So yeah, my ex wife has a 30 GB Zune, and due to a glitch with the date system, all 30 GB zune players out there have completely stopped working. It doesnt turn on or anything.
Theres a work around to fix it, but that work around doesnt really help because if you hook it up to add anything to the zune, it automatically fails again.
So y2k came late, and it only came for the Zune so far!

Goddamn, mine did it too. I just bought it at work when it got marked down to $100. Ffffffffffffffffffffffuck

Microsoft believes it has identified the bug and expects all 30GB Zunes to revive tomorrow, January 1. "Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used)," reads a new statement from the company. "The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year.

"That being the case, the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow, you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device."

Let's hope this is the case

I wonder if my iPod still works >.> I never use it anymore lol

Funny. My best friend asked for a Zune for his Birthday. I told him why the hell does he want such a thing ? His PC can do all of what the Zune does plus he's lazy. "He doesn't get out much. He said he wanted a 128 GB Zune after i suggested the 30 GB. So his Girlfriend and i joined forces and we got him a 128 Zune.

As i predicted it was a waste of money cause he does fuck all with it. At the very least I'm glad it's still functional ( I think )

This is why you don't buy an offbrand ipod.

It's actually not offbrand so much as just the microsoft version.

Reguardless, fuck owning either of them. itunes sucks, and so does the zune software. I have an mp3 player that you just add files to like any other external drive and I don't have to fool with any of that bullshit.

Wiser words were never spoken.

Creative Zen 8gb suits me just fine, it's never touched a Windows machine, and it never will. And I can load movies and most file formats onto it with ease.

Yay, works again

Damn straight. I don't have an ipod, but I do have itunes installed in my computer because I have a friend who has one and shes on my comp all the time. Damn thing is so annoying, glad I don't have to use it for myself.

I know, it was a joke.

I haven't had any problems at all with itunes. I only use it to throw new music onto my ipod, and it's worked better than most of the other programs that I've tried for other other mp3 players. Unless you let it be the default program for everything, it's presence is almost non-existent. Lots of people complain about itunes, but never say why; since I haven't noticed anything wrong/annoying about it, I'm getting the feeling they're overly picky or just bitching for it's own sake.

Creative mp3 players are completely dead to me, ever since both my and my sister's zen micros broke(twice within a year) due to shitty manufacturing on creative's part. We fixed both of them the first time since there was instructions on the internet, but then both broke irreparably; then we both got ipods and haven't had a single problem.

How do you get music onto your zen if you don't plug it into a computer?

Linux PC.
So, the exact same way as you would a windows PC or a mac; but because it's not using windows it somehow makes a difference?

Its not often that I agree with a Linux Fanboi! I couldn't agree more in this case except that mine has touched Windows often.

Mental osmosis.

It does make a difference, actually. It makes a difference in principle, not in the physical way it's done, aside from the fact that I don't have to use iTunes or WMP to "sync" my playlists.

I just use m y 30 dollar sony ericson walkman phone and stereo bluetooth headset. I see no point to a dedicated mp3 player. Get a music phone and a big mem card cheap online. Decent speakers built in too and headphones included.

I don't see why people are so obsessed with high storage space on their portable players. I mean do they really use those 24/7? i mean come on, you only use those when you're heading out. And yes, you can watch videos on it, but isn't it dangerous? shouldn't you be watching road before you get hit by a running galka? I see no point wasting $$$ for huge storage space, when 4GB is enough to hold 1000+ song or couple of hr of video.

itune... why use them if their music have some kind of protection on it. P2P = ftw :P although is illegal, but saving you from money spending addiction. And i don't see a no point buying those music. You like the music, you buy them, downloaded, enjoy it, get bored in 3 month, then spend more again for new music release.

Ipod... why not just get PSP? ipod is just a brand name i don't see why people keep buying them since they're so expenive. And it can make you go deaf, just get PSP, you can listen music, video, and EVEN PLAY GAMES for the same amount of price while sacrificed storage space.

this is just my opinion toward about portable music/video player since Antty mention about storage space :3

Thats where its at. I had the Sony W580 phone and all though I have a new phone I still use that as my MP3 player. Pluger in, copy the files to the folder and you're good to go. No syncing bullshit or converting all your files to a different format. Just a quick and easy copy and you're all set. The one reason I wouldn't get an iPhone is because iTunes is a piece of shit.

Different people have completely different needs. If you take a lot of long trips, 1-2 hours of video might not be enough. I have a 30GB ipod video that's got about 1 gig of music on it, and the rest I just use as a portable hard drive; and it's great for that. I've got a ton of space, it's small, and I can listen to music while I'm moving it from one place to the next.

Itunes sells DRM free software for the same price as the DRM'd software. I download almost all of the music that I have; just throw it in a folder that itunes monitors and transfers it to my ipod; works great.

One reason lots of people buy ipods is because there's a million accessories for them. There's thousands of docks, car connections, home theater connections, and even alarm clocks(I have one, actually). Yes, you can plug the $10 mp3 players into many of them, but you lose functionality and they don't stay charged.

What makes it a piece of shit? Lots of people hate Itunes, but no one ever explains why. I haven't had any problems with it, so I just don't get why everyone bitches about it all the time; I guess they just can't use it correctly.

I'm going to get a phone soon(probably an iphone) that will have mp3 playback on it. As much as I don't need the feature(more battery drain? no thanks), there have been many times where I wanted to listen to music but I forgot to bring my ipod with me and this would solve that problem. It is the best option if you don't want to carry two devices or if you're frequently without one of them like I am.

I love my 30GB ipod and I love itunes, no one is taking that away from me!!!

I have about 75 gb of music on my computer and about 120gb of video. I just like putting the whole music collection on my mp3 player and setting it to random. I get more of a selection than all the radio stations in Knoxville combined. That's why I need a lot of space.

I don't like itunes because...

When I first used it, it was a long time ago it used up such a large amount of system resources it made most computers take a shit on themselves. Apple never fixed that, but technology caught up though.

Then there is the issue of the m4a format. Why? Is that really neccesary? Great, now people have music files on their iPod that I can't play on my mp3 player.

Not like I could get a copy of it anyway, as i would have to install itunes on my computer before I can look at what is on your iPod unless I want to do it in itty bitty eye-strain-o-vision.

Ok, now I have itunes installed, let me give you some of my music... What do you mean your not allowed? You need to "Jailbreak" your ipod before you can share music with more than 3 computers?

Then there is the fact that winamp or for that matter Windows Media Player is a supperior program for playing any type of media (except m4a or m4v).

So fuck iTunes.
