I fail to see the stupidity of this. It's very true.

You don't get the stupidity of George Bush never stopping thinking about ways to harm America?

Strid was being sarcastic and wants to Bush bash with you. If you want to actually debate some political topics about Bush I would gladly join, but taking quotes out of context and jumping on someone for grammatical errors when speaking in front of millions of people is cowardly. The entire poll has a pretty clear bias as well.

Yes it does, or its making fun of the government. If youre a republican and think Bush is great, thats awsome, or if youre a dem. who hates him, thats also awsome.(its a broad statement not at you rones).

I was going to argue the "they are just making fun of the government" card, but they are making fun of Bush, and pretty much just Bush.

Um....do you really want to??

Im not going to pretend i will change anyone's mind about anything but yeah.

Assuming you are pro-Bush.

Why do you think that the War on Terror is an effective policy in fighting terror if al-Queda (post Taliban destruction) continued to commit terrorist acts more frequently? For instance, Bali bombings and Riyadh bombing (Saudi Arabias largest terrorist attack).

How is the War in Iraq beneficial to the War on Terror, seeing as Iraq is now a "Americans and infidels here come quick and kill" sign?

How can one justify a global policing precedent the Bush administration has set?

Why ally with Saudi's and Pakistan in the war on terror when they have schools that are blatantly anti-western and corrupt politicians?

So why is it a good idea that the Patriot Act doesnt allow suspected terrorists to appeal their court cases?

How far is it ok to run the defecit?

Why lower taxes in war time, espescially now that Republicans can not really claim a distinction against democrats like they used to which is less federal spending?

Thats all for now.

No, I'm not being sarcastic and no I don't and will never bash Bush. I find the statement to be true based on my current views of American society. It's softies like the guy posting above me that leads to the majority of my conclusion.

I'm not a softy, well at least in not a conventional since of the word, you may define it how you please. I know you're paradigm on masculinity is probably bombing brown people or being conservative, but I am straight up conservative on domestic policy and spending. Welfare state, no thanks. Yet, because I think that american international relations are short sighted stupidity im a softy (i hope using alliteration makes me a softy too). if being a softy is making informed decisions about the bush administration and their policy than ok, i can take that, if it means something different then you are just incorrect.

second time today ive said this today: Ad Hominum <Do you need it?> i guess not.

Aren't you mixing Democratic up here ? You seem to one sided to be conservative.

The truth is often bi-partisan and one-sided .. it's also not a pre-requisite to have to choose a side when stating the facts. You can slice it any way you like those statements are fact regardless of partisanship. Why call it bush-bashing? It's simply a current-event type history lesson, congrats if you voted for the jumping monkey, you earned it :)

all these polls are definetely one sided... but the one that pisses me off the most is the media one.

First off, I don't see CNN, MSNBC, and all the other ABC chanells on there.... all of their are hardcore liberal chanels.. Fox news is one of the most balanced stations.. but they are beginning to become more liberal as well....funny how one of the most balanced stations (compared to all the liberal ones) wins stupidest media outlet

Because it has been working. Terror attacks, as a whole, have been down steadily ever since 9/11.

How is the War in Iraq beneficial to the War on Terror, seeing as Iraq is now a "Americans and infidels here come quick and kill" sign?

The terrorists are losing in Iraq. They've been losing ever since we stormed into Baghdad, and now their last hope of 'reclaiming' Iraq is taking enough potshots and suicide bombers and hoping we leave Iraq unprepared to defend herself (which we're not.)

People like to talk about the 1700 dead American servicemen and women in Iraq. And yes, it's terrible that anyone, Arab, Iraqi, American, anyone has to die for something like this. But remember, in World War II America was losing 2,000 soldiers EVERY WEEK for three years. When you consider that we've been there for over two years, that's an amazingly low number of casualties.

How can one justify a global policing precedent the Bush administration has set?

The same way the UN tried to justify it for the past 60 years. Sometimes, being right and being unpopular are one and the same.

Why ally with Saudi's and Pakistan in the war on terror when they have schools that are blatantly anti-western and corrupt politicians?

Why ally with Stalin in WWII?

So why is it a good idea that the Patriot Act doesnt allow suspected terrorists to appeal their court cases?

Has this part of the Patriot Act even come up in a criminal trial? I suspect it would go to the SCOTUS if it were ever used.

How far is it ok to run the defecit?

Why lower taxes in war time, espescially now that Republicans can not really claim a distinction against democrats like they used to which is less federal spending?

This has been the one big mistake of the Bush-led Congress. Tax cuts are great, and help our economy - just not when you deficit spend.

Whatever happened to the days when you could turn on fox news for paint factories exploding and children trapped on power lines? While you may be dead on about the other media outlets you mentioned nothing run by rupert murdoc is non-partisan, take your head out of the clouds.

