The upcoming version update will usher in the "Augments" system, a new feature that will shatter your preconceptions about equipment and breathe new life into some of your most treasured pieces of armor.

Any veteran adventurer knows the feeling:
A beloved breastplate that served you in countless epic battles...
A cherished cuirass that fended off many a vicious enemy blow...
Equipment once treasured, now auctioned off for a purseful of gil or relegated to a dank, lonely corner of your Mog House in favor of more potent apparel better suited to your burgeoning abilities.
What could be done to give these items a longer lease on life? This is the question we asked ourselves, and in the next version update, you can experience the answer—the new Augments system!

Let's examine how it will work.

As illustrated above, players will be able to customize certain pieces of equipment by adding two augments of their choice to supplement the item's base attributes. This new feature will allow for two pieces of armor bearing the same name to possess distinct capabilities, specially tailored to complement the skills of the wearer.
A wealth of heretofore unseen diversity in adventuring attire awaits you!

Needless to say, the development team is hard at work to ensure that augmented items can be enjoyed by the widest possible range of adventurers, while preserving game balance with existing items available through questing and synthesis. Furthermore, to maintain the items' exclusivity, it will not be possible to trade them to your companions, nor sell them via the auction house or bazaars. Adventurers looking to acquire augmented equipment will have to do so by their own courage and valor!

We'll be sharing even more information on this exciting new feature come release day, so be sure to check back for all the latest details!

Wow the possibilities....better stock up on those cheap items while they're still cheap.

This looks pretty cool. Can't wait for more info ;o.

Sweet. I'm one of those crazy pack rat types who keeps lowbie armor, so this could be very nice. Not being able to trade it will suck, since that means I can't store it on my mules. Still, it's a nice addition.

I am thinking that this is gonna be one of those upgrade it to where you want it and drop it type things... cause im already fucked for room most of the time.

Holy crap, my mule with all of my low-level gear from 1-50 for my jobs suddenly went up in value! lol It's similar to enchanting I guess, if comparing to other MMORPG's. Obviously, since Augmentation makes it in "AUG" status, which is essentially exclusive (EX), it's obvious it won't be done with crafting. Only thing I can think of is that it will only work on gear with no listed mod's, and must be done via an NPC.

That said, I wonder if items with latents will benefit from this. Things like kung fu shoe's or dune boots and such... I mean, if you take dune boots and put str on it, that's a decent piece then right? I'm no monk, but the capability to add str onto an item with a latent to your kick attacks can only help. Especially with footwork + Dragon kick, if the situation so calls for it.

that looks hot, time to stack up some of those gears that hardly see the light of the day.

i wonder will each piece will have specific upgrade for it. time to say bye to bounding boot after 60+ lvls

It'd be fun if you could stack attributes as well, like making a Noble's Tunic with 3 MP Refresh on it. I'm sure we won't be that lucky.

I see sevral big problem with this. The fact that is you won't be able to trade the armor means unless they let you store it somehow it going be taking up your moghouse. I don't know about you but I already have issue moving stuff around in my house to add low level augmented gear I shudder at the thought. Plus price on equipment will go up because people won't be able sale them back to ah, and before crafter yay profit don't forget price of mats will most likly go up to. Bet you +1 gear wont be augmentable either.

this could cut down the mountain of gear i have to lug around on blm. +refresh on every piece...... yeah that aint gonna happen.
hatse and str on dune boots.... yeah that aint gonna happen ... we can dream tho
im going to guess that this will only apply to non EX stuff that said being able to enhance your relic or AF could be interesting or..... even more powerful salvage gear..... yeah that aint gonna happen
still this is made of win

I doubt they'd let me do this, but if I could add haste to my ebody, or acc/dex to ares /drool

I wonder if this is only gonna be for gear that gives no stat boosts, i wonder if youll be allowed to augment a SH or Hauby

likely that you can only augment items that don't already do things. Like adding MP to a doublet. Good for lowbies, but don't be expecting to add Haste to your E.Body.

Please say that refresh to body is one of the augments...

Or "Refresh Effect" in general. Imagine if RDM could put a Refresh effect on a piece like feet or waist.

I doubt they'd let me do this, but if I could add haste to my ebody, or acc/dex to ares /drool

Would be dreamy.

It does seem like a good idea, but lets not let this affect the price of gear greatly. Alot of new players already have a hard enough time affording gear.

I am almost wondering if perhaps augmentations will require items and/or gil to attain. If so, it's possible that more beneficial augments might require rarer items and/or more gil. Either way, this seems like a very nice addition, but I'll leave it at that until I truly see how things will work out on it..
