Your first 10 days!

Bleh, my post got owned earlier, when I hit a button that deleted my entire post.

I started on Fenrir, with a big group of RL friends(November 16th, 2003). Anyways, we agreed to split up, for about a week, and meet up and show our progress. I chose Bastok of course, seeing as how my favorite color is Blue, plus I chose Hume. I spent maybe my first week playing, using only the mouse to move, this was pretty frustrating. I didnt really know how to move, the majority of MMO's I had played used the mouse click on position, and your character would move there.

Ok, so I ask a few people where I can fight some Enemies, that wouldnt utterly destroy me. So, after many, many deaths (I didnt think to check the mobs, I just wanted to kill stuff) from mobs that linked or agro'd, or were just plain, too tough. Level 4 came around, I figure "hell, I should update my gear, the mobs are hitting harder now", seeing how the wimps were giving lousy exp. I head to the NPC stores, (I NPC'd everything, I didnt know what the hell the AH was, I mainly stayed outside level'n) sold all my junk, crystals, etcetera. But, what was this? I couldnt sell the gear I started in? Thats BS, I was angered, then I see some level 4 gear, I believe it was. I buy the entire set, Harness, Gloves, Leggings, Subligar...? I equip it all, I loved the graphics they were amazing to me, I loved how my character, but whats this? My character is showing a little too much leg! I promptly unequip, at the risk of looking like a Gay Barbarian (no offense). I discard the Subligar, didnt bother to sell it, it offended me *holds up a cross*! I take a break for a day.

Anyways, after my stomach settled, and I stopped vomitting. I decide I'll just get back into things, level 7 comes around. I want new gear, but I'm a WAR, so I cant wear, what may have looked cool. That being Far Eastern gear, for MNK/NIN/SAM. Then, I see a guy run past me, whitish colored armor, looked pretty cool, so I /check him. It's leather armor, I had to have it. I rush to the AH, (yes, I figured it out eventually =P) buy up the set. My character looked so cool, I had to take pictures everywhere. I loved zooming in on my character, sitting in random areas. Especially near Beastmen camps (the places with the campfires and stuff), so I wait until night, the fire starts, I start taking pictures, and have to AFK. I was dead when I returned, and my level was lost. ; ; My cool looking leather Armor was about 200 exp away, sure I could make that back easily. If...I hadnt spent all my money buying new gear...

Anyways, fast forward to some useless stuff. I'm not level 10, I have a bunch of cash saved up (200k, it was a lot at the time), by farming crystals, and making ingots/sheets. I buy a bunch of HQ gear, and I meet back up with my friends, they were higher level than me 13+ and such. I look at their gear, it was horrible, they just level'd like crazy, didnt even know how to make macros. (we all solo'd). Anyways, I solo'd a while longer in Konschtat, got owned by Sheep alot. When I had my first encounter with a RAM, it obliterated me. I was pissed...so I find some sheep to kill. =P

I guess around there is my 10 day limit.
 
All I remember was after a long opening CS, I got lost in town for ten minutes. Went outside, got mopped by a Rarab. That, and I remember speaking to Klank "I heard 12 silk threads sell for 10k, but the NPC only gave me [3400?] for the stack"

Oh god those were the days...
 
I ran around Sandy talking to any NPC that would listen....then started doing quests, and killing bunnies in West Ronf.

A few days into it, I was doing some mission that involved King Ranp's Tomb, and asked some random stranger (named Daroth) if he could help a noob out, and he did. <3 Showed me the NM camp there, hung out waiting for it to pop, just had a good time joking around - got my first Linkshell.

First 10 days kinda ruled, actually ^^
 
I spent 1st couple days getting lost in windy. Then I wanted a justice badge and didnt know how to get one, and no idea how the hell to access the auction house, so I traded some dude 8 yagudo necklaces for one. Ended up saving up 9k and thought I was rich as hell, but then blew it all on a Linkshell instead of gear. End of story :D
 
I first started playing a couple of days after the PS2 release, this is the first MMORPG that I have ever played. I bought the game thinking it looked like fun and I always liked the Final Fantasy games. I spent my first day updating and trying to think of a name/what job I wanted to be. It was a toss up between PLD and DRG, it turned out not to matter much after I finally got the updates done and realized they weren't options yet. At first I was worried and thought maybe I needed tobuy something else so I could play those jobs. lol

I did not have a keyboard at first, so step two was buy one on the way home from work before day 2.

