Alright, so I've gone through what 5 360's now? (sending back to have them repaired etc). Sure I get upset when it happens and I growl to myself about the crappy system but I continue to play on 360. Yes, that my choice and honestly because thats the system I learned to play a number of games on (including FFXI) and like the games for it. (Halo.. etc)

Well the last few months they have promoted this "Wonderfully new Dashboard update!" So you can make an avatar (basically same idea as a Wii Mi) to interact with friends and the like. Great idea microsoft! But would it be too much to ask for the damn thing to work? I've had a bad feeling about it, and sure enough, this morning I log in, have to reinstall PoL. Ok fine. PoL is easy enough to install. Well then I keep getting errors trying to connect to FFXI. Contacted both SE and Microsoft about it, and basically after deleting history on my xbox and a few other little fixes, they throw their hands in the air and tell me to reinstall the entire content and that 'may' fix the problem.

Ya know, for having this silly thing planned for many, many months you'd think they'd actually plan it out! Apparently this doesn't effect all 360 users either, only some of us. So they really have no clue what is wrong and their plan to fix it is "just reinstall it might fix it" well I'm not thrilled about a 7+ download for something that 'might' work.

Way to go again Microsoft! :Bullshit:

I've been reading about the buggyness of the new dashboard on several other boards I frequent...

Should I be afraid to turn my 360 on with the ethernet cord plugged in? ._.

And it sounds like you have the worst luck with your 360 Kairi, I'm still on my first.

Ugh, I hope that doesn't happen to me >.> I downloaded the stupid new update (not overly impressed, BTW, it's a total rip from the Wii), and nothing worked on it. I was trying to download a game demo and kept getting an error message. Tried like 5 times... nothing works on it. Haven't tried to run FFXI yet, but I'm crossing my fingers that it works like it should and I don't have to re-install.
Good luck getting yours up and running ^^

I'm glad i've been consistently lucky when it comes to my 360's. I've never even had a disc read error, much less a RRoD.

Hate to hear this Kairi. I myself have been fine with my 360s but this did also happen to an ls member, although for him he had to just reinstall POL. I hope you manage to fix it and I'll see you in game. Hun :P

Shit.. I guess I'll find out what disaster awaits me when I get home ; ; I'm really discouraged

Thats very unlucky, i have 2 xbox 360's and one of them is from launch and i havent had an issue with them at all.
As for the FFXI thing, sounds like the server is taking a heavy hit as expected with all this new content and update, that could be the reason.
only issue ive had with the new dash so far is it keeps freezing on the friends thing that shows everyones avatar

Just sent my in yesterday.... it will be my 3rd

At least NXE didn't get you the RRoD. >_>;; And Microsoft wants to fucking charge me for them breaking it. Good times...

My update worked perfectly with POL and FFXI. Thanks Microsoft! Great update.

Maybe you ment this post to be in the "Dashboard Update" thread where it would actually make sense, but grats on your Great update!

As for anyone else who has this problem, after 5 hours on Microsoft support, basically they sum it up as "Yup, our update broke games, (more than just FFXI) and we don't have a clue how. Check back in a couple days"

I just got a new disc and downloaded it on another box and it works fine. (wish I would have leaned saved my macros server side, but live and learn!) So we'll see if they come out with a patch or if they just ask you to reinstall and hope it works. Either way, someone dropped the ball big time!

Apparently, a lot of people are having a freezing issue when you look at your friends list in the new update. I've experienced it twice, seems to happen when you go to check their info further. Otherwise the update has been fine, I do miss the old style, but this new one should be fine once I learn how to navigate it better.

And I've been RRoD before also, thanks to the Lego Indiana Jones demo. The repair time was excellent though, had it within 8 days of shipping it out, faster than I had assumed.

Hope you have better luck then me I've tried everything and am still unable to reinstall .

Same deal with mine and the wife's. I'm on my 7th XBOX now, and I can "just" about handle the "DISC READ ERROR" or "OPEN TRAY" messages I get when my new xbox dies. But the bullshit we're enduring now with the update they made is just bullshit. I had to reinstall PoL, which worked once, then the next time I put the disc in, I had to reinstall PoL again.

