For some odd reason today I went to fill up my truck's gas tank, and it started kicking back all the gas I put into it, it makes no sense, I even prodded into the area near the gas tank hoping open up the line where it seems to be backed up with no luck. I managed to get in an entrie bottle of my usual fuel treatment/carb cleaner with no problem, but once I start pumping gas, it halts on me and won't go into my tank, with happens to be on the last 1.5/16 as per my fuel meter and usual weekly routine, so there's no way I'm overfilling.

Any ideas or suggestions as I wait for my truck to cool off so I can dismantle my fuel lines (around the gas cap area before the tank) and such?

What year? I`m far from a knowledgeable mechanic but I seem to recall hearing that at some point they started making overflow valves mandatory, or at least a standard feature. Sounds like yours is boned.

2003 S-10, but there's no longer a problem, it was the dumbest thing too, just what I think they call "vapor lock" from all the heat today and the fact that I'd been driving for pretty much the whole three hours before I tried to refuel. Once my truck had cooled down when I ran one last test before craking it open, it took any gas I put into it, so I rushed to the station and filled up.

Funny thing is that my boss had the same problem before and told me she had to let her truck cool down before filling up too. Seems I'll only be filling my tank up when it's cooler at night during this summer from now on.

On a semi-related note: the attendants at the gas station who tried to help me earlier were still there when I went to fill up tonight and they said some guy had the same problem but his was caused by a fuel pump being installed incorrectly, I'm really glad my problem was just heat and vapors compared to that O.o;
