Parents are "supposed" to talk about the birds and the bees...
Which... is education. Education doesn't just happen in schools you know.
Parents are "supposed" to talk about the birds and the bees...
How about that pregnancy pact they had on the news last year?? A bunch of friends go out and have sex with random men including a 22 year old street bum just so they can all have kids and raise them together. When asked how they would care for the children....you guessed it they said WELFARE!
I love how nearly every person who has participated in this discussion IF using "slang insults" to describe the teens involved only did so to the females. Sluts, whores...
Just to be clear, I'm not part of that. My usage was mocking the "shame the slut" attitude, because I'm not big on blaming women for being sexual beings. That "Nice girls don't do it" taboo really needs to hurry up and finish dying.
That's fine. I wasn't pointing at any one person, just those who tend to attach slanderous names to females in such situations without giving any mention to the males involved in negative fashion.
Girls can't impregnate themselves.
This is not as sick as the case in Michigan~ a 10 year old girl was taught a game by her older brothers friend~ Yes you can guess what that game was. The courts ordered her to go to the next state over to have an abortion.
This is false. No one can force you to accept any medical treatment or agree to any procedure in the US, even if you are a minor.

You don't understand do you~ The STATE LAW would not let her get the abortion in michigan. At the age of 10 the chances of her not having a c-section is nearly 0. Her body would suffer irreperable harm, and a good chance of death. Pregnancy would infact be seen as a serious threat to her life. A 10 year olds body is not made to delvery a 7lb baby. Mind you more babies are atleast 8lbs 21 inches long. Many 1st time mothers require stitches. This child would be ripped in two. Her family WANTED to get her the abortion, but the state would not allow a doctor there to do it. So the Judge allowed her to go out of state for the procedure.
A minor under the age of 12 can be given any procedures the parents sign for. It is believed that a child under that age will not fully understand what is being explained to them. Kinda like how children who kill someone are not put on death row.
Yeah, there's a huge difference between saying a judge forced a 10-year-old to get an abortion and the judge simply paving the way to make it happen because the kid wanted one and couldn't get it.
In my province, sexual education started in grade 5 (age 10-11) for girls, because this is when most girls started to get their periods. I know it can happen sooner now. They gave us a booklet about periods, sex, pregnancy, STIs, etc. We were told by our teacher not to show the boys the booklet, but I showed some guys anyways on the bus ride home, despite the protest of another female classmate. I never really have seen the big deal. If the girls were able to know about it, why not the boys? They're part of the whole sexual process after all... Then from grade 6 to grade 8, you would get one week of sexual education in the school year, with no segregation of the sexes. By grade 8, they knew that we knew if you put a penis in a vagina, you could get a STD or a child out of it, so they would start talking about other issues around sex. I remember one day the nurse asked us to bring in magazine/newspaper ads using sex for advertising means.
In grade 9, part of the Physical Education credit meant one month learning about health - including a unit on sexual education once again. A few girls didn't even know what blow jobs were at that age (This was 1999-2000, by the way, in a high school in a small town lol).
I personally had parents who taught me about sex when I was in kindergarten. My mom had just gotten into breeding horses, and seeing that she was a farm girl, she herself was subjected to this type of education lol. My mom woke my brother and I up at 4-5 am in the morning one day right before school to watch one of our mares give birth. She then purchased a video called "Where did I come from?" for us to watch, after she explained the mechanics of sex to us.
I am sure that some people would say that this is 'too young', but it was my mom's choice to teach her children at that age, and her choice of method. I can honestly say that learning about sex did not make me want to go out and try it for my own, like some critics argue will happen if kids know about it sooner, or caused any other problems for me that supposedly talking about sex sooner does to you - the fear of birthing a child was enough to keep me from experiencing it until I was old enough to be responsible for my own decisions.
That's about when I started finding out. Aunts and Uncles who are younger than my parents started having kids when I was young and I asked questions about "So.. how did that happen?" and they and my parents told me. My best friend, whom is expecting her first child (married for 4 years), in May grew up raising horses with her mother in Indiana and her explaination was pretty much exactly what yours was Zeph. I think thats prefect. And, no better way to put the fear of pregancy and willingness to abstain in a young person, than to let them watch the birthing process (be it human or zoological).
