I urge you all to give them a chance. Okkervil River will be releasing their last album for a while in August, but it leaked a couple of days ago, and if any of you have time you should check it out. It's called The Stand Ins and it's an addendum to their last album, The Stage Names. They...

You guys are lame. >> I should change the title to, "Opportunity to inconspiciously post simply the names of bands that will make you cool by association," or maybe, "Musssiiiicc!! Pt. 2," in hopes of creating a successor to our most popular thread. :P I joke.

Haven't heard Sigur Ros in a couple of years. Thanks for the update, I'll check it out. They've got an interesting sound.

Big Star covers of 'Til the End of the Day, and Nature Boy, by the Kinks and Nat Cole, respectively.

Jeez, Lennon and McCartney. Just listen to Hey Jude. I also love Okkervil River's Will Sheff. He's such a technically poor singer, but he sings so passionately. When he screams, his voice trembles in a way that makes each word resonate through your body and dwell in your head until you're...

This thread is about pop. Not your little sister's pop, but about pop back when pop was a real medium, rather than a spectacle - back when it had something to say. So the question: What's your favorite group of the genre, and why? For me, the answer is easy. I love Big Star. Big Star...

I'm getting very sick of this moron. "Then don't read my posts," he'll say, but, I'm forced to look at them, as is everyone else, because they make up every other fucking thread on the flameboad. It fills me with rage. Fills me with rage.

I want a Mario Paint remake. I don't know what else they could do, but I want it, nonetheless.

Well said. The, "this nation was founded on Christian values," (or worse, "Christian Nation") statement is one I have particular disgust with. Many of the founding fathers were Deists, many Protestant. What Trippy said fills in the blanks on how the most prominent of the founding fathers felt.

Because Christians are all for the First Amendment. I'll grant that it was indeed an amendment, but it was amended very promptly as it was the most crucial to guaranteeing civil liberties. The beliefs behind the amendment were in the mind of Jefferson for many, many years before writing the...

The founding fathers weren't Christian, nor did they have any reverence for its teachings. The majority were Deists (Those who believe that there exists a God, but he has had nothing to do with the universe since creating it. They believe that science and reason are all that are required to make...

Band: Okkervil River. Album: Black Sheep Boy. Song: So Come Back, I'm Waiting.

This is the most deplorable modern atrocity I have ever read about. I don't advocate the death penalty, though I'm tempted to say he deserves far worse than it. I hope he never sees the outside of a solitary confinement chamber for as long as he lives. It is difficult to see someone such as he...

Well shit, in the Old Testament, it was. Sin was a disease that was transmitted to new life through the semen. Jesus supposedly died to lessen that burden. Christianity has its bases covered, Myrrh.

Unfortunately, this is the attitude held by the vast majority of the Western world. Were the Christian God truly benevolent (According to the Bible, he isn't, and doesn't want you to be to anyone else unless they share your [Jewish] faith,) I would hope this is true as well. If I'm confronted...
