2008 MLB Playoffs Start Today...

Sox win!

Jon Lester is officially the man.

I really feel for Mike Scioscia though. He just had a real classy post game interview where he wished the sox well in the ALCS and fielded some tough questions about disappointment and his thoughts on the winning team. You could tell how hard it was for him to answer those questions but he did so in a way that really showed what a great manager he is.

I guess I should feel even worse for him considering K-Rod, Teixeira and Vlady are all free agents and could very well be looking elsewhere for 2009.

The Rays scare the shit out of me though. Where's the crazy Wakefield knuckleball in Tropicana when you need it...

Gooooood I love my Redsox. Lowrie is quickly becoming the man. I look for Pedy to step it up against the Rays though. The Rays are gonna be a really tough opponent, but I think with Lester, Daisuke, and Beckett pitching twice each in a 7-game series I feel really good about our chances.

As for the subject of K-Rod, I continue to make my argument that he is the most overrated pitcher in baseball. Scioscia is definitely a class act, though.

And of course, Lester is the fucking man.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Start Timmy in Game 1! He didn't pitch as well there this year as he did last year, but I don't think it would be a bad move to consider. Still, I'd expect to see him in there in some form or another, possibly in middle relief?

Regardless, Go Sox!!!!

Well I was half right. Looks like he's getting the Game 4 start as of right now. Timmy's always been money in the Championship Series', even dating back to 1992 with the Pirates. Fuck, he could've been MVP of that series, pitching two complete games, if Barry Bonds could've thrown out Sid fucking Bream. 2003, Two money wins, and then unfortunately gives up the shot to Aaron fucking Boone. Still, he always comes up big, and is fully rested and healthy, so it's exciting. Hopefully Game 4 will be the clincher!

Tampa Bay tied it up !

That home plate umpire was fucking horrendous. The called third strike to Kotsay was a good 3 inches off the plate, and the no-call to Zobrist from Timlin was right down the middle of the fuckin plate. I don't think the no-call from timlin really changes the game, but the called 3rd strike to Kotsay certainly could have.

The real bad news for me is that Beckett looked fucking terrible. Good thing we have Lester going game 3, makes me feel a bit better.

Agreed half of the pitches that were called balls were really strikes and vice versa.

Some of Beckett's fastballs were as low as 88. I noticed this right away and would have pulled him by the 3rd inning. The umpire was awful, but so was Beckett. This tells me that he either:

A) is still hurt and trying to be a super hero a la Curt Schilling in '04 or

B) hasn't thrown enough to build the arm strength back from being out for so long.

In either case, Lester's game is now a big one. We can't give a young team like Tampa the confidence to win against our best pitcher in our house.

If the sox lose game 3, I think they lose the series, especially with Wake (50/50 shot to either pitch lights-out or get lit up) going in game 4.

Honestly, I'm leaning towards B. Lester is gonna be lights out tomorrow I think. I dunno though man, sometimes when we need Wake to pitch a great game he can do it... he's pretty clutch like that.

/sigh I was really tired today lol, the 5+hour game killed me

Looks like it's on my shoulders tonight.

I need you, bad. The next 6 months of my life are solely on your shoulders(I love my Boston Sports <3). Mostly. The Sox came back from down 3-1 last year, but the Indians weren't as good as the Rays are.

*#&$#$ man 3 runs in the first??? Yaahh killin me Smalls!

Seriously wtf.

/sigh. God damn I hate being so attached to my sports teams. I swear I go through bouts of clinical depression anytime they lose.

I'm right there with ya man. I don't even know what to do with myself right now. I was literally just pacing in the living room for like 10 minutes before I realized I was doing it cause of the game.

3-1 comeback magic please. Thank God they have a day off to regroup and let the Rays' bats cool down. There is hope...but this one hurts.

My only consolation is that we have 3 really good pitchers going in those three games. Hopefully they all come out in top shape, and hopefully they all get the chance to pitch. I turned the game off.... which I don't often do. :/ It's times like these that I wish I didn't give a shit about sports. Grrrrrrrrr!

It's true, but honestly... it's like a 20% chance when Wake pitches that he's gonna get THUMPED, a 20% chance that he's gonna be unhittable, and the other 60% he's gonna give you 6 innings giving up 3-4runs. We got the wrong 20% today.

I was hopin' he'd do better. That fuckin' ball he left hangin' the third, wow... I could have bombed that over the Green Giant. That has to be the worst pitch in the history of baseball right there. You're right though. Knuckle-ballers, while fun to watch and as good as they are, when they are off they are horrendous. I remember a wooden bat tourney when I was playin' high school ball where we made it to the final game to face a knuckle-baller who was eatin' everyone up. My pops pitched us knuckle balls until his arm was Jello before hand and we massacred the poor bastard. I've never seen balls hit so far and so long from kids in my entire career up to that point. You'd swear we'd pulled a George Brett.

lol, a knuckleball that doesn't knuckle is a BP pitch, lol. I could have hit Wake's knuckler over the fuckin monster today. Although I was a pretty good baseball player for years lol.