The next day I wandered arround for a while in town tried to figure out how to use the controls and just explored my way arround Sandy (the game dropped me in Port Sandy my first day). One of the first things I saw was the airship landing in Port Sandy, shortly after watching the animation I remember thinking I am probably not going to get my own personal one of those in this game. So I wandered arround and accidentaly hit the zone to North Sandy few more hours of wandering arround talking to NPCs and I made it to the Auction House. I stayed away from it until someone explained how it worked to me a couple of days later.

Finally on about day three I figured out how to get outside and kill some stuff. I had found the armor shops the night before and because I didn't know how to use the AH I was figuring I couldn't upgrade anything till I got some money (which in the other games meant killing monsters). So I went into West Ron and killed stuff for a while.

About the fourth or fifth day I finally found out what a mog house was. So I spent most of that day messing arround with that. Then some more killing and some more fighting mobs. It was probably about another week until I made it into LaThien and managed to get enough gil to upgrade some things, I figured out how to use the AH with the help of some nice people. Shortly after this I got a linkpearl, (I spent days wondering why some people had colored orbs next to their names). CowboysFromHell was the first Linkshell I was ever in and I met a lot of people who were helpful and took time to explain how things worked when someone had a question, this was before the end of CFH when things got sort of bad. There is a long list of people I met in CFh that I still know today and some that have moved on, but a few stick out:

Lots more that I am sure I am forgetting but those names come to mind right away.

A couple of days later I met Ninian, I think he was in another time zone because I always bumped into him/her arround 3:00am EST just as I was logging out. Ninian spent probably three hours teaching me how to make macros and basically explaining how to party in the dunes.

A couple weeks later I managed to find the Infamous Brady Guide. It helped me find quests and npc's and I had been warned not to use it for other info so all was good.

Next I figured I would try to rank up. I noticed when I did searches that other people had a little 3 next to their name and I figured I had been arround long enough; I should probably get rid of the 1 next to my name. So I flagged the mission for killing bats in KRT and headed off to find some bats I think I was level 12 at the time. I wandered arround for a while trying to avoid stuff just in case and managed to make my way to this big flat stone looking monument that had a target but no opening. I figured this must be the tomb I am supposed to be checking out. So I zone down into the high level of KRT at like level 12 and start trying to attack bats. Luckily there were a bunch of people there leveling and they raised me and pointed me in the right direction. A nice Galka Bard that was helping a friend of his that just started actually took me to where I was supposed to be before he logged for the night.

I hate journals but I actually wish I had kept some kind of record of when I first started, if nothing else it would be hilarious to go back now and read what I did in the first few weeks.

When I first started, I would type responses to NPCs because I honestly didn't know better. I spent most of my first few days running around Windy and trying to figure out where everything was. (Two years later, I still go the wrong way to Walls.)

I think on day four I finally decided to fight stuff. I know I had a Stone scroll, but I didn't know how to activate it, so my first three levels were staff only. ><

Eventually, I /sh in Windy and someone sent me my first /tell, to which I had to /sh to figure out how to reply.

It took about a week to hit lvl ten and I had n00b syndrome. Clearly I was teh b3st BLM evar. I want to thank everything in Tahrongi for putting me in my place.
 
Pretty much the only thing I remember from way back when is that I met Albrila and Alalai and they was so nice.

They were both 'high level' (30-50 something) and knew everything.
Atleast in my world.
I was surprised they was so nice to me, showing me around and teaching me the basics.
I mean, only online game I played before was CS, and people there are usually not exactly helpful to a beginner :P



Anyhoo, if Alb or Ala read this, thanks alot for taking care of me when I was a newborn :)
 
i spent the 1st few days learning how to equip my sword wondering why some people had a second job atached to them aka subjob and encountering my 1st ls leader/ mentor hyori
 
Wow, lol yeah that was a while ago.

Well, lets see. After making about 20 characters and deleting them, I finally decided on an Elvaan Warrior named Rufus on the Carbuncle server. Two of my friends in real life had gotten me the game as a gift (I had never before even heard of an online game- aside from Diablo II) so I tried it out. We went to Carbuncle and just had a good time together mostly. Eventually after my Elvaan got to level 10, I got bored with the game, and put it down for four months.

Much later on, my buddy Josh persuades me to start over again on the game with them, so it wouldn't feel like a waste of money that we all bought it. We started over on the Quetzalcoatl server to join another friend's cousin, Chandler, who was a level 33 Red Mage at the time (which was considered f*cking elite, lol). So that was the creation of Mistra. Started as a monk. Had a lot more fun than the first time around. Was confused at the prospect of an Auction House, and ended up selling hundreds of Silk Threads to the NPC until I had about... 100k? That pretty much sums up my first ten days.
 
My first week:

I created a character named "Tristamgreen" (Elvaan Male Black Mage).


