. . .yea

ok...?

What's so bad about it?

Losing track of students that are here to do studies. Then finding out that they jumped the boarder and pretty much had a "Oh well, they're your problem now" attitude. What's so bad? The fact that they should be expedited back to their country, not be given sanctuary. They illegally came into our country, they shouldn't be allowed to stay in it and the American government should be trying their asses off to get them back.

How are they in America illegally if they're in America to study?

I mean, they already paid for their education, no? So what's so bad about them then abandoning their studies and moving to Canada? You get your money, and you don't have to deal with them. Its a win/win situation the way I see it.

Because their studies were to be based IN America. Canada did not to a check on them and say "come study here". That's like saying "America said they could so why can't they go to Australia?" Completely different legal system. It's really not that hard to understand...

Not only that, but they got into America based on a lie. They were to study in America. Not go there in a guise just to jump the boarder over here on some loop hole.

But who cares where they study? They already paid for their studies. And who cares if they lied, they're no longer in America. Whether or not they got to America based on a lie doesn't matter the way I see it, as they don't plan to stay in America anyway.

They went to America to study, true, rereading it it was U.S sponsored, but personally I don't see what the big deal is. They were to be kicked out of US after the 3 months were up anyway. What's the big deal if they leave a bit earlier?

Because it isn't legal. . .

You have to go through paperwork in order to study and live abroad. Do you really think they're going to go back to their country after this? Probably not. Who cares if they lied? Everyone should. The only reason they were allowed entry into America was to study then go home.

I don't see the big deal about it >_> US gets this happening everyday. Canada's first time? :P

lol. Yes the US does, the problem I see here is that the US Government seems ok with it. Then again, I guess the Mexican Goverment doesn't care when Mexicans go to America, less people for them to worry about.

And Luis, you tried that joke on my yesterday. Fail.

Unfortunately Mirewen.. We don't have the money, resources, or.. really anything at all to drive our government to take control of anything that matters. But I'm one of the bitter ones. I agree. The government SHOULD do something. But they won't. They're too busy doing other "important things"..Worrying about some people jumping the border into Canada is the least of their worries.

No, it isn't legal. But I really don't see this as a big deal. You don't have to actually pay for anything else they do while in Canada.

Really, they saw it as a good opportunity for them to flee their country. Its obvious they didn't like Afghanistan, and they knew they were getting sent back there by the US government at the end of their 3 months. Its really not that uncommon for people to flee their country in pursuit of something better. It happens every day. I'm not saying its good, but its not exactly worse just because they signed a paper to study and then GTF out.

If Canada want to harbor them, that's their problem. I'm guessing that's why the US government don't really care about it, they're not their problem anymore. And it happens every day, so why put resources in to stopping these, when many others do it as well?

What they did is lol. And yes, once they start living here and seeking help (because you cannot have a job here without a work visa) they start costing tax payers money.

Saying "lots of people do it" as an excuse, that's just sickening.

Oh, you're Canadian. That'd explain why you're so against it. I thought you were from the states.

As much as the US is lax about it, so is Canada for that matter. Had they not wanted them in their country, they could easily deport them back to the states. Guess Canada wanted to increase their population by 4. >_>

Yea because our population is less than the population of L.A. :p

We also have a diverse population as well (which is awesome) so someone coming here form anywhere in the world will find a group of people to fight for their right to stay. While that is a great thing, the last thing any country needs is more people that are unable to contribute to the economy in a positive way.

We have people here in the states who have kids for the sole purpose of being able to live off of the welfare system and not get a job. Not to mention we have hundreds of thousands of people in this country illegally.

I guess Canada just is not used to people coming in and abusing their system like us Americans are. Not to say its right to do that but there's far too much partisan bickering in our government to pass any real laws to do anything about it.

We have that too. That's why (when I was a waitress) I refused to work on "Welfare Wednesdays" because you wouldn't get tips. Sounds horrible but when you're waiting tables for minimum wage, you depend on the tips. Working your ass off for a family of 10 that treats you like their personal slave just to get $1 if you're lucky on a $100 bill... not worth it.

Don't get me wrong, there are families that work that are on welfare because it is getting harder to make ends meet so I'm not saying all families on welfare do this. This was just the experience I had in the small town I grew up in during the 4 years I was a waitress.

How does your welfare system work anyway?

I read an article in the newspaper the other day that having 2 kids at home is 3 times as expensive as having 1. In Sweden, if you get, say, $150 per month for one kid, you'd get $310 for 2, $460 for 3, and since having 2 kids is 3x as expensive as having 1, I don't see how any family could actually produce enough kids to be able to avoid working and still get enough money to feed everyone, pay rent, electricity, water etc.

I mean, with 10 kids in Sweden, you get, with today's value of the dollar, about $1594 per month. That's way less then 1 person usually make per month on a normal 9 to 5 job.

The first kid usually cost, on average, $120,000 until the day it turns 18. Having one kid usually pays you 32400 during those same 18 years. So you'd be heavily in the red after 18 years with 10 kids.

Really, I don't see how anyone could survive living on welfare costs alone.
