i fuckin hate this Prom. thing i did it tonight and lost 2 times in a row at DEM.
god damn why does it have to be so hard ; ~ ;
PT setup: war/nin , rd/blm, whm/blm, rng/nin, mnk/war,
does anyone know how this new patch will Nerf the Proms.i read it and it didnt say anything

Its because crappy players like you, that Square Enix needs to cater to. Prom missions aren't that difficult. Props to all of you who got Promathia missions done before the patch. Shows that you have skill.

And Davio... to lose at Promivion Dem.. wow.. you're a shining example of what failure looks like. I'd have some sympathy if it was Promivion Holla, but its not.

I seriously hope Square Enix does not nerf the Promivion missions. Simply put. You don't deserve to enter the new high level areas if you can't even beat some of the easiest missions put forth to you.

They're all pretty easy... cept Mea... even the best get plastered.

17/19 now...

No animas cept 2 times.

I assumed later on after doing the Prom. Holla battle that they would have too nerf it sometime. After alot of people have done them then they don't want too go again which makes it hard too form an alliance for these. I am just hoping they are nerfing the emptiness that you go through too get too the Burning Circle. Just one complette party and if your group fails then you can go again without the worry of finding another party too form an alliance with. I just think they made it challenging cause cause it was first coming out and giving people a challenge. Kinda of why I was in no hurry too do these and spend alot of gil just too get frustarted.

I find the greatest dificulty is not the mission, but the fact that it has to be done with so many other people. I hate relying on none LS members. I do not know how many times complete Jackasses are like "I only have an hour left so lets hurry" As we get into the god damn Promyvion. Or some schmuch puts himself on follow and gets killed. Stupid shit people do gets on my nerves. Not only that they can not listen to directions, make sure all teh shades are dead before using the portal, Pull one at a time, hae ranged and SMNs go against the big one... Is it that hard? What do people do? They rush the damn thing, I have atempted Promyvion 5 times, I got to the BCNM ONCE. We lost at the BCNM for not being properly prepared, our fault I will not make the same mistakes twice. The rest of the time? People kill us all or leave assuming that 5 can do the BCNM no problem... I get frustrated by dealing with these asshats and do not bother. Gtting 6 people together to do a mission is a big enough nuisance, make it 12-18 and have them all on the same one... By the time people get there shit together (Someone ALWAYS has not STARTED CoP missions) it has been 2 hours later.

honestly these prom missions are not hard if you know whats going on. me, devifoxx and 3 others had the dem boss to almost no life. yes we lost, but we could have beat him. biggest thing with the prom missions is the pt setup. sorry to say, your setup was not exaclty that good.
best setup to have is the 4 melee with nin sub and 2 mages...one of them preferrebly smn. also...more range attack, the better. however, this is not always possible and that is understandable.
the other major issue with prom missions is those people that dont like to listen to those that have done them before and those that like to go ahead of the group...slow and steady throughout the whole thing is the best advice in these missions.

oh yeah, they are really easy if you know what your doing...however, there are those people that dont think before they act. too many melee with swords, scythes, etc like to attack the recpeticle and that just makes it worse. easiest thing ive seen is having smn use an avatar to fight the memory while everyone clears teh mobs around it. the boss fights are the types of fights where nin tank or nin sub tank is the best tank to use. saves the mages the mp for the time that they really really need it which is near the end of the mobs life

I almost agree with this... NIN tank is not good against these fights, they are paper dolls and once shadows go down... they cant take much (if they had Ni it would be a different story) WAR/NIN or in Mea's case PLD or WAR/NIN are what you want....

hmmm, i have done these all multiple times, and found that the best pt setup is as follows,

nin/war (they evade more so the other tank can have more time to get his recast back, and can help enfeeble when it is on the other tank.)
war/nin (lower evade then ninja but far superior dmg and more weapon flexibility. Mighty Strikes is really helpful at BC)
rng/nin - bring bolts rather then arrows, less hate and sleep bolts can help soooo much '-'
whm/blm or smn - blm is probably better b/c they can elemental seal one of the enfeebles
blm/whm
smn/whm - helpful with killing the avatars, great back up healer, and their 2 hr bursted on the Skill Chain and rng's two hour usually kills the boss if you go at 25-30% HP, which means you avoid, or drastically shorten the time that you have to deal with its difficult attack.

as for them being difficult... i would agree, but only in that they are difficult because there is little room for error. Persionally, i welcome that change... it is nice to have a challenge. if the pt is well organized, and well equiped (including potions) you can complete each of these areas with only 6 people, though i think it is easier to do so with 12. you only listed 5 members in your pt, but i am going to assume the last was you as blm/whm. the major problem then, with this pt, was that you didn't have 2 blink tanks. rdm is kinda useless pre chapter 2 as well, but had ou had a war/nin or nin/war rather then the mnk/war you probably could have won. These missions are not made for exp pt build, remember that in the future and you should do fine.