Tried to level in West/East Ronfaure, got to level 7 BLM. Leveled THF to around 6, and gave up for 5 months.

Picked the game back up last December, deleted the Elvaan {Bastard Sword}, re-created Tristamgreen as a Tarutaru, and have been in love with the game ever since.

First week as Tristamgreen the Tarutaru: got to around lvl12 BLM, lvl13 MNK, lvl10 THF. And my sweet Mithra Stine was beside me the whole way :)
 
I started up almost immediately after the first PC release in the US. I remember walking around wondering why everyone had pumpkins on their heads, and I was envious of anyone that had a pretty colored orb next to their name.

I tried WAR for a little bit, but then I switched to WHM and joined another WAR named Priest at level 2, and thus began my career as a WHM. Shortly after, another friend fronted the money for our very own linkshell "Fellowship," which they elected me as leader, and the six of us stormed Palborough Mines looking for quadav drops to finish our mission. I also remember selling Fire Crystals to NPCs for 12 gil a piece. It was a time when no one knew anything and japanese lvl 70 WHMs were considered sacred.

Times sure have changed. After quitting for two years to accomodate real life concerns, I'm now a new character and a new job. To my knowledge, none of the friends I made in those first 10 days still play FFXI, or at least on Quetz.
 
In my first 10 days back, I got my warrior to 20. Then got my subjob and chocobo. Then I got my blm to 10, and whm to 20. I then got my rank 3. In my first 10 days. Then I slowed down because the lack of sleep from my new addiction and long hours of work caught up to me. I played with a lot of people and made a lot of friends. I've made the majority of my friends through quality dunes parties and my kazham parties that I create. I can build a pretty sick party ^.~ But after the ten days I met two people, renomaru and Kloud, that are really great friends now. Limubai, which is a friend of mines brother RL, is a good friend now. wongfeihong is a RL friend, Hollie, Skiewalker, Pinkubara, Puutah, tubuku, honeyroypalmer, katjara. I have a lot of RL friends on here, about 10 of us total. So after getting myself set up in my first two weeks, I had the foundation to pwn and help to do so. Of course, these 10 days is to me coming back after my 1 1/2 year hiatus. I don't remember what I did with the PS2 launch, but I was on the gilgamesh server.
 
lets see. PS2 version was releaced, went to EB and glared at nasya till she got the box off the shelf, lol j/k

i'd been buggin her with questions about the game for weeks leading up to it so she was expecting me. she came to my atp and got my account and everything all set up and once i was finally inline she went home logged in and followe me around till i was about lvl 5......then threw me to the wolves. :P

i built on what she had taught me about spells, view's and moving around & all that jazz. she also taught me about synthing. my first synth was a yag necklace and a wind crystal. i was like "WTF DID I JUST DO!!!! :shok:" that was day one. (damn i was such a noob)

wasnt long before i made my first ingame friend. a fresh on the board mithra blm named pharah. i saved her from gettin owned by a crab. we spoke for a moment and parted ways. not long after i got in over my head against a mob and called for help. then i see water cast on it out of no where. im like huh? i look behind me and there she was again. needless to say she was my first addition to my friends list.

i hacked and casted my way through lvls (i learned to hate bee's durring this time) and made aquaintences along the way. wasnt long till i got a party invite from a pld in the canyon. i think i was 12 at the time. exp was kind of off (so they said, i had no idea what they ment) so one of them said lets go to the maze? im like "where's that?"
we walked to the maze and had a blast (pld died the first fight too :P). i bumped into pharah again while there and she joined our party. we all wipped and someone from her LS came to raise us. it was then i first saw WHM AF. pharah invited me into her LS by the end of that day and i was exposed to the wonderful world of linkshells.

after hitting 15 in the maze i started hearing about this place called "the dunes". first time i went my party was killing mandies in bubu (i was the puller as a rdm, lol) when a party member said lets go to the dunes? we went and thats when i realized just how crazy this game can get.

all along the way i made a ton of stupid, noobish, mistakes and leared from all of them. without them i wouldnt be the player i am today. those were the days. :)
 
Alright, I got some time now and I think I'll toss up my first 10 days... will be a bit long since I remember it rather well.