I can't really bitch though, the wife's XBOX just died, it's 2 months old, and she's getting the same old message for brand new discs too. She also had the issue about reinstalling PoL, but even after doing this, the message "Version Update failed.", and had to Uninstall and Install PoL from scratch, which took about 5 hours.

When this xbox dies, and I know it will, there will be no 8th for me. I'll be done with this bullshit. If Microsoft would actuallly repair our xbox's for free each time they broke, I would have no issue with doing that, such is my addiction to FFXI. However, my 5th XBOX broke after 9 months. I got it repaired for free etc because it was still under warranty. 4 months later, the "repaired" version also broke. However, because this was out of the initial 1 year warranty period, I was told to pay £60 for the repair (no idea what that is in $ atm), even though they repaired the piece of shit 4 months previously.

I'm shocked and stunned that people have 360's that haven't broken down yet, without doubt the biggest piece of shit I've ever invested in. orz

I take from your profile you are in Europe. There must be an issue in Europe with your retailers selling old model 360s for you to have a seventh failure. I would think its even a larger chance you are getting old models if you ordered it online... The failure on the new 360s sold in stores is very very low in the US, like a normal harware products expected failure rate.

Then again i am in Connecticut and i am sure our service here is slightly more upscale then say somewhere in southern US. I dont know where the old 360s get sold here in the US, but for sure not where i am.

Shit Bigbroon, I'm really sorry to hear of all the dicking around you two have been through. There is seriously nothing worse than to feel you've been throwing your money away at corps that have more than enough than to provide good CS for their products.

I am luckily only on #2 (touch wood), I felt not to long ago it may have been on it's way out but so far so good. Hopefully it continues to work properly as I take good care of all my possessions. Wouldn't want to have to get nasty with them again.

IF FFXI is the only reason you have a 360, then just get a cheap PC, it'll run FFXI better than a console would. Can even plug in an Xbox controller if you're used to it. You can play FFXI on a BC compatible PS3 as well though it doesn't look as good as off a decent PC. I can't compare it to 360 as I never seen FFXI on that.

After so many failures, I know myself I'd be ready to just pack it on in. For one, when your box is replaced, the replacement box should get a new warranty. I assume that's how it works in the U.S., but I've thankfully not had to deal with that yet. For another, they've obviously in your area not updated to a more modern incarnation of the console. If that's the case, they've not only kept your bad consoles in stock, but have probably shipped America's bad consoles over, because they didn't want to pawn them off on their primary market. If you're absolutely in love with the games and don't think you can get a similar experience elsewhere, wait til they're all out of the pipe and get a new one. Otherwise just move on, I doubt anyone here would seriously question you after so many system fails.

lol, can I join the bandwagon? 360 #4 is on the way home as I write this! I think I got pretty much every problem there is so far. GPU failure, RRoD and the last one, an increasing rate of unreadable disc error through the last months (yeah, I had to redo 9 times the 3 big water monster in Lost Odyssey due to multiple read error. For frack sake 9 times!) until the drive finally died on me 1 week ago. Of course it was out of warranty... I'm so tired of this bullshit, hell, my old nintendo still works fine and I don't even have to blow in cartridges!

Microsoft: You have better chances soloing AV than having a working 360.

Not going to argue but when i played FFXI, which was a long ass ride... I enjoyed using the 360 more then my PC.

My reason was the live connection, let me explain Fire.

When i play on pc, FFXI is running off my routers connectiong to my pc and fluctuates in terms of connection quality. Some is lag and some is just connection peaks.

When i play on Live... There is a set amount of banwith live takes up period. If you are playing GeoW2(which you would think requires alot of banwith due to visuals) or UNO(which i would think takes very little banwith) Live takes the same amount of banwith to run both games. This created for me, a better medium connection while i played FFXI. Sure it lagged at times like any connection would, i am just saying the overall experience connection wise is better on live.

Also these experiences are on my cable connection.

Well not going to debate your personal experience, just going to point out that all the character models are stored on your disc, so they aren't going to affect your connection speed. The reason that online graphics often suffer compared to the campaign mode is because a lot more is going on at once and your machine has to be aware of all of it at once. So it taxes your processor and graphics card not your connection.