On the contrary I was a bit skeptical about having a MNK/WAR (actually he was MNK/THF then) in the pt as a DD... but to be honest it worked better than most DD would have in any other situation, and why? High HP, and great DoT = durable damage dealer (DDD?)

As long as a MNK has some backup potions they dont' become too taxing to the healer. Also Hundred Fists is GREAT for the final stretch, as everyone knows getting the damage in is most important, especially consistent damage.

I personally would love to have a MNK in my promyvion party, but ehh whatever.

nin/war (they evade more so the other tank can have more time to get his recast back, and can help enfeeble when it is on the other tank.)

This could not be any more flawed. NIN/WAR are a paper tank and do not evade jack in promyvion, as all the monsters have high accuracy, or so it seems. Last night was my first promyvion in which I let a NIN tank, and he is an extremely skilled one at that. He used X-Potions and we had the whm AND rdm both cure bombing him and nothing could keep him alive sufficiently. WAR/NIN are a ton better because they can wear solid tank armor and still blink tank, as well as do some decent damage.

Hmmm, well, i did fine as nin/war '-' and the pt that had war/nin choos to have one of them change to nin/war for the reasons i listed. i realize that nin has horrible def, but the bosses were missing me ~20% of the time.... which was nice b/c it bought more time for the war/nin to recast utsu. I only had to use 3-5 hi pots too, never even thought to bring x-pots ^^;. Perhaps i was just lucky ;p

mnk/war would be fine as the dd melee, though i prefer rng/nin. The reason i said the mnk was a problem was b/c he only had 1 blink tank. As for DoT... you do not have to kill the bosses fast, except for at the end, which does not rely on DoT but 2hr/WS, so personally i do not feel that DoT is an issue '-';

As i said in my first post, i have done these all multiple times. the pick up pts i had were not in the format i listed, and we lost even with good communication and planning. In the pt format i listed, it took us about 8-12 minutes to finish each BC, but it wasn't a problem. Of course it is possible to win it with other pt formats, but Davio was having an issue with his run, and so i replied by suggesting what has worked for me. To say that a stratigy/pt set up, that has won against all of the bosses flawlessly for someone multiple times is "flawed" is silly, i would never suggest 2 nin/wars for the pt, but one worked beautifully in the past. 2 war/nin works well too, however the pts that had that in my groups often had some close moments when neither of the tanks had utsu up for recast...

You say you had a nin/war and a war/nin... so you had two tanks. Unless I read that wrong you were saying you bought time for the war by tanking with nin... I meant if you could only have one tank for the fight, nin/war would be the absolute worst you could go with (next to anything else/war)

Yeah one error even in the best party can throw it off, I know, I faced my 2nd and 3rd losses ever last night, once because of a stupid mistake I'll take credit for, and the other because we only had a nin/war to tank holla. The 2 hours don't necessarily win the fight unless the bosses are dangerously low. You'll hear countless stories of how the boss gets to "almost dead" and its because after using their 2 hours, they couldn't dish out more consistent damage. DoT makes up heavily for the drain abilities these bosses have, especially since they take chunks of HP at a time. RNG/NIN, though you're right. Absolute best you can have for these fights. More RNG = safer fight, without a doubt.

you do not have to kill the bosses fast, except for at the end,

I said for the final stretch, more consistent damage faster is better than one large shot with no re-use (like Eagle Eye Shot or Astral Flow, which has a minute downtime in between each shot from it). Hundred Fists will rip through any regen a boss might have, or any hp drains they use, and keep it suppressed.

Funny story enough, you may think DoT is not an issue, but in a last ditch effort, a simple thing like Dia has made the battle for my party. We were literally all dead, and the only thing left was a Dia the WHM cast on it before he died, and it falls over dead as it comes to claim its last victim with 5 HP left and no MP. Heh... probably was pure luck we pulled that off but hey, without that Dia we wouldn't have done it.

the whole point of having nin/war or war/nin is so the two tanks can trade hate. the nin wont be taking everything, in fact, if the two tanks communicate right, neither of them will get hit. as far as jobs such as mnk/war or whatever, yes they will work, but you will spend most of your time healing that person which is the reason nin or nin sub is preferred

My question, couldn't TWO war/nins do the same thing? and less risk to either tank since they can both take hits?

Bah.... I don't need 2 tanks (usually) :P

Guess I'm just hardcore.

i prefer having 2 blink tanks because it will save on the mp for the times that you really need it...better safe than sorry.

mp was never a problem for me, see those price-y yag drinks and ethers people tell you to buy?

It's for a reason.