When I began the game, I was told to be War, since it was easy and I'd learn how to work it all out. I had a level 47rdm friend who showed me around a little.. In my first 4 days I level grinded and did about 20 supply runs, thinking they were good.. however for over 5 days I had no idea the rest of Windurst existed <.<;;; I walked from Windurst Woods, to East Saruta, up, over to West Saruta, to the Outpost, then back the way I came each time.. I had no idea of Walls, Waters, or Port ^^;. I took war to 13 on my first day but was bored, so decided to begin my other jobs. In the first 2-3 days, I got all 6 jobs to level 10, but Rdm... Rdm was amazing! It killed, healed, and nuked! After this I took war on my first trip to the dunes! (didn't even die in Bubu) but I got on my Ferry, and well.. my luck! I walk up to see this UGLY skeleton pounding on this poor whm... so um.. yeah... Windaria uses Provoke on Blackbeard!
yeah... *giggle* I can't stand to see a kitty get whacked.. he ran over and hit me hard enough to kill me a dozen times+. The whm quickly warped then tele-dem'd ran and raised me and thanked me :3 I sat, lfp for about... 3 hours? Got bored, and wandered through the dunes to Konschtant Highlands where I saw a Galka and a Hume. They asked where I was heading and I said I wanted to see Bastok. These very very kind people, who sadly I cannot recall their name.. guided me to Bastok with zero troubles. I walked in and saw the ugliest city in Vana'diel, stayed for a while (went to bed).
Day 5 I walked back to Windurst, changed to Rdm and solo'd it up to 15. (and yes, I saw Blackbeard -again- on the way back -.-)

I then went back to the Dunes again, this time as Rdm. I saw Blackbeard -again- but stayed well away. When I got to the dunes I saw a Black pony-tailed hume sitting inside the Selbina/Valkurm zone with /away up. Her name... was very pretty.. I am easily sucked in by good names. I sat down across from her and before the animation finished I got a pt invite. This pt I made my first friends, and got my first linkpearl. SandorianSuperstars.. Lucifel and Ravan.. <3 We got 15-18 and they taught me how to SC (I melee'd, it's dunes..) and how to MB (<3 rdm) as well as got everyone in the PT subjob items.
I left and sat in Selbina, and this time the pretty named hume was not away! Sittin there in her Leather gear, a level 13war/mnk. I asked her if she wanted a bit of assistance leveling over in LaTheine.. she was surprised but accepted. We spent a good deal of time there just talking.. talking more than she killed things anyhow. She mentioned she was in an LS with some very nice people and asked if I wanted to join. I, of course, did. So I met up with her elvaan pld friend.. a very very nice man whom I will forever remember for the first weeks of my game life.

After we left that, we went back to Windurst together, no Pirates this time. The next day, I went out and solo'd rdm 18-21 in Maze of Shakhrami.
The next set of days I spent about 14-16 hours every day with the lovely named hume, who I had formed a very close friendship with.. on occasion we had the joy of the sweet pld and his lovely fiance, or the hume pld who never stopped with dirty comments -.-

I did ranks up till 2-3, saw Jeuno, got my chocolicense, and made some great, however short term, friendships.

So my personal thank you's to Lucifel, Ravan, Colett (the pretty named hume of course), Stirce (the heroic pld), Anness (the pld's lovely fiance), and of course Sinhard (the pld with the mouth of a sailer)

(from this stemmed some of the best times of my game life, many weeks of overjoyed times with Col and Stirce and Anness.. even meeting other wonderful people like Astyanax..) I miss those days ... so much.
 
When i first created "Larin" in december of the NA release it was during exam week so i didnt really get to play until christmas time. Started off as a thf, and had lots of fun whacking stuff with a sword. I remember getting really ticked at one point that i couldnt use a shell shield. Went to level a monk to sub it when i got to that point and it was funny at that time to be punching things.

When i got close to lvl 10, i joined my first party with Cohen(whm), Crysa(rdm), Dalton(rng) and Euphacent(drk) and someone else i dont remember? ran around konschat continuously finding sheep to kill. About half an hour in we got really bad goblin aggro and everyone ran like hell to opposite directions. Me and crysa thought we were runnign with the group, but we werent and got lost. I couldnt read a map if my life depended on it at the time so we stopped just so the goblin can come and cut us down while we rested.

Then Valkrum came, first party there was me, Cohen, Crysa, Keits, Naffenu and also a 6th member i forgot? It was a pretty good party, Zeven came running around as a beastmaster with charmed lizards shouting for help, and like the noobs we were, we ran after to try to save him only to find out we couldnt attack hehehe. There was also some other mithra who was trying to solo lizards and failing at it so he/she ran into our camp, died which linked to us, and killed Cohen. Think this happened twice until we bitched her out and she said it was our fault for not curing her. fuuuuuun times. I also remember there was always some japanese redmage in blue/white robes who stood infront of selbina and raised people.

Theres alot of people i levelled up with from valk to qufim who were extremely generous and fun to party with, though it was so long ago, many of them have left.

When my content ID was deactivated i lost alot of screens but luckily i still had some uploaded elsewhere.
