I'd like to see more what if topics so this idea came to me.

If effectiveness was not an issue, and you could sub anything without getting made fun of, what would you sub?

For example, before people even cared about what's good and not before the game came out, you'd here alot of "I want to be a dragoon-blackmage" "I want to be a war/whm so I could attack and heal", and they completely disregarded effectiveness because they didn't know better.

For me, I use to want to be a drg/thf, but what a funny world this is. Drg isn't even unlocked for me, and thf is 66.

And now if I could, I'd be thf/brd.

And for brd, I'd be brd/thf or brd/smn.

There is just something cool to me about being the hate controller, treasure man, and the music guy in a party.

I was DRG/THF from 1-42 (where my DRG sits now >.>).

But, pertaining to the actual topic, I would definitely try NIN/THF, DRK/BLM, PLD/NIN and DRG/NIN. They seem like they might be a lot of fun, but god knows it isn't viable /sigh.

DEFINATELY PLD/MNK

in my oppionion, that would be one friggin godlike combo

get focus and stuff for more damage, boost for some WS's like vorpal blade...

hell counter would make that combo just unbeliveable

only downside... no voke... bleh...

I really liked goofing around with mnk/drg in the mid 50s i'd say i could have a bit of fun with it now. Actually used it in xp pt once, dmg output increased over war sub by about 200 per fight. But alas "drg sub is stupid, you don't even get a wyvern omfgawdz!" is usually what the cool kids say ;) Let's not mention the acc bonus or 2-3 more instant dmg abilities *sigh*

personally i would love to sub BLM on my SMN when in party. a combo that i find to be effective when soloing. while i fully agree, in party, whm is a more effective sub, its fun to bend the rulz too.

Rules? where ? Who made rules saying SMN has to sub WHM... ? NIN has to sub WAR... its just magically the only thing accepted .. which I think is kinda stupid... but thats me.. this strays off topic a bit but who made it law that you have to experience in Valkurm Dunes 10- 19 ? It just became accepted and only thing done.

Hm, if I could have any job/sub and they were all actually effective (i.e. WAR/BLM would have decent MP and wouldn't be completely resisted on spells, etc), what would I want?

Actually, I'd probably stick with my DRK/THF or DRK/WAR... I dunno, maybe I'm just tainted by what really works, and I'm becoming a mindless drone that only follows the rule of "the only things that you can use are the ones that work" >.>

yeh, when i first open the box for FFXI and reading through the jobs in the manual... i wanted to become a DRK/BLM... it made sense to me at the time...

yeah I was thinking that too, because they both have fantastic elemental skill and dark magic skill. It would work well if a drk went for accuracy and int gear maybe and kept their elemental and dark magic skills capped.

Also, I wouldn't mind seeing some WHM/RDMs. RDM sub would give boost to enhancing and enfeebling skill for the whm if there is no actual red mage or bard available in party. Yes this would mean the WHM would lose some MP to the RDM sub, cause as we all know, rdm doesn't get much for MP :p

No one likes red mage subs on anyone. And the only reason I can figure is, it doesn't give any JAs and you lose some MP. Also don't get escape/warp, but your enhancing and enfeebles would be more effective with whm/rdm.

I want to be a Warrior/Dragoon and rip into things with my GA... well AFTER level thirty... yet before seventy...

That or Thf/Rdm... HOW YA LIKE MY DAGGERS NOW B!TCH?!!!

/cry

I was in a Cannon party and I ran into a Blm/smn the other day.

He kicked ass. Blink from garuda was very useful.
/rdm isn't bad for Blm either, you get a couple of extra magic att bonus, and you have a high cap on enfeebling and you get spells like Gravity and Phalanx, very useful in a cannon party.

Lol, I know a level 60+ DRG that insists on subbing THF, it might be fun but it just isn't practical, lol. Also met a mnk that subs it.... not practical again.

I always liked NIN/THF and THF/RNG, Neither are viable for party though, but both solo quite well. Unless the sub job is totally outrageous, I generally don't have a problem with people experimenting with different subs in exp parties, unless it's just totally outrageous(IE WAR/SMN or some shit like that, lol). People loose sight of the "fun" part of this game, that being you can play it the way you choose. As long as I got my bases covered I wouldn't hesitate to invite a DRK/PLD or a RDM/BRD. Got to love the dunes cause you can get away with that kind of craziness on a regular basis

You say that like rdm/brd isn't fun AND practical. But that's a convo for another topic.

But I remember a bunch of people wanting to be drk/pld and pld/drk

"I'll have the attack of a drk, and the defense of a pld!" lol.

Awww, do we have to? I want to talk about it now.

Lol, less mp, less defense, no elemental seal/divine seal. Probably a intelligence/magic damage penalty. Does Ballad stack with refresh? My guess is with the mp penalty it wouldn't make that much of a difference. You are right, does sound like fun, and you do get silence resistance. But you are taking 2 jobs that serve the same purpose and combining them, to me that's like taking a tylenol then an asprin. They both do the same job, lol. Still, I'm not going to totally discount it until I see it, who has a 63 RDM with a fully leveled BRD sub that can party tonight?

I want to be a DD pld/nin. PLD have high str, and with enough str, accuracy, and attack gear, I bet I could do insane swift blades(screw vorpal). Dual wield company swords, {Do you need it?}

Also pld/mnk for hnm tanking. Delicious HPs.

Yes it does stack.

Lol, less mp, less defense, no elemental seal/divine seal.

If your objective is to even out your MP and HP then don't forget you'll get more HP with a BRD sub, making it quite nice for Tarutaru in that regard.

Defense? Who cares. Honestly.

How many RDMs actually use their seal every 10 minutes? Be honest.

Probably a intelligence/magic damage penalty.

Well my RDM is 42. With WHM sub int is base 49. With BRD sub base 50.

Does Ballad stack with refresh? My guess is with the mp penalty it wouldn't make that much of a difference.

Yes it does stack with refresh. And max MP versus MP regen are in completely different leagues. Any mage would toss 100 MP to get a built in refresh.

But as to the original topic. I had wanted to be a DRG/SMN. Wanted to summon Anima and jump off into the air while it kicked some ass, then land on the monster a few minutes later finishing it off.

Much to my "mentors" dismay and anger, I was a drk/pld untill level 30. Surprisingly only one or two people ever said anything, and as for getting party invites I got several invites while killing trees in Jugner without my flag up.

My ideal combo which i brought up in the ls and quickly got shot down.
MNK/NIN
I thought the idea of a counter tank with blink and uber high evasion sounded pretty intriguing. We can dream can't we?
