A thought came to me recently when I was playing FFX and fighting Yunalesca. At some point during that battle, she casts Zombiega (not the official name, but you get the idea.)

As most of you probably know, Zombie is a status effect that reverses the effect of healing items and spells. Cure spells deal damage, Life spells instantly killed your enemy. (In FFX only as far as I know.)

Also while zombified, spells like Bio, Poison and Death had no effect on you. Giving you a double sided sword.

Well I was thinking of the many ways it could have been implemented in FFXI. Probably as a DRK spell but defenitly beneficial to the PLD. Which brings me to my point.Couldnt Zombie be a very possible spell in the game?

While zombified, mobs could take maybe double damage from divine magic and partial damage from healing magic, but gain resistance to Dark magic. Dia would be more effective while Bio would be less effective.

Im not saying Raise should be an instant death attack, but Cure III doing some nice damage. Which brings me to my next point.

Giving PLD zombie or, having a DRK support a PLD, would allow them to have a sort of DD option via their cure spells. A good PLD can keep hate using their own cure spells to heal themselves, so they could possibly gain even MORE hate by dealing damage with said heal spells.

Then given the PLDs Banish and Holy spells, it could turn the job in a new direction rather than the casual tank. PLD would actually be able to contribute to the damage factor and making them even BETTER tanks. Though this may put them ahead of NIN even more than usual.

Zombie has been one of my favorite spells and I never really realized how much PLD could benefiet from it in this game.

Of course...eventually you will start to see 5 WHM and a DRK or PLD in White Magic Manaburn Parties.

Zombie was in FF6 as well, and it was far more evil in FF6 (came with a Confused/Charmed effect and could not be Remedied).

I could see it being possible in XI but not quite the way you envision it, especially the PLD thing - cures don't add up to that much, damage wise.

Plus the pal wouldn't be able to heal himself, and typically in ff11 paladins heal themselves a lot during a fight.

I was just saying to my party the other day in bibiki bay how nice a zombie status would be in this game while fighting those damn Dhalmels. It would help with healing breeze and them recovering 1000+ hp >.<

LOL! Zombie would be great against self-healing mobs...
And, for the record, zombie was also in FF8, there were multiple bosses that were based around the zombie status.

Yeah I remember the train boss was a zombie, though I could never get a pheonix down to hit him ;.;

Also if there was a zombie status in FF11, a raise probably shouldn't kill them but it should do some good damage. I know in FF10 if the monster was zombied I could cast life on it and hit for about 7k-10k damage.

Technically, the effect already exists. It's the undead class of mobs. All it would have to be is a spell that makes you be considered undead.

Walkin to the sealed cave my first time through, got zombie status...

Ok, well lets go use a remedy..

Text on remedy reads "Cures all status Ailments Except Zombie".

Fuckin... FUCK.

In FF6, I think zombie isn't a confused mode, but you do autoattack and have no control over your actions. Cure spells do damage, but poison spells give hp back.

It's a confused mode in FF6. A zombie can and will attack his/her party members.

Confused players would attack only party members.

Zombies have 0 hp, can't be felled in combat, and randomly attack anyone on the screen with regular attacks.

I've had Confused players attack enemies.

I'm almost done replaying the game atm.. <.<