The trend of decreasing terrorist attacks is nothing new. Basically, the war on terror isnt the only factor in play if anything it takes the trend and enhances the negative aspects as well as doing nothing to help the positive aspects of the trend.

http://www.mindef.gov.sg/safti/pointer/back/journals/2002/Vol28_4/6.htm

I show this document because it explains the trend. I say the War on Terror enhances the negative because it increases the fanaticism that drives larger attacks, and by increasing coverage of terrorist attacks the need for more numerous and violent attacks become necessary for terrrorists to get their message across.

The terrorists are losing in Iraq. They've been losing ever since we stormed into Baghdad, and now their last hope of 'reclaiming' Iraq is taking enough potshots and suicide bombers and hoping we leave Iraq unprepared to defend herself (which we're not.)

But remember, in World War II America was losing 2,000 soldiers EVERY WEEK for three years. When you consider that we've been there for over two years, that's an amazingly low number of casualties.

1. I don't think Saddam Hussein had an elite, modern, large conventional military presence that would even be possible of inflicting such damage to the most well-equipped fighting force in the world. Of course, the casualties are low. I'm not completely confident in saying Iraq will not turn out ok, but I am pretty confident in saying that the United States is a sovereign nation that pumps countless resources into a war that has no legitimate purpose as a sovereign nation. A just cause for a war is always needed. There was just cause for a war in iraq, if you are an iraqi. It is no secret to me that the Iraqi people really had very little power to change what was going on (even though there are numerous insurgency groups during saddams time that alone as a nation is not enough), but that is the only way good government can be formed. If a nation does not have a powerful civil society, no matter what government you put in, it can become corrupt with no one to stop it.

2. There is definitely some truth in saying that terrorists arent winning in Iraq. al-Zarqawi is a Jordanian I doubt mixed middle eastern and Iraqi insurgency/populous really see him as much to rally behind. terrorism is probably going to fail in Iraq because of its own weaknesses. The american presence does help, but how many terrorists would be in Iraq if their wasnt a western power there. Id say very few, you dont have to fight anything that you dont make fight you. As i said also, to leave Iraq prepared you have to leave Iraq with a functioning civil society....which can take decades. Yes, the terrorists are just taking pot shots, which wont work, once again their own weakness, but now they get to do it all day everyday for years.

The same way the UN tried to justify it for the past 60 years. Sometimes, being right and being unpopular are one and the same.

The UN is flawed straight up. Its pretty much the "United First World Nations pretend to give a shit about what everyone else thinks and we'll try and protect smaller nations every once and a while to make you think we do". Sometimes being right, isnt being right at all. Sometimes being right doesnt mean its best or right to make everyone else right. What gets the US in so much shit throughout the world (not that it is always justified mind you, alot of it is senseless hate towards the US), they go to many different places and cultures and dont take time to learn how to deal with them correctly, they try to police them based on a western metaphysic. Ie Vietnam, if we would have taken the time to understand how the asian culture views warfare it would have been a much different war. I'm not necessarily a cultural relativist, but I do not think policing is a good way to handle the interaction of international groups and powers. Simply, it breeds hatred, death and misunderstanding, and it does not work.

Why ally with Stalin in WWII?

Oh, uncle Joe. This is a fair point, but uncle Joe wasnt making little Nazis and sending them to Germany. He was doing bad shit mind you but, well heres my point:

http://csmonitor.com/2005/0627/p09s02-coop.html

Uncle Joe was a naughty man but in WW2 he wasnt making the problem worse.

Has this part of the Patriot Act even come up in a criminal trial? I suspect it would go to the SCOTUS if it were ever used.

Actually yes, I did a speech like 2 years ago and I read this article about a Florida lawyer who tried to bring it up in some circuit court but it didnt make it very far. I know that sounds sketchy, but I'm not lying.

The patriot act is something in general that isnt "transparent" if you will, and usually in democratic society its good to be transparent. I understand the national security concerns, the specific part of the Patriot Act i was talking about above is designed because the documents in the cases may be national security concerns, but obviously when they are not that creates a problem. There are legitimate parts of the patriot act, but its just bad legislation.

This has been the one big mistake of the Bush-led Congress. Tax cuts are great, and help our economy - just not when you deficit spend.

Yeah. On a side note, alot of not so conservative spenders believe raising taxes is the answer, when the main problem is the allocation and use of moneys. If a politician ever tells you they are going to cretae policies that are going to really help the economy, they are striaght up lying.

To Strid: I dont understand how when i say "welfare state no thanks" you think that makes me a domestic "democrat".[/url]

double post >.>;

I think it did have some legit reasons. It's planted seeds of democracy in places like Saudi Arabia, Iran (tainted as those elections were, it's a start) and Syria. We've gotten more than a few Middle Eastern leaders out of the terror business. And I think we 'enhance the negative,' especially in the media, because seeing soldiers building a hospital isn't as exciting a piece of news as some terrorist trying to cross the Israeli border with 10kg of C4 in her pants.

