I was sitting in the dunes waiting for a party and I was looking at my character. A thought that had been in the back of my mind had started to surface:

The character appearance I chose during the character creation process looked so much better than this. Plus my hair color is completely wrong. Its supposed to be brown, but instead its orange! Then you realize you didnt want that tatoo on the top of your bald head, then you realize you dont like your frame size, etc. etc.

Am I the only one who feels that the image during the character creation phase was extremely misleading at some points?

To expand on this thought, couldn't SE add a sort of Barber Shop kind of thing where you pay X amount of gil to have your appearance changed? I think they did this in runescape but I never used it.
 
Yea I feel the same way sometimes about my Taru. It kinda seems like everyone and their brother has the same face. I do kinda wish that SE implimented something that could augment hair styles or facial hair and that sort of thing (tarutaru with a mohawk and a beard!!!), but I really cant see it happening. It would probably screw up the game or something lol.
 
I've been wanting some way to change my character's appearence for years, it'd be a great gil sink and they could even expand on the amount of character models. I'd love for that to be included, but I don't know if they've ever addressed it or not.
 
They should, if nothing else, allow a hair colour change.. if not necessarily style change.

No race/gender changes, of course... but simple hair changes would make sense.

one game i beta tested a long time ago was called Dragon Rajah, and in that game you could change the color of your armor.. it was basic changes like.. main cloth color and outline color.. but the amount of ways you could customize your clothes.. it was fun.. i played around with that feature for a long time.. i wish theyd put something like that in the game.. sure i'd like to change my hair color/style.. but that'd take basically reprogramming a HUGE portion of the game.. i dont believe basic color changes would be half as bad.. immagine me wearing NIN AF or something.. but instead of it being pure black.. being pink with a black outline.. or purple with white outline.. le sigh..

SWG had an entire class devoted to custimisation and appearance called "Image Designer" Was a bitch to level.
 
I say, just live with your selections like you have to live with your own face, it's life! Hehe!

But I suppose a hair-cut would add a realistic approach? Perhaps, set up a Barber shop in Bastok Mines run by Galkas? Mind you, it could be race specfic also like real life no? ... White Babers, Black Barbers, Indian Barbers... = Hume Barbers, Galka Barbers, Elvaan Barbers...onry! ^^;;;

I could see a hair cut thing, that'd be cool. I don't think I'd change mine, but it would be nice not to be every male taru's identical twin.

They should open a Rhinoplasty doctor though. Some of those Elvaan chicks are uggo. :wink:
 
SE has openly stated that they have no plans to release new content for our character models (face, ears, eyes, hair, ect.ect.) because of the limitations from having the game on the PS2.

If they dropped the PS2 then they could add a ton of new things, but unfortunately since PS2 makes up a huge user-base they won't.

Right now you can change your character looks through .dat swapping or creating your own dats. Alyada, when I RP'd the character, always had green eyes and two scars down the side of her face. Lo & behold, I found the perfect face .dat to change my character model to mimic what I see Aly as!
 
FFXI is a near perfect game imo, but I agree one of the things it sorely lacks is character individuality. We've all come to accept that equipment selection will always be limited to a few "best" pieces for each block, and this is fine as everyone wants to perform, but SE could remedy the negative side effect of good equipment with the color palate customization others mentioned. I too would love some sort of character model customization too. Believe it or not, when I first signed up for XI, my character model wasn't the most popular. Every taru male was an affro taru. For some reason, tied back hair taru (like my blue one) is the bandwagon head choice, and while it doesn't matter, I did make every effort initially to be a little different from the crowd, and would still like to do so. We're all "Adventurers", and not "Soldiers". Our lot in this virtual world screams individualist, yet we all look the same. I guess adventurers in vanadiel are "individuals" in the same way "goths" are irl - a whole subculture where everyone looks the same.
 
Barbershops, eh? But then you'd have some mithra wanting to shave her head and make workout videos. Now would you really wanna see that?

Could have a special "Brazzilian" option for females in the Barber shops....
 
Try playing a taru. I get fed up of having my camera at the widest angle so I can see up to a galka. Might be why most of my mules are mithra or hume...

Well, I use the race changer program alot of the time (especially in sky, I don't know why but I think mithra blm suits sky better than a lil taru) I think if you search the forums for a race changer program you'll be able to find it.
