Oh, in that case the sentance is fine both ways :)

He is coming too. (He is coming with us.)
He is coming to. (He is coming out of an unconsious state.)

English is so much fun o_o;

Yeah, but the point was to misuse "too" in place of "to"

So while grammatically fine either way, the context was wrong.

Variations; Thier, liek (when used repeatedly, not a typo)

On another note; one should always care how one types on the internet, people may think you're an idiot if you can't spell right, or even don't bother to read your post if you type like some <insert your favorite flame here>. Then there is those, like me, for whom English is only a second language.

Most of all I get a rash when people misspell on purpose, unless they're doing it to be cute (my own sin: "..me as RNG/NIN for teh WIN!"). I see a tendency in Swedish as well, the younger generation is corrupting our language (die, alright!).

When I type in forums I'm particularly sensitive about my grammar (another fine word sometimes misspelled as grammer, leave your grandmother out of it ;) ) and spelling. When I type in chats on the other hand, I usually skip capital letters unless its Moat Carp or La Theine (Thien Thiene Thenie), and I type "dont" and "wouldnt" instead of "don't" and "wouldn't". Speaking of which, should it be "can´t" or "can't"? ;)

I am also guilty of using "alot" instead of "a lot" (see also "iguess" and "I guess") and a lot of abbreviations which to me seem obvious ("MC" for Moat Carp) but sometimes leaves people looking like :?: Swedish punctuation differ a bit from English, I am probably using a mix of the two. For me English and Swedish are equal languages (in my head), I seldom translate words to Swedish. Funny though how I can always seem to find the English word for something, and not being able to translate it to Swedish. This is what you get from watching unsubbed movies for 15 years (unless it's some language I don't understand of course).

Writing in forums and chats adds another dimension to the text also. You are able to define your mood within the text, and highlight those moods by using smilies. I wouldn't want to read a Stephen King novel with smilies. :twisted: I often use parentheses to add afterthought and clarification. When I can't find the proper spelling of a word I use www.askoxford.com.

To sum it all up; If you can type properly, do so, there are no excuses not to - and I do forgive typos. :D

Don't mind me... I'm telepathetic... 8)

2 - Number - This is a special case...numbers are not supposed to be used unless it is a large number - somewhere above 100 or so, but most people dont follow this rule

For the industry I work in (journalism), the standard rule is that everything nine and below are written out as words. Everything higher is written out as the number.

Hehe man that is pretty embarrasing. I never claimed to know the difference between right and write though, to my credit :wink: . Well when you are bored, one cant expect to be up to par. But you noticed, and that is what makes me happy! Now I have never admitted to molesting little boys though :twisted: , so dont make me direct everyone to Mist's posts...

One thing I'd like to add if I could...

You cannot "corrupt" a language. Languages (unless they are dead ie. Latin) are dynamic and ever changing. This includes spelling as well as word usage. You can try and tell people to stop saying certain things eg. "Do you got one?" (have) or "I can spell good enough" (well) but those are pretty much the norm among young people and there is nothing you can do about it hehe. So, instead of getting mad at young people for "corrupting" English, or any other language, take a step back and marvel at how quickly (and sometimes strangely) it changes.

Yeah this is all totally unecessary, but as you can see, it is important. Even those who profess to know it well make mistakes (me). I dont care about people doing it in game so much, although I cant stand seeing 2 and u in place of the word, but when this transfers over to real life.....not cool. I dont mean boards either, but when your friends show you a paper and it has stupid ass errors in em, makes me want to hit someone. It makes you look stupid, trust me. When you try and write a paper or an article or something, and you can't use there and their or too and to, you shouldn't be writing.

About that other stuff, the too and to reference. Sorry I should have picked a better sentence :cry: . Lol man I look stupid now... /em Hides!

Where did I molest little boys o_O;

And yes, it's pretty disgusting when your college proffessor displays someone paper written in AOLspeak. You've got to be able to turn it off. I've seen letters to the Dean with 'u' '2' and 'sposed' in them... All I can say is, Neo: "Whoa..."
