You tube sold to google

Youtube ain't broke, so hopefully they don't try to "fix" it.
If I paid all that money for a winning recipe, the last thing I'd do is change it.

Not surprised.

Meanwhile the site’s bandwidth costs, which increase every time a visitor clicks on a video, may be approaching $1 million a month–much of which goes to provider Limelight Networks.
(…)
Industry observers estimate that YouTube, which is streaming 40 million videos and 200 terabytes of data per day, may be paying between a tenth of a cent and half a cent per minute. Neither YouTube nor Limelight would comment on their pricing.

YouTube originally started up with some fat chunk of grant money ($80mil?). Their stockpile of green is dwindling by the second. They were expecting to shut down the service very soon, less than one year iirc.

Only a handful of businesses can afford that kind of bandwidth cost, and since Google already has their own streaming video service active and online, they were definitely the best suited competitor. It'll probably remain running, but will use Google's streaming service instead of Youtube's. That, or they'll mash em together and make some Shepherd's Pie.
