Yea, you did touch a nerve. Because "cutting" yourself isn't a laughing matter. Then you continued to touch another nerve.
Suicide is not something to joke about. It's no cry for attention. It's a freaking human being. NO FUCKING DIFFERENT than you or me. Who is thinking about taking their own life, because some person, who is no better, treated them like absolute trash.
And their response is to value their life, their feelings, their decisions over everyone else, whether or not those people are directly responsible for their condition or not. No successful suicide victim has ever had to deal with the feelings of their family, friends, loved ones and community after their death. (Unless you believe in reincarnation, final judgement, and all of that. Not really all that important in this discussion.)
You say you were concerned the first time. Concerned? As in you sat back and watched it happen?
As in 'helped her expel as many sleeping pills as possible and rode with her to the ER to get her stomach pumped.'
As well for another time? You sat there and watched another human try to take thier life?
The second time, I was four states away, talking her down over the phone. Sorry I didn't have my Teleport-Pennsylvania scroll handy.
I have a question. Did you try to stop them? Did you try to talk them out? Or were you just a cold, heartless bastard?
See above. Very cold and heartless of me.
I've seen my brother crushed because one of his friends commited suicide. I've been crushed because one of my best friends has been on the edge of death more than once. I've sat there for hours on the phone with my friend trying to talk him out of it.
My girlfriend has attemped suicide once (Before I met her.) I've also talked her down from a drunken, emotional state and helped her battle some past emotional demons. Her cousin committed suicide over Christmas. Granted, I'd never met him - but the family was pissed enough that he would do it that they cremated him the next day - after he had stated on multiple occasions that he felt cremation was the worst way to be handled post-mortem.
You ignore your family's feelings, and, well, they just might ignore your wishes.
You say ex-friend. Is that because you just abandoned them Cubs? Because that's exactly what they need. Another person out of thier life.
When you try, on multiple occasions, over the course of a few years, to get her into therapy, into treatment, into recovery for a better life - and all she does is continue the same pattern of behavior, refuses to take her medication, refuses to go to meetings, uses her attempts as bargaining chips, and blames everyone but herself for her situation...
Sorry, but I don't shoulder burdens that both show no signs of lightening nor appreciate your help. She threated me with another attempt when I ended our friendship.
She's still alive.
