So I get home from work around 11pm last night and get a call from a friend saying our 10 year high school reunion was last night and asking if I was going to show up. It really surprised me, as I was expecting something in the mail to tell me when it was going to happen, but I never got it (I graduated high school in 1998, btw).

Anyway, I show up and out of the 1000 or so people in my graduating class, only about 150 or so showed up. I found a group of my old friends and we chatted for a while -- one is in movies, another crunches numbers for business firms, another is an architect, etc. I had a good time and stayed at the BAR it was at (yeah) until around 2:30am and eventually came home after having quite a few jack 'n cokes.

The weird thing about this, however, is the way they planned/scheduled this event. The school didn't mention anything about it on their website and did not mail notifications to anyway. The entire thing was planned through facebook, so those without a facebook profile were not notified of the reunion. Many of the people there just heard about it through proxy.

I think that's pretty crappy.

A lot of parties are set up through stuff like face book I find.

Most reunions that I know of aren't run through the school, they're just put together by the former students. My 10-year reunion was organized and run by one of my friends, who tracked people down through Classmates.com.

Nah, back in the day, at least when my Dad and his siblings were in school, they had a committee for it, much like Yearbook staff, etc. The school I graduated from had the same deal. A few people in charge of gathering us up for events such as reunions. The only two schools I've ever known to take direct action in a reunion is Jacksonville State University and Auburn University. My Dad gets letters in the mail from Auburn about once a month for planned events for graduated students. His high school reunion letters come from the student council group, which heads his high school reunion group. I got my five year reunion letter in the mail a few years ago and it was from a girl I graduated with who was in charge of my class' events. The best way to stay notified about these things is to find out who is in charge and give them a way to contact you. I personally don't use classmates.com, facebook, myspace, etc. so every time I move or something I send a letter to my school and they relay my contact info to the necessary parties.

I got a notice through Classmates.com for my Reunion and I turned it down. Never got anything in the mail etc. However I keep getting this postcard in the mail wanting to know certain things about me so they can update some certain thing about my graduating class. I keep throwing them away. I never was anyone in High School but the shy quiet kid that everyone ignored so I just never cared for catching up.

Wow! my 5 year was over the summer.. YAH.. we did a 5 year. And it was done through face book. That's the stupidest thing I'd ever heard. Also.. They did it at a bar. The biggest chochiest frat boy bar ever.. So my friends and I didn't go. We went to a different bar. The party ended up finding us though. The people we actually wanted to see..lol. But it was still stupid. I hope out 10 year is planned better.

Glad to see some people actually enjoy meeting their HS 'friends' again.

The ones I didn't care to keep in contact with for the past 5 years, I really don't care about D;.

But yeah the facebook thing is retarded, lack of better terms.

Pfft, most of the high school peeps i know ended up the complete opposite of what they were in high school. The jocks got fat, bald, and ugly; the cheerleaders and "hot" girls all got preggo and now look like shit. I see them around town at times and they try to say hi and shit, but I prefer just to ignore them XD

its SUPPOSED to be up to the class prez to set up the reunions. but alot of times they dont. my 10 year was in 05 but no one in know was invited. it was one of those, "hey, you were popular in HS, you wanna come to the reunion". i wasnt invited. personally, most of my HS class could go burn in hell for all i could care.

I noticed that.

Young and ugly = Older and hot.

Young and decent = Older and shitgasugly.

It's so true.

Meh reunions. I already keep in touch with the few people I cared about.

Dude, exact same thing happened to me pretty much. I got an invite to my 10 year this past summer (I also graduated in 1998) on facebook and after inquiring about how many people were going to be there (I went to a private school so my graduating class was only 34 people *lol*) I was given a number of “about 10 or so”. Totally lame imo because we were so small we all got along really well. After some persuading, the organizer sent out invites via mail but because she did it so late, we only ended up having about 11-12 people (+spouses).

I love when you run into people you graduated with out in the real world, and they talk to you as if you were best friends forever. Meanwhile, you have never spoken more than three words to said person in your entire life, but still end up sitting through the same old "How's school/work/life" conversation that you go through. Sometimes I like to make up things just to see how they react.

"Yeah, I'm a cosmonaut now. Crazy world, right?"
