30 GB Zune get the Y2K syndrome?

I think people dislike itunes so much because it takes forever to start up, no matter how good your computer is. Also when you sync your player to it, you can't use any other sources to stick in songs. If your PC is formatted, you have to wipe out your songs to keep using it at all. So stupid. All the advantages are useless to me. I organize all my songs already by artist in a file tree. As a portable player, my sony ericson does the same.

Which was all the reason I needed to choose my Zen instead of the iPod.

I personally own a 2gb one, which is enough because when I feel like listening to something different it takes no more then a few minutes to format it and transfer a new set of songs.
And when a friend has a nice album I'd like to listen to or use my laptop instead of my desktop to transfer songs to my player I do not have to worry about deleting the entire content.
As for the Zune, might have picked that if they were even fully available here.

It takes me 12 seconds from double click to being able to do stuff in itunes, hardly forever; my computer's pretty good, but it's hardly top of the line, either. Ironically, it takes the same amount of time to load up POL.

If all you want is to organize it by artist, the ipod does that automatically too. When you select music from the main menu, you have the choice of looking at the music organized by playlist, artist, albums, genres, or titles.

When choosing a nice mp3 player I went with an 80gig zune... mainly because I like the way itunes and zune orginize their music, and no zune has never come preloaded with viruses.

Funny you should mention that. My cousin that I live with has the red 80 gig Zune. She's been having serious problems with it lately. It likes to freeze up and random intervals. Unfortunatly it froze while she was syncing and somehow erased everything on it. She had to download a program called "Unzoone" to actually remove the zune software from my computer, as you can't uninstall it for some reason.

Then she had to reformat her zune, wiping out all her settings and saved info after all that, it still freezes up when syncing. So she can only manual sync song to it, and only 1 album at a time or it freezes and she has to start over.

I'm sick of dealing with this shit myself. Somewhere in the process of her working on it, she contracted a virus of sorts. A boot scan followed by some manual removal instruction supplied to me from some forum buddies got rid of it, but it's a pain in the ass caused by some shit I don't even use.

They really need to do something about making those things so delicate. I never thought I'd say this about an iPod in relation to anything, but iPod > Zune.

For the record, Zune software is by FAR the worst music software I've ever used. My 30 zune is great, a nice tank, but the software sucks sooooo much. Why couldn't microshaft just use WMP? I really like iTunes, since it will view and even resort your physical music location (as in rename and organize files for you if you want). It allows specialized sort options that I've rarely ever seen other places.

Bitch about proprietary formats all you want, but for the legit half of the world (lol, not me at all), iTunes is the best and safest. You just need to remember to back up your music to a hard drive or dvd or something. You can also transfer all of your legally purchased music back to your pc from an authorized iPod, so reformatting isn't that big of an issue since other than your itunes purchased music, you're only "supposed to" have music that you can reimport from CD or get from the original source.

Creative+Amarok = fast as shit loadtimes, perfectly legit, and hasn't failed me yet

It's all personal preference really. I use my Zune ALOT. I am always on the go. I use it not only for a MP3 player but also a digital photo wallet. I Fly alot so I have entire movies burned to it as well so I can watch it on the plane.

Back when I was looking at an MP3 player, the feature that bumped the Zune up to the top of the pack for me was the built in FM tuner. I know this seems like a stupid/useless feature for a lot of you, but not for me. The gym I go to has TVs going everywhere, but the only way to listen to it is through an FM tuner. So now I can listen to the news or ESPN as I work out.

Another useless plug for my Creative player that has the FM tuner too. I use it in the exact same manner as you do, at the gym while on the treadmill lol.

Is it just me or is it strange that Apple hasn't added an FM tuner to the iPods yet? I rarely used that feature of my zune, but it was always there.

I like the shear versatility of the iTouch, without having to be on AT&T service for cell phone. There are thousands of applications that, while not earth shattering, make things more convenient. Also, with having the largest screen of the more portable players (fuck you archos, you don't fit in my pockets), it makes video much nicer to watch. If they find a way to give it some significant storage, other companies will have to get off their asses design-wise.