As for the terrorists not being in Iraq if we weren't there... damn it, I prefer people with big guns and bombs strapped to their chests over there and not over here. As morbid as it sounds, many of these people targeting Iraqis and American servicemen/civilians might very well have headed to America and blown up a lot more of us here. Is it paranoia? Well, kinda, but at the same time I was affected fairly personally by 9/11 (for reasons I'd prefer not to discuss on an internet message board) and if we can get the terrorists before they get us, so much the better.

And on the point of Stalin, he wasn't sending little Nazis, he was sending little Commies. Imagine being a 'liberated' concentration camp worker in Poland, watching Stalin's army look through the people left... and sending you to the gulag. It happened, and we tried to overshadow that with the fact that they were our allies.

I'd be a lot more upset about the Patriot Act if I saw it enforced more often. And the fact that it was used and it didn't fly in something as small as a circuit court doesn't really scare me into thinking it'll become a huge part of our legal system. And while the definition of 'terrorist' is a bit sketchy, I have to say that if your aims in this country are to destroy it from the inside, maybe you don't deserve exactly the same rights as someone arrested for a DUI or even murder cases.

Numbering in response to paragraphs.

1: Its hard for me to agree that one can plant the seeds of democracy (which is a bottom-top approach) by having tainted elections for top officials, which is top-bottom, and obviously ineffective. Espescially since you mention Iran and Syria. Id like to know which leaders, or which countries you mean, not saying there arent any, or you are wrong, Id just like to know. Just a side note, I'm not particularly pro Isreal or Palestine, but i think its kind of funny affiliating either one with a border if you know what i mean ;). Its not like American soldiers are not doing "good" things in Iraq, the intentions are generally good, its just too bad that intentions only go so far when a fanatic blows himself in a newly built hospital.

2: Yeah, I have heard that argument. Better there than here, thats the job of the servicemen. Its not a paranoid argument its just flawed on a few levels. Why does a terrorist attack, why do people become terrorists. There are many factors from education, financial background, culture etc. Terrorists are taught to hate westerners, but going to the Middle East and being a constant influence gives them a warped justification for their warped reasoning. Right now its easier for them to kill Americans in Iraq, because they are right there, its all the provocation they need. We cant have a constant diversion internationally to keep them away from America, even if we chose to do so, it only perpetuates the problem. Its a short term solution, which creates short term and long term problems. The terrorists that have the means to make attacks in the US have all the reason to in their warped minds because we are over there. It is a factor creating the problem, it fuels the problem, it means we will always need a diversion. If i could give you an easy solution that i knew worked i'd be in the State Dept. probably and be a published professor, but I can tell you there is pro-active steps, such as the ones in the CSM article i linked, but sometimes taking small steps and being defensive is much better then diving in and making the problem worse.

3: Stalin was sending everything and the kitchen sink into Germany I know. Stalin was his own problem unique of WW2, im saying nations like pakistan and saudi arabia are part of the problem the war itself is about. It seems both cases are necessary evils, my point is that most people are ignorant of how this war is fought.

4: Its really hard to talk about the court cases with the Patriot Act and what it does because it is not transparent. You only hear about the high profile cases because there is no avoiding it. Thats the problem, the public really does not know what is up. I'd say breaking any law is a disrespect to the framework of a nation no matter if you are a terrorist or a DUI. The difference is how its done: one uses religious fundamentalism and bombs, the other uses a very small family tree and a 40 oz.

The hardest part about understanding the war on terror, I think, is that you have to seperate our thinking from theirs. All through the 90's, after Cole, after WTC #1, we took the Chamberlain route. Appeasement, roundtables, summits. Arafat at Camp David. We gave peace a chance, and we got 9/11. It's the same thing that's happening in Europe and, to a lesser extent, Australia. Islamic terrorists have different goals and a different worldview than we do.

We'd be happy with coexistence, peace, understanding, trust, and all of that. They want us either dead or subserviant. And we're trying to change that view, but thousands of years of warping the Koran and breeding a culture of death, instead of one based on life, is going to take some time. We're there, so we're the evil imperialist Western pigs. If we weren't there, we'd be the scared little rabbits hiding in their hole when Islam flexes its muscle.

5 years ago a tainted election in Iran would have been a byline on the back page. Today we're looking deeper and deeper at fixing those problems.

5 years ago we were sending angry letters to a murderous dictator. Today he's eating Raisin Bran Crunch amd Doritos while we turn his country into the largest Democratic beacon in the Middle East.

Being defensive only let them come to our borders. Taking the fight to them may be more graphic, it may be more visceral, but it was time the world bared its teeth at these people and didn't let them use fear to control us.
