So what are everyone's findings on BLU dmg on the big stuff: HNMs; sky; sea; chariots; ZNM (especially T4+); etc? Has anyone tried Mind Blast on Tinnin? What works well on the Khimara ZNM? Average/high dmg and gear sets would be much appreciated. ^^

Naibara uses a High defensive Cannonball setup for Sarameya...I think he landed 2200+ at one point. With our current strategy all of this hate is landed on a tank, making BLU pretty valuable. Not sure the actual pieces of the set, but it's pretty sick damage.

edit:
I guess to further answer your question, Tinnin and Tyger we've yet to find solid uses for BLU damage wise since the fights are centered around keeping hate on the tanks as much as possible. While TA's could be used, we've found more uses with additional healing from BLU/WHM on Tinnin and Tyger.

I've seen it do decent damage on the actual HNM khimaira with SA Cannonball. I plan to try it out once my blu gets up there >< It worked well on odin as well.

BLU is great for things like Temperance, since it switches damage immunity types. Other than that, BLU can dish out fairly steady damage if equipped right and has proper support (Refresh and/or BRD/COR.) BLU/NIN can tank decently too. Not very well, but is a decent substitute if all other tanks are down. Diffusion + Exuviation creates a lot of enmity.

Healing wise, BLU is actually pretty above average with /WHM, /RDM, or /SCH subs. Magic Fruit has a really long range, so it's good on kiting tanks and Light staff works with it too. I wouldn't say BLU would be a "first" choice for things in endgame, but the potential shouldn't be underestimated.

Yea, we use it quite often for assistance in healing. I've been trying to figure out how much hate Magic Fruit generates compared to Cure IV or V, but haven't been able to lock it down yet.

Well, Cure V has fixed hate, regardless of how much HP is healed. I'd definitely say it's got a pretty similar enmity formula as regular cures, maybe slightly less. Cure V gives about as much hate as Cure III, and I'd say an average Magic Fruit would fall somewhere between III and IV.

Yea, was curious if there was any fixed hate on it...as some of the Fruit's I've received have been pretty high cures. Sorry if I didn't explain correctly.

I don't think I've had to use Magic Fruit enough on other people to really compare it to regular cures. Since I swap in Errant/Mahatma gear, the -Enmity might be off putting my results a little bit, but I've mostly used it on myself while soloing or small parties. Plus my BLU is a bit of a lolBLU.

i would think from the hate taken off of me that magic fruit would lean twoards cure IV of course I'm currently unable to use it(since I'm 50) going off of my little experiences with blue mages in campaign as I've healed them on smn to have hate go towards me to have it removed when the blue mage took it off of me with magic fruit(no DS).

if that helps

BLUs are good to hold mobs in Einherjar, that's the only place i see them shine <.<

My observations have been that Magic Fruit is pretty close to Cure IV on hate. If I'm meleeing, and cast it twice, it's usually enough for me to pull hate. Then again, I can pull hate with Actinic Burst, and I'm told that spell doesn't have very much hate (I think they are speaking of CE, I haven't seen any test results on the spell's VE).

I read somewhere that it was possible for BLU's to hit as much as 1500 dmg on Heat Breath, though I'm not sure if the amount was exagerated a little. Being a taru, it would be even harder to hit that (base dmg with no resists = 1/2 current HP). I do think it's possible to get pretty high dmg, fully merited Convergence will give you +25 MAB (only MAB that does work with breath spells) and Saurian Helm/Mirage Keffiyeh are each supposed to boost dmg by 10% on breath spells, which is equivalent to +10MAB. +35MAB isn't too bad, especially on a spell that ignores MDB (resistance is still taken into account). Too bad Convergence has a 10 minute recast, lol.

Hmm, for some reason I thought Hydras were in the dragon family. Guess that rules out demon based spells, though I would probably still be more effective going BLM to Tinnin, lol.

Dunno why you say not very well, I can hold hate as well, if not better than a pld/nin. Only problem is, there can't be mobs in aoe range.

1583 base hp, with high breath mantle (also 8/8 hp merits), I'll get cerberus mantle at some point. With carb thats 1758 hp. +22 enmity

Spells I use to keep hate:

Actinict Burst - 180 CE, 1020 VE
Temporal Shift - 180 CE, 1020 VE
Jettatura - 180 CE, 1020 VE
Exuviation - 640 CE, 640 VE (diffusion exu. hitting whole pt generates more hate than invincible)
Blank Gaze - 320 CE, 320 VE
Magic Fruit - depends on how much you heal.
Saline coat (rarely) - 1 CE, 480 VE

I also put in magic defense bonus trait for ultima and such.

CE is permanent hate, VE is temporary. I use the first three to get quick hate, if someone lays a heavy nuke, or I just need more hate at that moment. Then once I've established hate, I use more of the exuviation and blank gaze, to build permanent hate.

With a rdm and brd, your mp never even goes under 300 (and I'm an elvaan). Very easy to hold hate.

As for cannonball, this is the build I use, don't really use the fire staff/grip unless I'm using azure lore, most the time its ifrit's/genbu. I've broken 2k easily on most gods, KB, etc.

Only trait my spell set gives is defense bonus, and I use taco's for fewd.

I had screenshots of over 2.6k cannonballs to byakko, but I can't find them ><

But to answer Ewok, damage wise, blu only really has potential on kited fights, using cannonball once a minute (one with SA, next with CASA). And we can tank very well, but limited to few fights due to our spells being AoE.

Damn you and your avatar...

i think Ewok was referring to normally what a blue does as this is the first time I've read of blue mage specifically tanking(hnm) or purposely taking hate with a specific enm build, the latter portions about using cannonball(and vertical cleave from a friend) on gods I have.

Normally a blue mage doesn't intentionally set that many spells for purely taking hate as those would take a lot of points and take away from the usual roles. I'm pretty impressed by your post though I'll have to keep it in mind.

Do you have a link for where you got your hate values? Specifically the VE values, last time I checked there were still a lot of unkown VE values (got into an arguement on Alla about how much hate Actinic Burst creates).

Thanks, looks like it's been updated, lol. Cool to see that Actinic Burst and Temporal Shift have a relatively high VE.

Another question: has anyone tried BLU/DNC outside of campaign? I know it's a very fun combo inside of campaign, it would be awesome if it was workable outside of it.

On top of how well blu can hold hate, the spells you use to hold hate, are terror, stun, flash, dispel, and self-erase...can't beat that.

One question though, not sure we have any good tanking blu's on quetz, so I doubt anyone knows...but does the +15 blue magic skill, increase the chance for actinic/temporal/jett to stick?

I'd think so, should work like any other +magic skill.

yeah blue magic and sword skill relationship are a little confusing

your mainhand weapon skill determines the acc of your blue spells(physical only?) while the blue magic skill(aside from non damage aspects) helps acc and threshold damage of your blue magic.

at least that's how blue magic seems to apply for me since I do notice more magic sticks when my blue magic is capped sans when it isn't vs exp mobs.
