancer out of Dol Guldur (rubbish since we didn't get to read about the details, why should we see them?)

ON THE FLIPSIDE: i'd do terrible, horrible, unforgivable things to see some Silmarillion films. Namely, the coming of the Elves from Valinor, the Nirnaeth Arnoediad, the Dagor Bragollach and the War of Wrath.

This tarutaru would give his middle nut to see Fingolfin square off against Morgoth.

Hopefully it will be as good as his other three endeavours.

I hope this is true to the book :P as LoTR was mostly. My only gripe was no Tom Bombadil in his movies of LoTR.. I WANT TOM! he was so awesome.

You would like a movie with:

Spoiler:
There are animals of all shapes, sizes, colors, and ethnicities who are into porn, coke, and feces."

in the description....

....YUS!

Hopefully this movie turns out really good and stays true to the book unlike that horrible excuse for a movie The Golden Compass.

Nevermind all the idiotic Arwen fanservice.

Don't get me wrong, I loved the LOTR film. I just felt that all the excessive Liv Tyler pandering should have stopped when they replaced Glorfindel with Arwen.

I'm looking forward to a live-action Hobbit, but I couldn't complain if it never happened. Since The Hobbit was written as more of a children's book with a tone wildly different from The Lord of the Rings, I was content getting my prequel fix from the old Rankin-Bass Hobbit cartoon.

I'm not sure why they'd want to do this as two movies (other than money-money-money-money), but of course I'll buy my ticket to see Smaug come to life.
