But this is to rant about, ironically from what's been happening, two Japanese people I partied with last night...Gulico and Velvet. It was an awesome party, they seemed nice and stuff, and it was great experience and they did stuff well...but then me and my bf hadto go, and what do they start saying, in japanese, expecting no one understands it or something? They start calling us "dumbasses who know how to ruin a party by leaving (w~)", "foreigners who can't play their own game (ww~)" (wtf? can't play their own game? whats that even mean? we stole their game or something? -_-). They made some wisecrack about us having Mentor flag, couldn't make it out....

They kept on speaking crap like that for about the 20 minutes we sat around waiting for a replace. They just said more crap when they realized me and my bf understood what they said.....really, in the past, partying with japanese people was fun, but even since I've been able to understand a little bit of it (and my bf understands much more, and he tends to translate for me), all I've seen, in the last dozen or more parties, is insults. I just don't get how if we insult them, they'll slap us, disband party, and we'll get marked by half a hundred people we don't know as some villain to society, but literally the last twenty JP parties I've been damned to join, are all full of people who spew insults about NA. Nongoddamnstop. I have no problem against them. Maybe they're just, say, the Japanese equivilent of Roofie, or maybe they're just little bastard 10-year olds, I don't know.


I dunno..I just wish that they'd knock it off, I've done nothing wrong, most of us haven't, and they'll go and insult us to our face just for the fact that they think we won't catch it...just..ugh. How can you make friends in the game when they do that crap left and right..

And before anyone says it, I know a bunch of japanese players who are VERY nice, but the problem is, 95% of them are in a static, so I'm kinda stuck with the people who..are...well...assholes. And, I hate to say it, but the ratio of mean-vs-nice ones is much much worse than NA, from what I've seen.. -.-;

Well I have met 1 good egg Mentor that actually should have been given Mentor since I have been in FFXI. You are a good egg it would seem. I'm not trying to discredit the Mentor program and what it is supposed to do. I do, however, think that Mentor status should not be handed out as easily as it is.

Don't bother trying to figure out why someone is a prick. It's not like they are trying to understand you.

There are assholes everywhere ( i mean in the world and on the net). Idiocy knows no, and repects no boundaries. I have quit three linkshells simply because of the members making fun of the Japanese players in chat and the sackholders were in no way discouraging it. I don't really know exactly why there is this need to make a distinction to catagorize this electronic representation of self to something as real world as nationality. Take every player at face value and allow them to either gain more of your respect or to loose your respect.

Perhaps they had a string of 20+ groups in which they heard US players talking disrespectfully towards them. Or possible they heard countless days of being in Jeuno hearing shouts about how horrible they are. Two wrongs don't make a right but maybe it could give you a litlle more understanding.

I just hope it doesn't turn into Lineage II. I had to turn every filter on that I possibly could just to get rid of my ability to hear people talking about wanting to lynch Chinese people, etc. (Since there were a large amount of Adena farmers on the servers) It was nasty and eventually drove me away from that game. To clarify it wasn't the Adena farmers that drove me away but the way the "most vocal" members of the player base choose to react. It's a PvP game. If they piss you off gather some people together and wipe the zone.

I'm sure that most JP players would give more NA players more respect but when your first impression of NA's is this:

I'm gonna have to play devil's advocate and disagree here... An asshole is an asshole, plain and simple. Saying all japanese people are nice is a stereotype, and stereotypes are bad. It's not our fault there are some japanese assholes, and it isnt their fault that there are american assholes. I just get sick of reading "we're so bad, they're so good" posts about american and japanese players... thats all.

Response to Hamburgler - I try to have a nice outlook on everyone I meet, so I guess it'd be a "global" stereotype, not just one towards Japanese people..I try to picture anyone/everyone as nice when I first meet em, that way, well, they tend to stay on my good side for as long as possible. =P
I've probably just had really bad luck with parties...though, actually, lasty night I partied with Aquaria, she was really nice and stuff ^^; so I guess it's just some kindof luck-dealy as you said..

god damn yes NA players do... and they're right... just not polite enough to keep it to themselves... i'm AS if not MORE guilty of having to leave parties as anyone else. HOWEVER the assumption is made, if not specified upon formation you will have to leave soon, that you WILL have time and you were seeking because you did. once you don't have enough time to party, stop seeking... if you know you're gonna have to go, make sure you can have a replacement there BEFORE you have to leave. I understand if A) you weren't even seeking and got 1000 invites and eventually caved in to go party (it's gotten to the point where i get invites when i'm anon... how... why? -. - <^> ), or B) there is a REAL valid emergency that will take you afk more than 5-10 minutes.
But like everyone else, i start a party knowing i have to leave in 45 minutes and piss everyone off (especially myself) by leaving just as things start working >,<
If you're a job that's hard to replace and you have a deadline as to when you have to go, start looking half an hour in advance, maybe you'll have to miss 15 minutes of exp because they don't wanna wait for you to leave but it's courtesy to your party. my bard did this a few days ago, he said he had to leave in 30 and he got a replacement in about 5, that's some selfless sacrifice, he said he'd rather miss out on 25 minutes than ruin the whole party for all of us by not being able to replace himself at the 25 marker.
That's the attitude I get from most jp players, who give their all for the party. it's something i miss a lot out there.
