Thief is not a DD job, they are for hate control. Big damage once a minute doesn't make you a DD.
 
i hear over and over again about how great monks are as DD'd. my question is this. where the hell are they and why do they seek for hours on end with no party if they're so great?

i've hardly had them as a dd in my party in the 40-60 range.
 
They don't get invites very often in that range, because everyone is obsessed with doing distortion at those levels, and monk can't participate in that skillchain until level 60 when they get Howling Fist.
 
well thats a stupid reason to overlook a competent DD class. there are more SC's out there then distortion.
 
Yes, it is stupid, but that's why they don't get picked up a lot. I liked the fact that I didn't get picked up and I'd rock the crabs harder than the distortion skillchain would. One party I built during that level range was 3 mnk, a nin, a whm and a brd. We tore through crabs in boyahda tree and got some great exp.
 
I would have made it a poll, but there were too many combinations to do so.


It looks as if mnk/war is the favorite at this point.

I remember a certain mnk doing a 13 raging fists, then a 7...hmmmm...who was that :P

but ya, mnks own pretty much, i still like the war/nin since it does fit into SCs easier than a mnk does. And closing that ever popular distortion helps out in noob parties.

Lol, I remember that, but I also remember your sidewinder(pre-nerf) not pulling hate off me later on. I agree with the skillchain thing, Monk owns making fusion and impaction, but not much else until 65+. Although part of a war's adaptability on the SC chart is due to them being able to use a variety of weapons.

It always depends on skill and gear...
not to mention mob, pt setup, etc.

But given uber skill and gear and a nin tank that never lost hate, I'd take an "uber" mnk/war anyday any lvl (40-59) on any mob. At 40, they get the insanely overpowered brown belt and raging fists soon after. Stacked monk pt's have some damn high potential even at that stage. From 50-51 they get
1. double attack from sub
2. kick attacks...

both of which raise tp and dmg output tremendously.

War/nin with hauby spamming rampage starts to take over in my opinion. I've seen 800+ on gobs in kuftal at 59 and 1k+ on torama at 61 (i'm guessing amemet+1 played a factor), so 59 and on I'd be hard pressed to say monk remain #1.

Of course then monk get howling fist so it's not all that clear.

Drk/war also deserve some consideration as well as sam for its versatility, but they are more situational.

Hmm i'll say in the 40's and 50's your best DD's are gonna be Mnk/War and War/Nin. At lvl 60 IMO your best DD's will be..

1) Drk/Thf- for mad dmg along with SATA, not to mention MB capability albeit minimal
or
2) Sam/Thf- for multiple WS's, SC's, SATA WS. Fairly self explanatory but his combo can be deadly
or
3) Thf/Sam- if you can SATA WS every 30 secs... explain to me how this job isn't a DD??

*Off Topic* Can a high lvl Mnk give some quick advice plz?

Here's the scenario... our static has been lvling in Labrynth of Onzozo lately fighting Toramas... the Mnk in our pty is fully equipped w/ SH, Life Belt and uses +Acc food but still *whiffs* a lot. Is this fairly normal for a Mnk?? is there any advice i could offer him to minimize this any?? Any advice is appreciated.
 
well here's another thing that seem odd to me. in this game, originally, Drk's were supposed to be the melee heavy hitters right? is it the weapons they use that seems to be holding them back? or is it something else?
